George’s life is highly organised, right down to his meticulous financial arrangements for his retirement. Everything is thrown into disarray when he loses his job as an accountant, and his search for gainful employment leads to humiliation and self-doubt. Will he find his true calling as a telephone psychic?

I thoroughly enjoyed getting to know George, a pernickety, materialistic, highly rational middle-aged man. Some readers might find the initial set-up a little slow, but stick with it, becaus

Even though he was single and his son was pushing him to find a mate, George was happy with his roadster (Miss Betty), his pruning, his amazing wine cellar. Whenever he was in doubt, all he had to do pull out his Japanese proverb book and pick out a relevant philosophical saying and that would help smooth the situation.
When he’s fired from a high-paying soulless job, and can’t get another position at all, he fails at being the person that he thinks he should be (smart, careful, controlled, focu

This book was so hard to put down. It is beautifully written, humorous, educating, fascinating. All those things. Mr Psychic had me amused from the start and the way the main character developed was extraordinary. Dermot writes with such confidence, he obviously knows much about the subjects surrounding the story or his research was impeccable. I thoroughly recommend this book, like me, you might find it a refreshing change from the usual books you read.

Someone, quick, sue the author, Dermot Davis, who's a huckster for setting expectations low at the beginning, then whams you at the end! My reaction to this book is similar to the first book I read, Brain: The Man Who Wrote the Book That Changed the World. At first, I wasn't thrilled, then I loved it by the end.

The best part of the story is how the main character, George, changes when he leaves his new "profession" and then confronts his family. It actually brought tears to my eyes. I would hav

George’s best-laid plans come crashing down when he loses his accounting job and is unable to find work. So what’s a straight-laced accountant to do? He dons a disguise and takes a job as a telephone psychic! George doesn’t know it at first, but he’s found his calling and his phone personality, Mr. Psychic, soon becomes wildly popular. As Mr. Psychic transforms the lives of others, he discovers he has transformed himself as well -- into a kinder, more loving, happier human being. Along the way, ...more

Light reading content with deep, thought-provoding truths! A wonderful read. Sometimes the perfect, successful life we've created for ourselves is not really all it's cracked up to be. Many times we've become who we are out of fear. This is a story about just such a man. Luckily, unfortunate circumstances force him to assess his life in ways he never imagined. This story is so apropos for what's going on in my life now. Hopefully, I can find a happy-ending, just like Mr. Physchic!

Love the way this book was written! The plot is a bit slow moving but was truly right for this book.

George II is an...interesting fellow. Can't say too much without giving it away but I found this story unexpectedly whimsical.

Loved this book! It's a great story on many levels. From finding one's self to learning how to love for the first time. Money does not guarantee happiness, once George understands this then he was able to grow.

A little boring at first but after the first few chapters it is good.

Abrupt changes in the story make it difficult to follow. As charming as it might be, it seemed to plod along at times.
