“I raise my chin as the buyers stare. Yes. Look. You don’t want me. Because, eventually, accidentally, I will destroy you.”

In a world at war, a slave girl’s lethal curse could become one kingdom’s weapon of salvation. If the curse—and the girl—can be controlled.

As a slave in the war-weary kingdom of Faelen, seventeen-year-old Nym isn’t merely devoid of rights, her Elementa

First of all, when I requested this book, I didn't realize that it was published by Thomas Nelson, which is a Christian imprint of HarperCollins. If I had known, I probably wouldn't have requested the book, b/c I don't like being preached at when I'm reading recreationally, BUT . . . I am happy to report that it wasn't an issue. SO if you thought you might like this book, but held off, b/c, unlike me, you were in the know about Thomas Nelson, worry not.

Alright then, let me explain you why this book didn’t capture my heart.

First off, I can’t go on without saying that I had a feeling about this book. Somehow, I felt like I wouldn’t enjoy it, and yes I admit that the cover had to do with it. At first glance, I didn’t like the cover at all but, then, the more I looked at it, the more I got curi

2.5 stars. Ok so this isn't bad by any means, but I think I've just seen the general idea done so many other times in stories I like more that there wasn't much here that stood out. It felt like Shadow & Bone, Roar, and a ton of other YA fantasy books.

The basic idea: Nym's spent most of her life being bought + sold as a slave. Female Elementals aren't supposed to exist... but Nym does and her white hair marks her as one. Her new owner tells her she has the special power to become the kingdo

So good!!! Shame on me for taking this long to read it! Gorgeous writing, enthralling story, tense romance. And as an extra added bonus the author is super sweet.
Definitely recommend.

I liked the idea but the book wasn't for me.

I don't understand how you can have all of these powers but allow yourself be a slave. But that's what turned me off this particular book from the beginning. I just didn't understand Nym.

I'm hoping their are plenty of others that love the book though :)

The trouble I went through to read this book... wow was it not worth it.

Story time in which a bookworm goes to the library to return two books she had borrowed before she left for Christmas break. She went there with the intention of not borrowing anymore books, because she was leaving in two days and she totally didn't have the time to read another book and return it immediately. I had never heard of this book before requesting the sequel, Siren's Fury, on Netgalley. I didn't realize it was a sequel until after I had gotten approved, so I had to go out and get myself a copy of this. Now I'm wondering why this book hasn't received more attention. I really enjoyed the world building here; it was fun learning about the different kingdoms and politics going on. The Uathúil were an interesting concept, as was seeing how the different kingdoms accepted them. I would like to kn ...more

Different. I enjoyed the premise and the mc's, but I feel like a lot of things bogged down the story. I'm also unsure why the female mc is said to be so powerful, yet everyone beats on her. She should be kicking ass and taking names with her powers. I did enjoy the multiple villains, never lacking for one. The ending was kind of self evident, which I don't like. Nor am I happy with the cliff hanger ending. Must everything have a cliff hanger?

Also, wasn't aware this was YA, which explains the...

When I finished Storm Siren, I was speechless. If I am correct about what the ending implies, I just could not believe the story had the audacity and boldness to say, “Oh YES indeedy, I am going to go there!” And honestly, it’s refreshing whenever a Young Adult novel surprises me. *An ARC was provided by Thomas Nelson in exchange for an honest review.*

Storm Siren was one of those books that I knew I needed even before it came out. I am a HUGE fan of elementals and elemental magic so that bit was a no-brainer. The synopsis seemed original to boot with an elemental female who shouldn't exist being saved from a life of slavery and trained as a weapon to save kingdoms. Despite all this promise though, Storm Siren ended up falling flat by focussing on a questionable 'romance'

Failed in so many ways. I can list so many ways it went wrong for me and can't really remember any good points. I will not be continuing to read this author's work.
#1 problem was the narrator, she was monotone, unemotional and ruined any POW the book may have had.
#2 The heroine was a whiner, she went on and on about her leg, her lag was the most important thing happening while the bodies fell around her

I've sat on writing this review because of how I felt. I kept thinking that maybe I would change my mind but I haven't. If this book had been published by a secular publishing company and had it not been labeled as YA. I honestly wouldn't have rated as a one star. I'd probably have given it a three and that's largely because the author had this annoying issue with "counting." I counted, one, two, three, a gazillion times that she felt the need to count in the mann

I had been anxiously looking forward to reading Storm Siren ever since I first set eyes on the cover. Just look at it. Isn’t it one of the most gorgeous covers you’ve ever seen? I suppose I’m a bit biased considering my obsession with the color blue. But anyway, the book itself did not disappoint. Mary Weber created a fascinating world that was very different from other fantasy books I’ve read (and I’ve read quite a few since it’s my favorite genre). The society almost felt like The Hunger Games ...more

There was no way after seeing all of the glowing reviews for this going around the blogsphere that I was going to say no to it. Add in the fact that this wasn't a mermaid or siren story (something I sadly have a love hate relationship with) and I was completely sold on starting this. I just knew it was going to be more than a pretty cover. After all, how could all those 4 and 5 star reviews be wrong?

Thankfully they weren't wrong, at least not completely. . This was so much fun and I ser

For those of you who liked my previous 5 star review, I changed it because I read The Crown. I realized how much better that book was than this book. Then I changed this to 4 stars. I still loved this book! I just rated this 5 stars because I had wanted SO BADLY to love it. But, it wasn't to be.

only for the reason that I was really confused at times! Other then that, LOVED! The writing gave me chills it was so good.

Storm Siren is one of those books that completely flew under my radar until I came across it on NetGalley. As soon as I read the summary, I knew that this was going to be the perfect book for me. Mary Weber, however, exceeded all of my expectations with Storm Siren and it was hard for me to believe that this was only her debut novel.

Storm Siren's strength lies in its protagonist, Nym. Initially, she was presented as this headstrong, snarky and witty girl who seemed like she was afraid of ab

It took me forever to figure out how to rate this :P I'd say 3.5 stars. I loved the theme, but I didn't like how it was shown + some "other" scenes, and the ending kinda ripped my heart apart because I would have loved for Nym to find healing. SO, I'll have a better, more coherent review here soon XD

Oh my... oh dear... *gasping for breath* *grasping for reality*... WHEN IS SIREN'S FURY COMING OUT??? :D

I hardly know what to think of the whole story yet, but my mind is whirling with the epic-ness of it.

Alright. Let's try for some orderly thoughts here...

Storm Siren was raw. Gripping. Emotional. Powerful.

The more I ruminate over Storm Siren the less I find to enjoy about it. I found Weber's debut to be remarkable when I originally read it, mainly because I had read the novel in a single sitting and the adrenaline rush that comes from finishing an action-packed book is difficult to beat. It makes it hard to think and upon finishing Storm Siren I was concerned for the future of the series but, still, very much in love with the characters and journey I'd found inside. Now, having p

From the first page I was hooked on Storm Siren, and I loved it all the way until the end when I reached one of the worst cliffhangers ever. At the center of this book is one broken but powerful girl. But as I became caught up in Nym's personal journey and emotions, I found many more surprises and a lot greater action t

Somebody help me. I knew that there was going to be a cliffhanger ending, but I was still not prepared. Not at all prepared for that shocking and horrifyingly thrilling ending.

Nymia is a seventeen year slave surviving in a country ridden by war. She is an Elemental, which means she shouldn’t even exist for Elementals are always born male and slaughtered. She is sold the fifteenth time to a High Council member who is the king’s most trusted advisor. She gives Nym a choice: train to be used as a w
