And very special ingredients.
I actually got this for myself, not my kids, to find healthy recipes for my own dietary needs. However, I'd rather do without my old favorites than try to track down quirky ingredients that are not readily available in my grocery store or take up room in my cupboards when the rest of my family doesn't need to restrict their diet.

The first chapter of this book (33 pages) is the best description of diets used for autism, ADHD, allergies and celiac disease and the reasons behind the need for the various diets. If you are not sure which diet to start or even why you need to start a special diet, this is a great place to start. It will convince you that diets can and do make a difference for kids, but also give you enough information to decide which is the best diet for your child. The rest of the book has chapters on vitamins and further testing, with the largest part of the book reserved for recipes. Most of these are GFCF which is the main diet that the book supports and if you decide to do another diet, you would need another cookbook. But the book is definitely worth taking a look at for the opening chapter.

Published in 1998, I felt like some of the info needed to be updated. But overall, good at explaining in laymen's terms how some kids develop sensitivities to certain foods in their diet and how what they eat affects the child's development (additives, food coloring, preservatives). I would recommend this book if considering putting your child on a gluten free, casein free diet. Lots of really interesting research and statistics. But would like to see a 2010 version because there are far more food options for gf cf individuals and also newer research available.

i heard a lot of great things about this book, but it was sort of ho-hum to me. a lot of the recipes looked like things collin wouldn't eat, so i didn't really pursue it much further than skimming the recipe section.

Without a doubt, the best resource for learning about food allergies and food intolerance - and the difference between the two! Parents of children on Special Diets will find this book to be an invaluable resource that they will refer to again and again.

This books was great. The first book was much better at explaining the biological and technical issues of special diets. If I had to choose between the two, I would chose the first. However, this book is still fantastic for parents of kiddos with food in tolerances and allergies.

A good starter book with a mom's story of her journey through Autism and the importance of diet, specifically the GFCF diet. It also includes recipes.

Must buy. There is far too much useful information and many recipes to try to just copy them all down. I might as well buy the book.

Created especially for children with special needs, this cookbook is a marvel. It contains a variety of recipes with few ingredients and very easy to follow instructions. The collection goes from breakfast ideas & homemade milk to holiday main dishes.

I am reviewing this book for Lisa Lewis, Future Horizons, and NetGalley who gave me a copy of their book for an honest review.
A good book with numerous recipes which can be used with children who have to follow special diets. Easy to follow and very child-friendly.
