ASD (autism spectrum disorder) is a diagnosis that can be devastating for parents. The behaviors exhibited can be very mild to severe, but the authors of this book provide some practical advice for parents. The early chapters cover developmental behaviors to watch for, later chapters cover topics from genetic markers to food sensitivities. Although the authors don’t offer any “cures”, they do offer advice that help parents and ASD children handle the challenges of this disorder. Because food sensitivities and allergies can aggravate behaviors and many ASD children exhibit difficulties with healthy eating, more than 2/3 of the book discusses a gluten-free and casein-free diet. There are over 175 recipes included here. Although the language sometimes gets pretty technical, there is good advice here that would be useful to parents and teachers who want more information about ASD.
