Rate this book
Perhaps I long to be beaten, just once, " Captain LeNoir tells a young boy aboard the schooner Candace. LeNoir, who likes to race his Southern Belle against other ships, proves his daring by giving the boy his good-luck charm. Then, on All Hallow's Eve, LeNoir is beaten, by a deadly Nor'easter that sends the Southern Belle to the bottom of the sea. But in the storms that follow, she mysteriously reappears -- as a ghost ship, racing ship after ship to its doom. The lucky charm foretells each disaster, and the boy realizes he must challenge LeNoir's ghost to prevent more lives from being lost. Can the boy now use his luck to save the Southern Belle from her eternal unrest?

This was a very chilling book, it captured me from the start. However, because of its content and length I don’t think this would be a good book to read aloud. I also don’t think this would be a good book to keep in lower grade level class rooms.
