Excellent bio of Thomas Paine, who is on my list of those who contributed to England, America, France and yes, the foot soldiers for whom he purchase boots.

Levin provides historical accuracy and an honest tribute to Paine.

This is the true story of the original American patriot. It shows the spirit of
the man with "genius in his eyes" (quoting John Adams). It is a lively, spirited novel,
historically accurate, which sets the record straight about all the scurrilous lies that have been propogated over the centuries by Paine's self-motivated detractors (that he was slovenly or drunken, etc. etc.). It's a great read, a story that every red-blooded American ought to know, that Thomas Paine was really THE founder of the United States of America, that the "Founding Fathers" were following his lead, that he is the true author of the Declaration of Independence (Jefferson simply edited Paine's first draft), and that we owe our freedom and our history to his courage to foresee that we, as a people, "don't need a king" .

Definitely read it!
