Let me begin by saying I *love* Yousef Al-Mohaimeed's writing style which builds on the lore of his culture to create something contemporary but also mysterious and beautiful. "Munira's Bottle" is the story of one woman's love and heartbreak against the backdrop of the first Gulf War in Iraq, and Munira's story is gathered along with the sad stories of so many other Muslim women who attempt to forge meaningful lives of love and fulfillment in a culture that usually does not allow for it, giving ...more

Büyük hikayenin yanında insanı cezbeden bağlayan mini mini hikayeler vardı içinde . Ana TEMA'yı sindire sindire veren ama kitabın sonunda hiçbirşeyi havada bırakmadan açıklayan ilginç bir kitaptı... keyifli okumalar ...

I really liked it AND found the perspective interesting: a Saudi man writing in a woman's voice.

It was ok, but a novel from a woman's perspective, specially from such a divided culture, should be written by a woman.

A quaint story read as a translation. The story gives an insight into some of the history of the first Gulf War from the point of view of a young Saudi woman living at that time, and also into some of the cultural and social challenges faced by women in Saudi society. Sometimes the story seems a bit far fetched and whimsical, but as my second venture into reading some Saudi based literature, I found it an interesting and eye opening read.
