Billy and the Monster Who Ate All the Easter Eggs is a lovely picture book with an underlying message about moderation. When Billy and Monster visit Grandma Chocalicious for Easter, they stumble upon a giant pyramid of chocolate Easter eggs that she created for Easter Sunday. When Billy and Monster wake up after midnight, they decide that since it is technically Easter they can have one of those tempting eggs, then another, then another, and so on until they are stuffed full of chocolate.
Needless to say, the next day Grandma is upset that the duo have made a mess and ruined the chocolate egg pyramid, but that is the least of Billy and Monster’s concern; because they both have a horrible tummy ache. Billy’s father patiently explains that when it comes to eating chocolate (and many other things), moderation is very important. I like how the author goes beyond just having Billy and Monster learn a lesson about moderation, by having them model the appropriate behaviour when they are offered more chocolate during the Easter celebration (i.e., stopping after one chocolate). To further drive the point home, Billy repeats to himself the lesson that he learned, thus making the underlying message of the book crystal clear.
The illustrations are all computer generated. I think kids will find them bright and colorful and will enjoy them. Billy and the Monster are quite adorable in the way they are depicted. I do have to say that although I understand that the “fart thing” runs through all of the Billy and the Monster books, the one page mentioning farts really felt out of place in the story. I could have done without that page. That being said, my son howled with laughter at that part, so no doubt kids will find it hilarious.
My Bottom Line:
Billy and the Monster Who Ate All the Easter Eggs is a lovely picture book featuring a duo of a young boy and his pet monster who gobble up a whole lot of chocolate Easter eggs and learn an important lesson about moderation when they wake up the next day with a terrible tummy ache. This would make a great read around Easter time for all those children who are waiting oh-so-patiently to dive into their Easter treats and I recommend this picture book for children ages 3 and older.
* I received this book free-of-charge by the author in exchange for my honest opinion. All opinions expressed are my own.
This was another wonderful book by David Chuka. In this book Billy and his best friend the monster talk about all of the holidays they like. Their favorite holiday is Easter. Their dad comes in to tell them they are visiting their Grandma Chocolicious. His grandma loves everything chocolate. She makes chocolate donuts and other goodies for them. In the middle of her kitchen is a pyramid of chocolate Easter Eggs. They are told they can’t have any until Easter Sunday. They go to bed and dream and think about the eggs. Shortly after midnight they sneak down to the kitchen and begin eating the eggs. They leave a mess and go back to bed. The next day they hear shouting and remember the mess they had made. They learn a lesson in “moderation”. I loved reading this with my granddaughter. She read most of it to me. I loved being able to teach her a new word, “moderation”. It was more fun listening to her use the word all day long. When her brother grabbed too many animal crackers she took some back and said, “No Jacob, we need to eat them in moderation. That means not too often or too much.” Her brother grabbed them back from her. She shrugged and told me, “I guess he doesn’t understand the word moderation”. I love books that my grandkids like and that teach lessons that are not to big. They are taught in a way that a first grader gets it. This is the fourth book by this author and will definitely not be the last. I love his books and will recommend them to everyone I know with younger children.
Billy and the Monster Who Ate All the Easter Eggs. David Chuka has a team of lovely children's books published and this one is a delightful addition.
Beautifully written, the message is clear and simple as a funny educational tool which children can all relate to. It brought a distant childhood memory and some chuckles.
I remember waking up one Easter morning back in the late 1940's (doesn't that date me?!) and sneaking to the wardrobe in my parents room where I managed to locate and extricate the chocolate Easter eggs meant for later that day. Of course, the sugar icing ones I didn't dare touch, because the "eggs" inside them would rattle and give me away!
I ate a whole egg-and it was a large one-complete with marshmallow white and candied yolk. I was sick for the rest of the day, unable to join in the games or treats which had been arranged for a kids party Mother put on as a surprise.
A lovely story and highly recommended-and I'll bet there's plenty of adult readers who can relate to it as well as I can!
This was another cute story from David Chuka, featuring Billy and his monster. As usual, both Billy and his monster released "ginormous" farts, but only one time in this book. Mainly, this story teaches Billy (and his monster) about moderation. When he and his monster snuck downstairs and ate all of Grandma's chocolate easter eggs, they didn't feel very good afterwards. Plus, they both got into trouble, because Grandma had already told them the eggs weren't for them.
But Billy learned his lesson, and his dad and his Grandma both forgave him for his indiscretion. And I reckon they all lived happily ever after!
Seriously, this is a good book to help teach children not to overdo it with the candy on Halloween, Christmas, Easter, Valentine's Day, or any other holiday where candy, cake, cookies, and other goodies are available in abundance. After all, if the kids don't practice moderation, there may not be any left for the adults!
Billy and his friend Monster go to the house of Grandma Chocalicious for their favorite holiday, Easter. She warns them not to touch the chocolate Easter eggs until Easter Sunday. But 12:30am means it's now Easter, doesn't it? What will Billy and Monster get up to?
Billy and Monster learn about the importance of moderation. They also learn that there are both emotional and physical consequences to over-indulging. The fart monster strikes again! I think this is a series that young children, especially boys, will enjoy. And they will learn a valuable lesson at the same time. This book makes a great Easter gift for the children in your life. I suggest you share it with them before they eat all their Easter chocolate!
Chocolate?? The most scrumptious food in the world for Billy and Monster! They get to celebrate Easter at Grandma's home where the BEST chocolate can be enjoyed. Yum, Yum! But...what happens when one eats too much? It's true, one can just eat too much chocolate and have regrets! This is a great children's story with a good lesson of value to be learned. Get this book now so your children will really have an unforgettable story to share with their children when they grow up. Another great story by popular author, David Chuka. I always look forward to Billy and Monster adventures.
Billy and his Monster get into some more trouble, even when they are trying hard to be good. Grandma Chocalicious will not be happy when they eat the chocolate Easter Eggs! Even though they waited until Easter Morning (Sort of). Another Billy and Monster book with fun illustrations and even farts! Your early school age kid will find it hilarious!
Imaginative story of Billy and his Monster friend who love to celebrate holidays but love Easter most of all because of all the chocolate, their favorite thing. But chocolate at grandma's tempts them too much and they learn the value of moderation.
I chuckled as Billy and the Monster make a mess of the Easter chocolate. I shook my head as Billy decided he could get up early to clean the mess (like he is any different from the rest of us--ain't gonna happen!) An adorable story for your 3-5 year old.
