There are some things that really annoy Vervain Lavine. Like when people call her Vivian; “Vervain's an herb, look it up.” Or when people don't get her movie quotes; “Why doesn't anyone appreciate culture anymore?” But what really bothers her, what gets her little witchy panties in a twist, is when gods manipulate humans. “They're not even really gods, just Atlanteans play ...more

First off, this book is free, in ebook edition, on Amazon permanently.
Godhunter has been a long process for me. I started it years ago, and I've grown along with the main character. I feel that my personal growth reflects in the books, and you can definitely see Vervain maturing through the series. At one point, I considered going back and redoing the first books, making them more refined and mature, but then I realized that this would destroy that beautiful progression. The Godhunter Series i

She's not a necromancer, but she is a godhunter. If you haven't heard of Anita Blake, she's a woman known to be extremely powerful with a harlem of beautiful, strong sexy men, and she strings more of them as she comes into her new powers.

Why am I fanning about another series on someone else's book? Cause it's a compliment, because Blake is amazing despite her bad reviews, and it's a sexy, fun and terrifying read. This book- maybe even this series -reads just like it.

For lovers of the genre this could very easily become a 5* book, one they would recommend to their friends. What’s stopping it? A proof read by someone who understands about punctuation for dialogue, and an editor who will see where it needs to be tightened up; my estimate would be it needs cutting by 50 pages.

Vervain is a fun character to spend some time with – she is sassy, witty and no shrinking violet, well able to hold her own against the baddies and stand proud as an equal of the good guys

To be honest, I’m conflicted about this book.

For one, I’m not sure if I’ve read it before, or that it’s just so similar to something I have read. Either way, it’s got a lot of things I like and things I don’t like.

I chose to read Godhunter for a few reasons. I kept seeing the cover pop up in a lot of genres I liked, Goodreads kept recommending it, and it was one of the few books I haven’t read on my favorite reverse-harem list. Boredom and the lure of a horde of hot guys was my mane d

I had to tap out at 11%. It was just immature AF, and this is from someone who reads YA regularly.

That aside, though, here were the reasons I tapped out.
1. The whole introduction to how Vervain became the Godhunter isn't explained terribly well. A dude tried to kill her on behalf of a god. She kills the dude and the god. Then, she decides to rifle through the god's stuff and thus, her new path is chosen. ...whuuu?

2. "A woman should look like a woman." (In re: the Vervain not being "ripped.") Wh
So basically it paid for deities to encourage their followers to fight instead of keeping them safe at home. Why settle for an occasional human sacrifice when you could get it on a mass scale constantly. Most of the gods didn't even have followers anymore, so this was their only energy source. With the downfall of the older religions, war became necessary and the gods had to come up with bigger and better plans to create bloodshed. The book didn't tell me that part. The flier I found tucked into ...more

Yep, I still love this series. Vervain (despite the horrible name) is a snarky, strong, kick-ass character and I love her. Even with all her issues. And that's part of WHY I love the character - she's not perfect. There is clearly some deep-seated trauma related to relationships that she struggles with all the time. That being said...

This is definitely a story that revolves ALL around Vervain. She is the center of the universe and everyone is focused on her and everything that

DNF - 75%
Felt very lacking of substance and immature. Even with curse words and sex included, however even those seemed more like after thoughts, added in later to make it more adult. I couldn't continue after 75%. I admit I was looking for another Lexi Blake Thief Series, and this one left me needing much more than it was giving.

I was thoroughly impressed with this book Amy Sumida really pulls you into the world of Gods and Goddesses, Her world building was actually jaw dropping and it isn't often that I am emersed in a book as I was with this one.

I generally take about a day to finish a book never had it taken me two days to finish one. this one did but in the best of ways possible. Sumida made the Gods belie

DNF at 40% - I just didn't care for the storyline or the heroine for that matter. I'm glad it was offered as a freebie, but it definitely wont be a series I will continue. Speaking of this as a series, I just saw that it has over 15 books in it now. And still little to no resolution or closure, and the books tend to end on cliffhanger. Um, no thanks!

Meh. While I could see potential in this Anita Blake wannabe series, the snark/witty attempts were just too forced and not terribly funny. Very immature.

Not for me.

Ohhh wow. Racist AF. Yikes.

DNF at about 10% in.
I'm not sure this series is for me. It should be. I love Goddesses and gods and witchcraft and herbs! Shit, her name is Vervain, for crying out loud! For whatever reason, I just couldn't get into it. Maybe, I'll try again some other time in my life.
DNF 10%. Just not my writing style.

I liked it. Actually, I really liked it. I couldn't get into it at first, I huffed a bit but I soon got hooked. I don't know what it is about it - the writing isn't terribly great, the wording is sometimes a bit confusing and the explanations are sometimes a bit lacking. But am I gonna read the next book? Yes.

I am so glad I did not read the reviews before purchasing Godhunter. So many readers have compared this series to other series by other authors, why? It is not going to be the same. Please go into this with an open mind, and if you are not a fan of witty snarky heroines who spout movie lines as often as breathing; then this is probably not the series for you.

I, however, really enjoyed Godhunter. I could get behind the sass and wit of the main character, Vervain, and the whole book is from her PO

I love Urban Fantasy and mythology and was so excited about this one. It started out well enough, but it didn't take long for my excitement to fizzle. The book does have mythological characters, so many that by the time I was half way through, I'm not sure if any Pantheon was missed. The problem with all the gods crammed into this story is that I never figured out exactly why they needed Vervain for their quest or why she was a Godhunter in the first place. Basically, the world-building lacks co ...more

I was so excited when I started this book. It was definitely a new ideas and the relationship between Vervain and Thor is very interesting. Then I realized that it’s part of a series. I wasn’t sure what to think, but gave it a try anyway. I really enjoyed the journey this book took. The author created an entire (new) universe out of the traditional Gods and Goddess’s we heard about as children.

Finally gave in

I’m finally rating this series. It’s been out there for years now, but I’ve hemmed and hawed, mainly because it’s so long, and since it’s RH, I’ve worried it would devolve like Hamilton’s work (nothing against that talented author, I just got tired). But this book really was a great introduction to this world, good characters, interesting plot line, great reworking of myths.

DNF at 20%. Hate the heroine's voice, she tries too hard to be witty, and it's too much. It felt too forced, and it fell flat. Extremely immature. Too unlikable to continue.

Great series!

Totally hooked from the start. Vervaine is one of those FMCs that has trouble which seems to follow her. Recommend for fans of slow build RH over time.

So I'm a bit blah on this, it has potential but still didn't really wow. It could be because this was one of this authors first books so the writing is not very polished yet. While I can like the heroine I also can't get behind her selflessness and her warm and cold feeling towards Thor, mostly because I don't understand them I think, they aren't spelled out clearly enough. I also think this book and probably the next are too long, definitely could have had at least a 100 pages of filler edited ...more

This is my first ever DNF review on Great Imaginations, and I'm pretty much scared, let me admit that HAHAH. *side-eyes everyone* Okay, I rarely DNF a book usually, unless the book has a horrrrible main character. I really really HATE it when the main character is badly written, because it will ruin the whole story line for me. Currently, I am having this very very strong urge to RANT OUT everything wrong with this book, but I shall calm myself down and instead list the FIVE reasons as to why I ...more

If you are trying to decide whether to read this book, do yourself a favour and DO IT!!!!

I read the mixed reviews on this book and nearly didn't go for it but I was curious to see how Amy could keep a story going for 20 books so I bought this book. Best decision ever because I am 13 books in and this series is amazing. It starts off slow which can be frustrating to some but I was personally pleased with the build up and descriptions of people and places which makes her world come alive and you f
