Girls ages 4 to 6 will love learning to read on their own with this Step 2 Step into Reading leveled reader based on Barbie's latest film, releasing in fall 2014.
this is the single most mesmerising and beautifully written book i have read and will probably ever read in my whole entire life. i can proudly say my world was rocked. the incredible mind of this author
My daughter picked this book from the library. First, I think the ratings on these books are off. She's going in 2nd grade and could read it okay, but the book is rated for Preschool to First grade - I do not think a preschooler could master this book... one main reason is that a large part of the story are the characters odd names. And there were some complex words on top of it.
I thought the story was pretty lame. I guess if you are a shy princess that would rather read than dance, you just need to find a secret door, use your magic wand to defeat evil, you will be rewarded with a beautiful gown and will want to dance, just like your mother wanted you too.
Less offensive and irritating than I've come to expect from Barbie books. Mini-Me was a little sad that Barbie wasn't in the story as herself, but for me that was part of the appeal. ;) I also particularly liked the female archers that appeared in the background in places. They weren't main characters, they were just there - a nice subtle addition to the "we girls can do anything" message.
I feel like we never really get to know any of the supporting characters. For example, when Nola the fairy's magic is stolen, it's difficult to comprehend the tragedy of the situation, as this is the first mention we have had of Nola, and we never see her again.
