The Vampire Writers Support Group proudly presents FRESH BLOOD, an eclectic collection of short stories set in a dark, bloodsoaked world full of vampires.

10 books14 followersDaniel Shaurette was born and raised in Phoenix, Arizona. A self-proclaimed "desert rat", he is a proud native of the Valley of the Sun.
He wrote the manuscript for his first novel, LILITH'S LOVE, while earning a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science at Arizona State University. The novel is, at its core, a romance; a tale of Love transcending even the boundaries of time and death.
Dan created Crimson Swan Press to independently publish the paperback novel, eBook versions, and the serialized podcast audio version of the novel.

What is it about vampires that they remain a preference of so many readers and viewers? Is it their promise of liberation from the ordinary? Is it their guarantee of practical immortality? Is it the romantic, erotic temptation of the dark, mysterious seducer? Is it the raw thrill they exhibit when they feed on the blood of the living?
Or is it perhaps all of the above?
These concepts, and more, are explored in this anthology featuring the original work of many talented authors, all with one thing in common: an unwavering passion for vampires. From the confined, asylum setting of Selene MacLeod’s Psych, to the “War of the Roses”–style conflict of Jay Wilburn’s Bitter, to High Stakes, Tabitha Grace Smith’s and Emma Rawlin’s variation on the “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” theme, FRESH BLOOD spans the wide range of one of horror’s most popular character-types. Brian Patrick McKinley’s contribution, Avery Goes on a Bender, a sequel of sorts to his own Ancient Blood, bridges the ultimate gap by delving into a vampire fan’s viewpoint when his fantasy actually becomes reality.
All of the tales are nicely done, with relatable characters, diverse settings, and nuanced plotting. Though all are self-contained, many convey the impression that they were meant to be developed into full-length novels, evoking feelings of wanting and hope for more once the endings are reached. Standalone stories are also an excellent, accessible way to gain entry into the private worlds of writers one may not have been aware of previously. Each one has their own distinctive mark to leave on the throat of the genre.

Vampire Stories with Fresh Twists
Fresh Blood is an eclectic collection of vampire stories.
My personal favorite is Revelation, by Donna Fernstrom. Ms. Fernstrom is better known as the author of Decision and Sorrows. Her trademark imagination and wonderful characters are present in the short story.
My runner up was Blood Bank, by Donald L. Pitsiladis. Bank Officer Darren Crenshaw bites off more than he can chew when agrees to meet with a group faced with eviction.
Miss Congeniality is Tear of Blood. Matthew E. Banks weaves a chilling tale of true love.
All of the stories are excellent, each memorable in its own way.
