Thanks Amy for letting me borrow this because my ride home was going to take longer than expected. This was a nice quick read and a pretty fun story.

The story isn't all that special. It thrives on the fun elements that these genderbended characters present. They have been transfered pretty well from comics and episodes to a novel. You often find them saying lines that they say a lot in the show as well. The story flows perfectly and is finished before you know it. You often find them saying lines that they say a lot in the show as well. The story flows perfectly and is finished before you know it. When it is you'll be wanting more of the devious Marshall and posh Prince Gumball. This book does so much more right than most young adult novels with a romance aspect, because it manages to give you a love triangle without having to mention that on every single page. It's definately there, but it's subtle. Fionna blushes when both of the boys are around, but thank god there's no inner monologue about her question her boy-choices like that is the most dire situation an action heroine could be in.

Although I do think this story isn't best told in this medium. The fun graphics would have given an element to it that it now lacked. I liked the story, because I like these characters. I like reading something that could have been one of the fanfictions from the show. But Fionna, Gumball and Marshall didn't shine as much on this kind of paper as they did in comic book panels. While this book is as smart with their character development as the show and comic is, the story itsself is not that special. You get what you see. This book reads like a novelization of an Adventure Time episode. A fun one, but unfortunately not those episodes that leaves you mindboggled and want to punch everyone that claimes that cartoons are for kids (episodes with Simon, anyone? :D).

Here's to hoping they'll write a really good novel about Marceline and Simon's backstory aimed at older readers. That part of the series is pretty deep! Unfortunately this novel wasn't, but it sure is better at characterisation and handling romance plots than your standard young adult, chicklit or children novel. ...more

I was really surprised by how much I enjoyed this book. I was expecting some lazy spinoff that would coast on fans' love for the Adventure Time series, but this book is a fun adventure in its own right.

The writing was solid and moved along at a good pace. The story tells of Fionna's first introduction to Gumball and Marshall Lee; I don't know if it's actually considered cannon, but I would hope so. It's your typical Fionna and Cake adventure, but with maybe a little more adventure thrown in.

The second in a series of children's chapter books set in the Land of Ooo, the setting of Adventure Time, Queen of Rogues is a silly little book, but one that should be an entertaining and gripping read for any kids who are fans of the show. This book was okay, but a little weird. It felt like the author tried too hard to capture the Adventure Time tone. Maybe if this was actually in the show it would have been executed better.
Nevertheless, it's still an enjoyable read for Adventure Time fans, especially kids. It's full of action and never any slow moments.
But don't expect this to be like the show. It's basically a fanfiction AU where the gender bent AT characters are out at sea. It's worth a read if you like the show. ...more
