Dogs of War

Rate this book
In 'Dogs of War' we rejoin Halo Bay and the Hellhounds as they adjust to an unexpected loss. Weakened and feeling as if they may be losing the battle, the Hellhounds reach out to the most unlikely of creatures...that of the vampires. At Ari's insistence, two very powerful vampires are called upon to help them.

Hunter, who has a sordid past with Dorin and Vanessa, Queen of the vampires and daughter to Dracula himself. As they struggle to solidify their new alliance, Halo finds she has to barter with the only thing she truly owns. Herself. This is a deal that Lucifer is eager to seal and, blinded by love, Halo may be stepping into a plan set in motion centuries before she even existed.

Will she restore the balance between Heaven and Hell? Or will be become the final seal?

My review for: Hellhound: Dogs of War by Rue Volley
My rating: 5 out of 5 stars
Shanna Roberson

Holy. Frackin’. Hell.

Yup, once again Rue Volley has blown my friggin’ mind with Hellhound: Dogs of War! There aren’t many writers out there that can blend horror, scorching sex, emotion and just pure heart-stopping action seamlessly in one story, but Rue Volley has owned that sh*t!

Hellhound: Dogs of Wars starts right where book one leaves off. Without spoiling too much of the storyline, by the end of Hellhound 1, Halo’s pack of five hounds is shy a few dogs. Guilt-ridden, she realizes she can’t just go on without her fallen comrades, so she plans to risk everything to put things right in her house.

With nothing left to lose, she decides to bargain with the Prince of Fire; the master of lies and false faces to save her lover and her friend. Can Halo trust anything out his mouth when it is clear of his blatant interest in her?

And with a series crossover character appearance that is EXPLOSIVE, Hellhound 2 is probably my favorite ‘horror-tica’ series out there! Pure fire, purely addictive, and in total Rue-fashion, the Hellhound series will suck you in; spit you out and have you begging for more…

ok, so i usually don't have a hard time coming up with what i want to say after reading a book by rue. but this one i had to actually sit here and think for a bit. rue is literally the wtf just happened, cliffhanger queen, and she has done it again.i truly did not see the lil curve ball she threw there at the end, and it is going to kill me waiting for book 3 to come out. and i thank rue from the bottom of my heart. i absolutely love her and her writing style a little more with each and every book, and can't wait to see what lucifer brings us next :)
i loved this book so much i GIFTED it to 4 friends. so yeah, i guess you could say i recommend it,lol.
bring it on lucifer and my amazing friend rue :)

Ms. Volley has done it again and worked her magic to enchant me and making want to read more very badly. I was so hooked, I read it in two hours. This mystical and magical story has many twists and turns that kept me addicted from beginning to end. This author has a way of spinning her web of writing to where you really must know what will happen next. This is a RECOMMENDED MUST READ that will keep you entertained and yet excited about the next book with the terrific and shocking ending to the second book in this remarkable series.

This is my honest opinion...

I got distracted a lot reading this book. I've finished it because I hate to leave a book unfinished. I read the first book but I will not read the rest in the series because I just don't understand the story.

by the end of this book Lucifer has made a hell hound pregnant, and still I always thought that hell hounds were (demon pups).

I loved the story but the writing was chaotic and the story didn't flow so well as in the first Hellhound book. I had to re-read quite a few bits because it didn't make sense the first time I read it.
The many typos also distracted me from the story.

All in all it is a good story even if the editing could've been better and I liked it enough to read the next book in the series because I want to know what happens to Halo, Gunner and the rest of the charachters.

SPOILER

All I can say is wow! I don't know how it's possible but the second book is better then the first. It will leave you guessing. So many twists. Just when you think it is going to go one way, it twists on you.

In the first book at the end, Gunner gives up his freedom (if you can call it that) to save Halo from her injuries. He has to go to Hell with Lucifer and stay. Each day is hard for her. Missing Gunner and loosing her only friend Dorin. She tries to deal with the coldness the others bestow. She finally makes a deal. She asks of Lucifer to let her see him. To know he is ok. He agrees, the stipulation, she has to sleep with him and then he will release Gunner.

In her journey, Hunter and Vanessa go with her to find Dorin. Two Vampires to which she doesn't know if she can trust. In Hell they split from her in search for him. They do find him, healthy. But in the process of getting out they have to fight. Then Lucifer shows up. Tells them to leave. They take the chance that they have and go.

Meanwhile, Halo is led to a room that is one big Orgy. She starts to feel her urges and slipping further into the realm. Feeling her self drawn to what is going on around her. Lucifer meets her there. Fighting her urges she takes a drink to which she thought was wine and wasn't, she starts to feel the effects. Suddenly doing as Lucifer asks is becoming easy. She is taken to a room where he is to meet with her. There she starts having second thoughts. Though she knows she must go through it so that he releases Gunner. To know that he is ok, Halo asks to see him. When he walks into the room she runs to Gunner and in the excitement of seeing each other, they spend the hour they have in bed. In each others love to one another.

After that hour Lucifer changes his mind and releases them both. He tells Halo she has to kill Vanessa and Hunter or Gunner will be brought back. While wondering why he has changed his mind she takes what is offered.

When they are finally home Gunner comes up with a solution. To kill Lucifer. He merges and become allies with Vampire. If that is even possible. While the Hellhounds and Vampires plot to kill Lucifer, he has a twist for them. This twist I don't want to give away. But, it will leave you speechless. I know it did me.

I received a copy of this book from the author in return for an honest review.

This is the second book in the Hellhound series. I really enjoyed this novella!

Halo Bay is a character that I liked from the first book. She had horrible judgement in men when she was alive, but now she is a Hellhound (a type of guardian to keep the demons from getting out of hand in the human world). She is feisty and quite adept at kicking demon butt. However, she is also hunted by her nemesis, Lucifer, who desires her.

I began to read this book on the bus, going home from work, and I didn't want to put it down! The story introduces some new characters. Hunter and Vanessa are vampires who have been brought in to help the Hellhounds after the demise of Dorin, and the loss of Gunner to Hell. I wasn't sure what these two were to each other (lovers or friend siblings (as they weren't blood related)), as they constantly bickered. Unfortunately, I couldn't feel anything for these characters, although I did like Hunter more than Vanessa. They didn't seem to be as lifelike as Halo, Gunner or even Lucifer. Nevertheless, they brought a new dimension to the story. The story is told from several points of view, but mainly through Halo's eyes. I liked the way the story unfolded, and there were a few twists that I didn't see coming. However, there was a scene that I had my suspicions about, and the end of the story confirmed what I thought. I am now looking forward to reading the next part of the story as soon as it is released!

Rue Volley has written a wonderfully steamy erotic romance series that had more heat than the fires of Hell! Her characters are interesting and are very likable. I love her fast paced writing style, which flowed beautifully!

I do not recommend this book to readers under 18 due to scenes of an explicit sexual nature and the use of foul language. However, I recommend this book if you love HOT steamy romances (paranormal or contemporary), with a dark fantasy twist. - Lynn Worton

Received from: a gift from my friend, Patricia Crews
Recommended for: 18+ due to sexual content and violence
Grammar/editing: B – a few small errors

What would you do for love? Halo proves that she will go through Hell for her love, but then she is walking lines between trust, friends, allies, and duty. How will she maintain the balance of Heaven and Hell without losing her own center?

So, I need to mention again, this book was not on my very tight schedule, but things happen. If you read the previous review, you saw that I was sitting at home, alone on a Friday night, surfing Facebook instead of reading, when Patricia Crews invited me to an online party for Saturday. I popped in to accept the invite and Patti bowled me over with the biggest hug – I needed that, you know that whole ALONE ON FRIDAY NIGHT thing – and asked if I had read the first Hellhound? I honestly hadn’t heard of them, so big heart that she has, she goes and gifts both the first and second books to me. So in the wee hours Saturday morning I read the first book, and I was hooked! Thankfully I had book two also from Patti, but now we’re going to be whining about not having book three yet. Ms. Volley, you have another stalker!

Ms. Volley, your betas are doing a great job with content and flow, but you need someone dedicated to grammar. That is my only complaint. I absolutely loved this story. Though I guessed the ending situation, I loved how you presented it. Even so, I will admit it may have been me you heard screaming, “NOOOOOO!!”

Will I read more? HELL YES! If you haven’t started reading any of the books from this author, let me know. We may have to do something about that!

Oh, and, by the way – that party I mentioned – I won an autographed copy of book 1 from this series. I am seriously excited!

REVIEW
** This Series is intended for those 18+ years and older **

This book picks right up where Hellhound #1 left off. As we know Gunner has made some kind of deal with Lucifer so that Halo could keep living and being a hellhound. And Dorin is also now gone. They are now down to 3 hellhounds and Halo knows what that means but if Gunner and Dorin are truly gone they would get 2 more because there is always 5. Halo decides to try to make things right and the only way to do that is to make a deal with the Devil himself none other than Lucifer.
She actually agrees to DATE HIM !!! But can she trust him? She is given Gunners blade and it just breaks her heart but she vows to fight for him. One morning she is shocked to find 2 guests in the house and her heart is breaking because she knows what that means. Enter Hunter and Vanessa 2 vampires. And let the ACTION, STEAMY HOT ESCAPADES begin!!!!

Can Halo save Gunner? What about Dorin where is he or is he truly gone?
Well PICKUP a copy and find out !!!

And YESSSSSSSSS the author leaves us with a shocking ending !!! I can’t wait now for book 3..

**And because I am a Beta Reader although not for Rue Volley . I did note in this book as well as the first a few issues but I will not allow that to determine my rating of this Wickedly GREAT BOOK !!! **

What.... she says in a screeching voice

She did it again left me hanging, I found my heart pounding felt all this crazy anticipation as what was coming next. Then the bottom dropped out, nothing is as it seems, you might say you figured it out but you just can't see it coming. Rue Volley is so talented with the tangled web she weaves with such skill.

I was original given a copy of the book but the print was difficult to read so I ended up purchasing this book however I am still doing this review for The Wicked Reads Review Team.

I highly recommend this series and don't buy just one get all three because you won't be able to handle the wait. There is mayhem, violence, lies, deception, there is love between lovers and friends and sex, steamy sex. This books isn't heavy on sex but it's lover story is very real all consuming. I wanted For Gunner and Halo, they need to find a way to each other to end their turmoil and find some semblance of happiness. Then just as you think it's possible there's a twist and the bottom falls out.

So yes I bought book three and devoured it as fast as I could.
Get it because you love to read, get it because you love a good storyline, get it because you need a mystery a puzzle to piece together but get all three cause you won't want to stop.
Thank you Wicked Reads Review Team for allowing me to review this book and thank you Rue Volley for writing this fantastic series and giving us a copy to review.

“I let my head fall slightly as the words tore through my chest and settled like cancer in my heart”. These words carry a very large impact for this story from Ms. Volley.
How do you put into words how amazing Ms. Volley is when she brings a story like this to her fans? I have never seen anyone write like she does, so many books and be able to grab me consistently and feel I need to demand more. With the amount of series she has out, you could pick anyone of them and never come out for air till you have read the final sentence. I find myself thinking about any and all stories she writes after reading each and every one of them. This story is no different from any of them and I find myself extremely excited for the next book in this series. Enough about the joy of reading ANY Rue Volley book that I could not tear myself away from, but on with the tease of this book.
Halo has to figure out a way to get into Hell just to see Gunner and knows she will have to yet again, make a deal with Lucifer. But what will she have to give this time to have what her heart really wants? Be prepared to see a few favorite vampires come to life in this story that are in another one of the great series Ms. Volley has written for her never ending fans. Also be prepared as always for the “how did she did that to me” moment and you might want to keep some Kleenex close by as well. Just sayin….

*** EROTICA BOOK CLUB REVIEW ****

Hellhound: Dogs of War (Hellhound #2)
by Rue Volley

Book 2 in the series continues from book 1 everyone is trying to deal with the loss they have suffered and Halo wants to get Gunner out of hell and makes a deal with Lucifer. There is also an alliance of sorts made with the Vampires but nothing is as it seems especially when Lucifer is involved.
I still like Gunner but I love Lucifer big time he is a bad boy to beat all bad boys and screws with peoples heads. Delving more into the story and into Halo has made this another fantastic read that I devoured in no time at all. I am undecided about the vampires on whether to trust them or not.

Just when I think I can't be any more impressed with Rue Volley's writing she goes and writes another book that blows me away even though by the end of this one I want to throw my kindle at her, so yes there is a big cliffhanger at the end of this one!
A well written and imaginative read that will not leave you disappointed.
This is a short one and I do believe I could read this series forever and never get tired of it so looking forward to the next book.

Spectacular!
I was gifted an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Halo’s epic Journey continues as she must do the unthinkable in order to see her true love one last time…
Now many things stand in her way but with the aid of old and new friends, she just may have a chance in Hell. However, this is Hell we are talking about and Lucifer is no easy win. Meanwhile secrets of the past never stay buried for long and she must decide who she can trust and how far she will go.
Ms. Volley has a unique way of storytelling that will capture your heart and mind as you enter the worlds that she has created. I have had the pleasure of reading a lot of her work and I have yet to read one I didn’t enjoy. This story is no different. Actually I will have to say it is my favorite series of hers.
This one like the first book, once you start you can’t put it down!! There are many revelations that will come to light as you read this second installment. I will have to tell you that the ending will throw you for a loop! I didn’t see that one coming! Needless to say I can’t wait to get hold of book 3!

Book 2 is more action packed. Some scenes were down right gory and disgusting, it was Awesome! They will make great scenes to play out in the movie.

Story plot developed a little more. Some development on the characters. Still not feeling/connecting to what the author is writing. I found myself reading on idle. Reading the sentences, but just enough to know what's going on. Just can't get into the story. I could stop reading, never wondering what happens. But I want to finish the series in hope of comparing to the movie.

There is an underline moral with Halo and how she was treated by her husband. In connection to the author and her past. Halo rebound to her savior and never took no for an answer.

I would of gave a 3 stars also, but the book did end with a Bang. That deserved 4 stars.
There was major editing issues, but didn't bother me. We all are just human. We make mistakes. We can't be 100% all the time. Even professionals make mistakes. :) I don't grade on grammar.

On to book 3, gotta found out why Lucifer deceived, Halo and Gunner!!

WARNING: This series is intended for those 18+ only due to its explicit and graphic nature.

OMG! Rue has done it again! She has created a world as thrilling and dangerous as it is sexy, it is steamy in all the right places.

HAWT DAYUM and Twisted as only Rue Volley can do! I can imagine seeing this as an anime film. That would be Hot and Addictive!

Halo and Gunner have grown and their world is about to be tested in a very sexciting and action-packed way. Enter in the two badass vampires--ICE PLEASE--whom I adore, Hunter and Vanessa, the scenes really get twisted as the story flows and turns things in a very thrilling, yet erotic way. I Loved it.

Just Imagining Hunter and Gunner in the same room - SWOON! Bring on Installment #3 soon please.

Okay so I guess you have to read the first one because it just jumps into the second one. so from the beginning we are grieving someone I don't know who this dude is or what happened to him but we are grieving. O.o So then we skip to being in Hell. She has to sleep with Lucifer to rescue her (bf?). Okay so he lets her sleep with her bf before she sleeps with him. After she sleeps with the bf Lucifer changes his mind and tells her if she gets rid of a certain vampire (the same one that went down there to hell with her) she can take her bf home. So I'm not sure who the vamps are one of them is Queen of the vamps and I guess the other is her lover who is also gay? I feel kind of lost and I don't really know whats going on so I'm trying to wing it and hope it makes sense after a while. Okay I made it to %67 and I'm throwing in the towel. I have no idea what is going on so maybe this will be great for someone who is familiar with the series but its not for me.

Well, Ms. Volley, you have done it again. Another hot, suspenseful, action packed read. I am tired just from reading it! This is as hot as the first one, has more action and devious twists. I hope you are writing quickly for HH#3 because the cliffhanger has me holding onto the edge by the fingernails. I went right over the edge chasing just a little more...please...anything.

As usual the characters a flawed (in that good way that makes us love them even more). Halo is trying to right the wrongs with the Hellhounds. She is willing to do whatever it takes to bring them back. Yet, bargaining with the Prince of Lies is fraught with peril...

Please pick this one up the first day, January 4th. Well worth the one click.

I was lucky enough to read this one before publication for an honest review.

Wow what a second installment!

It starts a few weeks after Gunners departure to Hell and Halo is hellbent on getting him back so they won't have 2 new Hellhounds after Dorin's "death" at his sisters hand.
She knows her only way to get to him is through Lucifer and her only tool she knows he's weak to is her body but can she give him the goods when she knows her heart isn't his?

Don't want to spoil is but the ending is terrific and such a cliffhanger!

There are still editing errors that would need just one polish to complete and make it perfect(I highlited them whilst reading).
You could even pad the book out with an extra 100 pages to fill in some of the back story, it's that good. Excited to see what happens with this series

So sadly, this novel was not any better than the first. In fact, it was even more confusing, forgettable, and the spelling was worse. It was a complete waste of my money, and I couldn't even find something I really liked about it. The characters weren't as interesting as they were in the first novel, and the twist at the ending was kind of like "TA-DA!" so it made no sense to me. I would not recommend this book, but I will read the 3rd novel in hopes that it all comes together better than this novel, which is basically a filler.

A good continuation of the series. Still a short read with plenty of small grammatical errors, but not bad. I like the addition of Hunter and Vanessa and their moody relationship with one another, which was enjoyable. Lucifer is an ass, as always, but there's a twist at the end of this book that makes you want to get your hands on the 3rd book just to see what will happen. Again, not so bad overall.

I loved this book. Halo is one kick ass woman! Reviews I read before made me a bit weary but I really should have took no notice. War has broken out. Vampires, werewolves, hellhounds are battling demons left and right. Halo and Gunner's relationship has changed. But Lucifer is still bent on making Halo his. Fast paced like the first book and so fun to read. I recommend it for sure. Dont let the title fool you. There is love in Hell.

I will be fair on my review. I give this author a credit by having a great fictionalize imagination. The battle scenes and the cliffhanger are great, but the plot is weak...it needs to be elaborated more and support its reasoning. It is a quick read since it is a short novella. Since this is a self-published, the existence of grammatical errors are prevalent.

Same grammar issues at the first book, but not bad...however the spoiler for the 3rd book at the end boiled my blood, as it contained a HUGE plot hole that was carried on throughout the rest of the series. Very annoying. And sadly, as much as I want to know how the story ends...I simply can't bring myself to read the 4th book.

Classic Volley style, full of action scenes that sound straight out of a movie or TV show. An awesome twist at the end that I totally saw coming, but it was nice to confirm my suspicions. Still in love with Lucifer, and I'm glad to see the character we lost in book 1 back and kicking.
