Recommends it for: any beer lover, birthday gift, mother's day gift, father's day gift
The world of beer has always been one of sophistication. Just ask any serious beer drinker. I grew up surrounded by relatives who loved beer. German and Irish beers were at every family get together. I, myself, am allergic to hops so I cannot imbibe.

I saw this book and instantly started reading it. Let me tell you, I was not disappointed. I love the colorful photographs and graphics along with the informative text. I learned all about the history of beer and when to drink what kind of beer. My f

This book was exactly what I thought it would be. Mosher gives a good overview of all things beer as well as the best seasons for beer and what best to pair it with. I took notes, so hopefully I can put them to use one day!

Read Tasting Beer instead. This is basically a smaller version of it.

Missed some festivals. Oasaka Oktoberfest in March (at least the year I was there).
Erbfest in Erding, September.

A colorful, fun book about different kinds of beers. This is more of a beginner's book with suggestions for what to drink and when. It's divided into sections, beginning with Beer, History, and Agriculture, a short history of beer and why we drink differently during different seasons. Next is Getting the Most from Your Year of Beer, which talks about the different ingredients and how to taste them (malt, hops, fermentation and flavor), and different styles of beer around the world. The next four ...more

I really can't get enough of this book. It makes a great reference guide and present for beer-drinkers (beginning/expert drinkers!). It breaks down beers so simply at times according to the season and while I'll try any beer, any season, it's fantastic to be able to get great recommendations.

It's very difficult for me to retain details of beer (ingredients, the process, etc) and that's one of the reasons why I really enjoyed this book (and continue to enjoy). History, tasting expertise, five se

A fairly entertaining book with descriptions of the various styles of beer that are appropriate to drink by season. It also includes lists of festivals and other beer events by month. Mosher's weakest work that I've read so far.

A light, easy-to-read book. I would have preferred a little more substance, but it was fun enough. Feels like an extended magazine article.

Entertaining enough, but tons of repeated information. It seemed like large chunks of the book came directly from the much better Tasting Beer book.
