I randomly saw this book pop up in my newsfeed on Facebook and I downloaded it because the book blurb looked interesting. What an outstanding read! I stayed up until 2:00 am finishing it. Couldn't put it down.

To be honest, it's quite hard for me to decide whether I like this book or not. I think I have things I liked as much I didn't like.

When I requested it and while reading it, I thought it's a standalone, so I expected to get a whole full story. At some point, I can say it is a full story. There is a beginning, middle and ending that build Harp's story. However, I don't think the whole story build well. T

I am going to start with what I loved. I loved Harp Evans. Her teen years were not normal, and for someone with her issues she was pretty well rounded. Her mother was the hardest character to read. I won't giveaway any plot secrets, as there are a few little minor things and then the big bam
moment. Growing up in a home where there is sadness is bad enough, but Harp had lived with extreme hate. Her mother did things to abuse her physicaly and verbally. It was a very bold book in that way.

Cassie Shine is making her mark with her debut novel Harp's Song. It is both gripping and emotional. Harp's Song tackles some tough topics like abuse, neglect, and intimidation. Her storytelling is engaging and kept me turning page after page until the very end.

The relationship between Harp and her mother was really tough to read. There were just a few moments of direct interaction between them and they were filled with so much pain and fear. It was understandable that Harp avoided her mother an

Wow.
Warning: You won't be able to put this book down!

Harp's Song is a beautiful and strong book that everyone needs to read! Due to the subject matter I wasn't sure what to expect and how I would feel while reading this. My heart broke for Harp and what she had to go through, but I'm so happy she had Connor who is her saviour and her spark that keeps her going. I fell in love with Connor and the way his relationship with Harp grows and develops.

For once, this is a book that I had no expectations for. I was solely basing my expectations on the cover and the blurb. They both looked and sounded really good. Once I started reading I was sucked into Harp’s world, and even if I tried to get out I don’t think I could have left.

It was such a beautiful and easy read that it wasn't hard to keep reading. Harp has a lot of self-loathing problems because of her abusive mother. She was a

Harp's Song started out okay, but i lost interest.

I liked Harp in the beginning, but later on in the book she annoyed me.
I can understand why she acted out after hearing what her mother told her, but it annoyed me. Her character completely changed in those scenes, and i missed the old Harp.

What her mother went through was awful, but when she went from being hateful towards Harp, to being loving towards her, i

This is a very quick read. I had a hard time putting it down. While some of the story lines have been done before the author has written a really charming story with characters that draw you in. Harp has not has an easy life but she is looking forward to the future. I like that her best friend and the only person she opens up to is a guy. Things then progress from friendship to romance. The only issue I have with the story is how quickly Harp’s mother changes. The catalyst to wake her up makes s ...more

As I read Harp’s Song, I felt my loyalties careening toward the characters I didn’t like in the beginning of the book. Several of the books I’ve recently read have faulty adult characters that make me want to scream. In many of these books, the characters are parents who somehow fail their children. In this book, it’s hard not to despise Harp’s mother. But when I read what she had been through, it broke my heart for both of them. It also reminded me that it’s important not to judge someone when ...more

**I received this book as an ARC from Netgalley to read & review. This is a 100% honest review.**

Harp's Song is the story of Harper Evens, a shy, cello playing girl with a cute best friend and a damaged family. The book follows Harp as she discovers the heartbreak behind her mother's violent out bursts and how she handles falling in love with her best friend - along with the usual high school drama's.

I think one of the biggest surprises with Harp's Song for me was Harp herself. I struggle w

In the beginning it seems that the focus of the story will be on Harp and Connor and whatever is developing between them. We get a few glimpses on how they became friends and the importance of Conner in Harp's life, which hasn't been easy. Ever since she could remember her mom loathed her. Harp had to take care of herself since a very young age and she has made sure she can avoid her mom as often as possible. Whenever they are in the same room, her mom would just beat on her down verbally.

I'm going to keep this review short and none so sweet. I think that this is just a major case of not my cup of tea. The main character annoyed me, I didn't really like the love interest, some aspects of the story just made me uncomfortable and I just couldn't enjoy it. The story flip flopped around, much like the main character and there was just so much going on, too much I think. We already had the abusive mother but then you have to go and pretty much every guy the main character meet

Harp is a self-proclaimed recluse but what you find out during this novel is that although she might have reclusive tendencies she is honestly someone who doesn’t need that many friends because the ones she has are absolutely true to her. Harp has had an incredibly difficult life growing up. She was basically on her own from a small age and left to her own devices. Those devices that she thrived in were music. She plays the cel

Harp's Song blew me away, what a premise for book, Harp is the girl we see in the playground who kept to herself, never said much, she suffers at home in the hands of a mother who at her best is absent, and at her worse is physically and verbally abusive. Her one ray of light is her best friend Connor and his family. She has her life mapped out, if she can just get through high school she will leave town and never look back.
Connor is her childhood best friend, she entire support system and event

Harp and Conner are best friends. He is her rock and main support. His family loves her and considers to her to be a daughter. Harp’s mother on the other hand is verbally and physically abusive towards her. Despite the fact Harp is growing up to be a wonderful, responsible young lady full of love with plans to go away to c

I was given an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

This was a really fantastic read! I found Harp to be an incredibly endearing character, and I enjoyed seeing her relationship with Connor grow into something special. I empathized with Harp for the relationship she had with her mother. Overall this is definitely a book worth reading and I highly recommend. I'm really looking forward to the next in the series.

Harp's Song was a fast read. Once you start you have to keep reading. You want to know what happens.
The story is sad at times. And you will hate Harp's mother. Very emotional. Harp has her best friend who she shares things with. And over time they grow closer.
The characters were great. Their personalities were written perfectly to make them seem real and work together for a story line.
The plot was well written as well.
I look forward to book two after the short preview.

There's Harp who plays cello and keeps to herself. She doubts everybody and keeps walls built up. Her best friend is Conner who she grew up with and always goes to when her and her mom fight. I like him. He plays baseball and is a jock which is totally opposite of her. He's genuine and u can tell he cares for her. I liked both characters. The beginning just seemed to drag on for me. once it got going it was a good story. My normal reads r usually more steamy.

This book has a great feeling to it- right from the beginning the author established a great flow to how the story was told. I enjoyed the friendship between Connor and Harp. And I like how Harp got her name. I was shocked at the abrupt change in relationships- a little upset at some but I understood where they came from and that they would be okay.

Cassie Shine released her debut young adult novel, Harp's Song in November 2013, finally finishing the short story she started in her college creative writing class … many, many moons ago.
