Would you like an empathetic psychologist to systematically and comprehensively tell you how the best dream interpreters interpret dreams? Are you interested in the meaning behind dreams? Have you ever had a dream and wondered what it meant? If you answered yes, then this book is for you. Dr. Steven Fox will give you a look into what dreams really mean. Enter the mind of an experienced psychologist as he tells you the vital processes used to interpret a dream.

How do you use dreams to guide your life? There are patterns of thought fixed in the subconscious called archetypes that contain vast stores of energy. To make use of this energy, the dreamer must be aware of the pervasive archetype in a given situation. If the person ties into that energy, they enter a world of flow with a seemingly endless supply of energy. The Shadow archetype is one that the dreamer often faces because it is a major source of change. Avoiding fighting the energy and tying into your major power makes the path ahead more certain and uses your vigor and passion.

After years of work as a private-practice clinical psychologist, Dr. Steven G. Fox has compiled a list of the 40 most essential keys/rules that build a conceptual framework for an understandable and accessible method of interpreting dreams. The author uses several full dream examples to show how each rule is used to interpret dreams, using anonymous client dreams. Therapists will appreciate this handy reference while the interested layman can also easily grasp the dream interpretation methods which are described in everyday language. The general tone of the book is relaxed yet professional. The casual reader won't feel intimidated, but the professional won't be insulted by a simplistic approach.
Dr. Fox gives each essential key/rule/theme its own chapter, with a brief explanation of its meaning and then provides several sample dreams from real (but anonymous) clients, along with detailed interpretations of the situations their dreams address.
This approach gives the reader an understandable and useful starting point for clarifying dreams. Those seeking an easily accessible and logically explained procedures for harvesting the deeper meaning of a dream will find what they have been looking for in this book. Following the interpretation chapters, Dr. Fox provides a bibliography and reference list for those interested in further reading, as well as a short glossary of some select terms used throughout the work.

About the Author
Dr. Fox, a private-practice licensed psychologist with over 25 years experience, says, "Having this book at the beginning of my practice would have reduced the amount of time it took me to get to where I am now by at least ten years."

“Dreams” captures the meaning dreams and their uniqueness, like snowflakes no two are alike. “Dreams” identifies the dreamers’ environment, cultural background, and lifestyle as reasons why the subconscious weaves a story in the shadowy recesses of their minds.

Steven Fox did extensive research on the subject, and has over 20 years experience in helping his clients find the meaning of their dreams. The author loads the book with examples characterized by type, description, and interpretation all for readers to understand his clients’ dreams. “Dreamers” creates an open window for you to do all you can to make your dreams come true too, literally and metaphorically.

While reading “Dreams,” I recalled a recent and a past dream to see if any of the interpretations in the book applied to me. One came close, ‘Dream 26B: The Change Will Do You Good.’ More important, the book was an opportunity for me to take a second look at these, and I’m glad I did! The timing between my recent dream and reading the book was perfect. I understood my problem and what triggered it. I even had time to reflect on what to do differently, should a similar problem occur.

My impression of “Dreams” is that the book encourages readers to explore their own dreams to make their lives better. I recommend this read to everyone whether or not you remember your dreams because we all do it. And if you’re anything like me, you’ll get excited about this guidebook and immediately start looking forward to interpreting all your dreams!

Dream Merchant. Sounds Interesting, Right?
Well you can be your own dream merchant. Only if you can understand the language of dreams. Who better can teach you the world of dreams and their way of happening than an experienced well to do psychologist?
Dr. Steven G. Fox, gives an insightful account of dreams and how can you understand them and direct the understanding towards self-healing, important decisions and positive recanalization of any negative aspects associated with the dream.
Dreams are a true guide to the soul as the author himself states in his book. Dreams are but a portrayal of the inner desires of the human heart. Dreams always result out from what’s already present in the human subconscious and with a better understanding of the subconscious we can achieve great lengths in life. We can be our own Dream Merchant. An interesting and fascinating book which gives you the right approach to being your own dream merchant.

Unhelpful

Having read other reviews of "Dreams: Guide To The Soul" I was looking forward to gaining insights about the hidden meanings behind my own dreams. I was rather disappointed in this book. None of the dreams Dr. Fox presented in his book came close to resembling the content of my own dreams, so these examples were pretty much irrelevant to me. Many Jungian dream archetypes were described and interpreted in this book, which were mildly interesting, but these archetypes almost never appear in my dreams. I guess I must have a very boring psyche, because I mainly have dreams about mundane situations like trying to drive a car that has no engine, walking around an unfamiliar city and getting lost, riding on a bus while not wearing pants, taking a final exam I didn't study for, etc. I'd rather learn more about how to interpret those types of images instead of lurid images of snakes, tigers, fire and water, or the father/mother action/emotion Jungian archetypes Dr. Fox highlighted.

I'd summarize "Dreams: Guide To The Soul" as mildly interesting but not particularly relevant or helpful.

I found this book while searching for a dream interpretation guide. This one offers compelling and practical advice for understanding your dreams. The author states that our subconscious creates dreams to motivate, inspire, guide, or warn us--complete with age-old metaphors and archetypes--and condenses all the information into a brain infomercial. By explaining the purpose and significance of archetypes like the Heroic Masculine and the Trickster figure, Dr. Fox gives us the tools to understand our dreams.

As an educator who teaches literary analysis, I understand the significance and power of metaphor and archetype in literature and in life. Applying the same concepts to dreams makes perfect sense. For example, I have many dreams where I am in a house--the author explains how to interpret the house metaphor! The Divine Child, a part of our "psyche that holds our hopes and dreams," is another archetype I found truly intriguing.

Don't expect to zip through this book for answers to your latest dream though. There's a plethora of examples, ideas, and concepts to chew on. I find myself rereading the examples and explanations, and then pausing to reflect on my own Big Dreams. This is a resource I will refer to again and again.
Pharaoh had Joseph to interpret his dreams--- I'll be using Dreams: Guide to the Soul--40 Keys to Healing, Renewal, and Power.
