The only woman who had power over notorious rake Robert Marlow was now walking away from him, again.

Jane Lark proves to me that her début ‘The Illicit Love of a Courtesan’ was not ‘one off’ and that she can write a very romantic, deeply emotional and sexually charged story for an adult audience that appreciates her wonderful prose, witty dialogue and an interesting plot.

Here is what I loved about this book, and what I found fascinating too. The Heroine. She was made of such stern stuff that I couldn’t help but admire her. To some, she might seem stubborn, but to me ...Thank you for popping in

"So, what do we do now?"
"I don’t know."
"You started it, Jane. Do you have any idea how much I want you? It’s been hell trying to keep my hands off you. But if that is what you want, I will."
She shook her head and shrugged her shoulders against the ground. "I have no idea what I want."

And so it goes. Jane's catchphrase is "Robert, I don't know what I want, waaaah!"

I appreciate a good love story. I was always a romantic and loved romantic movies. When I was a little girl, I didn’t play house and I didn’t push a baby in a stroller. My best friend and I pretended that we had boyfriends. I don’t remember what kind of boy she liked at the time, but I do remember mine. I always wanted a boyfriend who had a motorcycle and wore a leather jacket. He was tough and could beat up any of the other boys in my class. I guess I knew from the beginning I wanted someone st ...more

Dark, emotional, and romantic, The Passionate Love of a Rake was a brilliant historical romance! I loved book 1 in this series, so I had high hopes for this book. And, it met every one. Absolutely fantastic-I loved this book!

Jane was a heroine who has been through a lot. She was forced into a marriage to a man old enough to be her grandfather, who liked to use her as a pretty object to attract envy. His son, her stepson, who is 20 older than her, has been trying to force her into

Jane Lark definitely has a winning formula and a great future. She has strong, believable, loveable characters, in this case Robert and Jane (love the straightforward names). Her story lines are plausible and interesting.

Robert and Jane were childhood lovers, a series of misunderstandings and interference (unknowingly, as they were secret and innocent lovers) saw Jane married off for prestige and money (by her Father) to the Duke of Sutton, old enough to be her grandfather. The Duke wanted Jane

'The Passionate Love of a Rake' overflows with sensuous Regency romance. The second in the Marlowe Intrigues this is definitely my favourite so far.

Robert the elder brother of Edward who we met in 'The Illicit Love of a Courtesan' is the passionate rake. A dark, brooding man full of mystery is gradually unravelled by Jane the Dowager Duchess of Sutton, his first love.

This story oozes romance and heartbreak.

Jane's story reveals th

As soon as Robert Marlow hears that his former (girl)friend Jane is no longer tied into a relationship, his interest is once again sparked. Is it however, because he wants revenge for things that happened long ago or are his feelings for Jane deeper than he could have ever imagined? Although there are so many obstacles to overcome, can this love have a chance?

I devoured Jane Lark’s first book The Illicit Love of a Courtesan and could not wait to start reading this one. Similar to her first book,

Jane and Robert knew each other since they were children. They felt in love and Robert propose to Jane only to be rejected as she was already promised to the elderly Duke of Sutton.

Several years later, Jane, newly widow with a problematic son-in-law, stumbles upon Robert at a ball and past feelings come rushing back.

This book was very frustracting because of Jane. She was such a damsell in ditress it was annoying. Most of her problems could have been easily resolved only if she could speak of t

To say I have been eagerly awaiting, what is now affectionately know by fans as, Robert's story, would be an understatement. I chomped at the bit until I could let myself loose on this book and Jane Lark . . . thank you for not letting your readers down!

Robert's appearances in The Illicit Love of a Courtesan initially gave the impression of an arrogant and autocratic man but a softer side begins to peak through towards the end. The reader is then treated to Lord Barrington's inner monologue over

I'm on the fence with this one. I really liked the writing, but I was a bit frustrated about the whole two steps forward, one step backward dance that the main characters did in the book. Even the hero mentions it a few times saying to the heroine that she "runs hot and cold". That was how their interactions were for a long time, too, hot and cold. They were attracted to each other, but then no, leave me alone, I don't need this. That was the first half of the book. Even towards the end, when th ...more

The second book in Jane Lark’s Marlow Intrigues series, I read an Advanced Review copy graciously provided by the author for an impartial review.
I first read British author Jane Lark’s sexy debut, Illicit Love—now titled The Illicit Love of a Courtesan—last May. I was intrigued by the fact that Lark based her book on real life courtesan Harriette Wilson and I was enticed by the quotes she was tantalizing Twitter with, so I bought it with a birthday gift card for my Nook Simple Touch.

Hated heroine too much to finish

Can't remember ever feeling such dislike for a character or -to be apt- a lack of character.

Great thing that this character was beautiful because she wasn't intelligent , she wasn't consistent , and she certainly didn't have much personality. Unless silent suffering and perpetual victimization are you're idea of good traits.

She did have moments of courage. She did go into society whilst in mourning and later flouted convention by shedding the black long before

Review from Jeannie Zelos Book reviews
So having read the first book in Jane's historical series and loved it I was keen to read this story about older brother Robert.
In much the same way as Ellen from the first book, Jane was also stuck in a lifestyle she didn't want and couldn't escape. Her elderly husband has died and left her his fortune, but his estranged son isn't happy – he's got the estates and lots of property but he wants the money too. He's a
5 Stars!!!

I loved this book and the series. So far I love this story the best in the series. Robert is a complex man with deep feelings but so stubborn to let these feelings out. Baggage has kept him a playboy and unable to commit to any relationship. Jane has even more baggage than Robert if its even possible. But the common factor between these two is after so many years they have never let their feelings for one another diminish. These feelings have been locked away so long can they rekindle

When I was given the opportunity to read this book for review I was thrilled. After absolutely loving the first book in the Marlow Intrigues Series - The Illicit Love of a Courtesan, I could not wait to get stuck into this book! And thankfully it lived up to my expectations. Historical romance is a newish genre for me and Jane Lark has piqued my interest so much with her books that I am now a fan!

I'm a big fan of historical/regency fiction, but to stop it from becoming 'silly fluff' (not my words) it has to be well written. Thankfully Jane Lark's writing always draws me in and she does historical well. I seem to be making a habit of reading book series out of order and this was no exception. I started The Passionate Love of a Rake having already read a later book but this didn't really matter because the plot mainly focuses on different characters.

The story is essentially a second-chance

I would like to thank Jane Lark for sending me a copy of this in exchange for a fair and honest review.

I am now totally addicted to these books, the hero’s as in Roberts case are great characters. I have got to say that he is one of my favourite characters in all of these books he is definitely a rake but a rake with a great sense of humour.

In this book we get to find out more about Robert and why he left England all those years ago, leaving his brother Edward to cope with a whole host of things

We first met Robert Marrow in the Illicit Love of a Courtesan. He was the churlish older brother of Edward. In the second book in the Marlow Intrigue Series, we finally learned why Robert shirked his duties, and it's all due to a woman named Jane.
Jane had no choice but to walk away all those years ago. An arranged marriage, that was not of her choice put her in a position that she she HAD to walk away. Robert could never understand.

So now is also the second book of Marlow Intrigues finished. Unfortunately it wasn't any better that the first book of the series - The Illicit Love of a Courtesan.

Once again was the main problem between the main characters the lack of communications and mistrust. Although they iron all the kinks out at the end, but all their troubles started years ago when one wasn't brave enough to write about her fears and other wasn't patience enough to listen. They aren't any better year later - still one

The Passionate Love of a Rake is another compelling historical tale spun by Jane Lark. It has all the right combination for a Romance - Intrigue, steamy passion and heartbreak all set amongst the cantankerous and judgmental backdrop of Regency London's Ton and English Country Estates. Jane and Robert are perfectly suited even if they battle against their feelings for the majority of the book. The author has inserted lots of twists and turns to keep the reader's attention all the way through. My ...more

It was good! It dragged in a few places, but overall it's a great read! I loved all the characters and their personality's! Jane reminded me a lot of a shy naive but also strong-willed woman! But being stuck in her cage for so long she wasn't sure of how to act or who she could trust in the end! Although I didn't get why she didn't trust Robert enough to help her with Joshua is beyond me.
