It’s really a testament to Hoch that these stories written in the 1950s read so fresh all these years later. He’s one of those writers with such a simple, pulpy style. The opening and closing stories were my favorites, particularly the latter. Looking forward to more Scooby Doo. I mean, Simon Ark.

The Simon Ark stories haven't aged as well as I'd like, the casual dismissal of female characters is a bit grating and his constant harping on the Devil this and Devil that is a bit tiresome. I get that this is the character but when one woman says "This guy looks familiar" and your answer is "the Devil always looks familiar, he was in *laundry list of historical villian's names*" you might be a tad tooooooo one dimensional.

The Hour of None was a creepy little murder case of mistaken identity.

Scooby Doo for adults. 5 Crime mysteries that at first glance appear to involve the supernatural and of course doesn't. Hard for me to tell how good/bad this book is since I hate crime mysteries with a passion. Seems fairly well written, and I guess that those who enjoy crime mysteries will enjoy this book too. ...more

More Simon Ark adventures.

A few more adventures with mysterious Simon Ark. Is he really 1500 years old, and still hunting the Devil? Read these stories, written by a master storyteller to find out.

Recommended for anyone who likes a Wells crafted mystery.
