I decided to read this book after reading "Bared to You" which I loved.
SPOILER ALERT!!**
Basically you automatically get introduced to the main characters Lyssa Bates and Aiden Cross. Lyssa is a regular human "Dreamer" while Aiden is a nearly immortal "Guardian." When dreamers fall asleep, but before they enter deep sleep, they enter the "Twilight" which is another dimension which we know as the dream world. The Guardians each have certain tasks for the Dreamers. They are able to enter their dreams and basically give them their dreams. Some able to fulfil deep desires of the Dreamers disguised as who the Dreamers wish to see, some even just creating a setting of maybe a picnic or sport event, all without the Dreamer ever knowing their identity or the truth of what goes on. However, the main job for the Guardians is to protect the Dreamers from the Nightmares. The Nightmares wish to haunt the dreams of the Dreamers until slowly they deteriorate from exhaustion, fear of sleep and so on. However, the Guardians constanly search for "The Key." The Key is a Dreamer who is able to control their dreams and see the Guardian's true identities. The Key is said to have the power to open the Gateway and allow the Nightmares to enter the human world would be a disaster as we know it, which is why the Elders search for it and wish to destroy it.
So, Aiden is assigned enter Lyssa's dream world. The Elders were suspicious of her since she knows about the Guardians and refuses them to enter. Somehow she allows Aiden in more than once where they learn about each other, fall in love...and have some hot steamy sex ;). So of course Aiden realises his worst fear when he discovers Lyssa is the Key. Suspecting that the Elders hide the truth about the Key and more, he risks his life to save her from death; he finds a way into her world and at her doorstep where she has no memory of meeting him.
Basically, this part of the book drags where they get to know each other all over, while be protects her from the Twilight by exhausting her with sex and sleeping pills, before Aiden realizes he must go back go his world where they have no chance if being together. Realizing the danger he's in, Lyssa soon follows him to the Twilight through her dreams to fight back. At this point, its unclear of the details of what happens but basically Lyssa and Aiden share heartbreaking goodbyes, she returns to her world heartbroken , and everyone's memory of Aiden is erased but enable to be strong enough to erase Lyssa's. Somehow, Aiden finds a way to return to her world in the end deciding he would travel and jump back and forth between worlds, still a little unclear how this comes about but I'm sure we'll find out more in the next.
This story started out fast and good, rushing right in. However, is slowed down towards the middle until more than 2/3rds in, and besides the okay sex I was a little bored. The story line had so much potential, I was intrigued and it got me thinking, but there was no climax! We jump into the small climax, jump back out with an easy way out. I really loved every character individually. Lyssa, a smart beautiful veterinarian with a sense of humor. Where to start with Aiden? He is literally the man of her dreams, sexy, strong, wise, amazingly good looking, the whole package. I was sucked into their love story but the story as a whole needed more and the ending felt a little unresolved. I'm going to wait for the other books in the series to judge further on this as a whole. This book was OKAY maybe good but it could have been better. I learned Sylvia Day's ability to write incredibly well with Bared to You. Pleasures of the Night was written very well and creatively, but needs more to the storyline. BUT, we still need to find out what Lyssa can do, how Aiden can manage to be with her, what the Elders are hiding, and more..

3 Very Erotic Stars
I listened to the audio version of Pleasures of the Night. I love Sylvia Day. She’s one of the first romance authors I read. There’s something about the classic way she writes I find comforting. You don’t stray from what you love.
Pleasure of the Night is an Erotic paranormal book. It’s out there and it’s really steamy. I would say about 70% of the book is steam, so if you are like me and listen to books at work, just make sure the volume is on low because you don’t want your co-workers to hear you.
I’m all about unique and out-of-the-box storylines, but based on the reviews, this isn’t for everyone. It’s about Lyssa having sex dreams, but her sex dreams aren’t really dreams, she’s actually having sex with Aidan. The dreams are crazy hot.
A lot more goes on in the book, like who Aidan really is and why Aidan and Lyssa can’t be together. The plot kind of takes a back seat to the sex to be honest. Like I said, there’s lots of it.
I didn’t hate it, nor did I love it. I just found it different and will I read the second book? Of course, I already have it audio.

I actually found the premise of this novel very interesting, unfortunately it was just written by a amateur writer. I felt completely disconnected from the 'love' between the two main characters. Day kept writing on the page how passionate they were together but I didn't pick up on that when reading. It take more to convey passion and a depth of feeling then simply stating it in black and white. The characters have to display this through their gestures. The only love scene that caught my interest and had anything real behind it was the goodbye love scene, where he described his dream of their life together.

This is my 1st book by Silvya Day and all I can say is oh em gee!! LOL! I was completely taken by surprise with the sex scenes in this book. I knew when I decided to give this type of book a try, based on the description that it would have some erotic scenes but was shocked when I read the 1st page! I gotta say though, I quite enjoyed it and plan to buy the next book in the series. Though I'm a bit dissapointed to find out she doesn't have plans to continue the series till later due to dissagrements with the publisher. If you're looking for a recommendation on it, I give it a 5 stars, definitely worth the read.

Previše je ovdje vrlo vrlo vrlo nerealnih situacija koje se nisu svidjele mojim moralnim stajalištima. Dođe ti nepoznati muskarac, pokuca na vrata i ti ga pustiš u sobu i odmah u krevet. ????? 🤔 i tko normalan naziva spolni organ breskvicom?! A i sve te iscrpljujuće scene seksa su me uništile, pa ljudi, znate li ista drugo osim se seksati? I opet seksati. I opet seksati. I mogu tako nabrajati do prekosutra. Inače volim erotske knjige, da se razumijemo. Ali ono, daj prvo se upoznajte, pitaj ju koja joj je najdraža boja, ili koji bend sluša, a ne odmah hopa cupa. Ali prica je kao ok, pa eto 3 zvjezdice.

4.5 Stars for this unique story on dreams
Aiden Cross is a dream guardian- one who protects people while they sleep in order to prevent nightmares. Sometimes, he invades dreams (especially women's) in order to help them out; sometimes he pleases women, sometimes he fights battles- it all depends. In these dreams, the guardians can create scenes, whether it's romantic, nostalgic, or just fun. Aiden and the others have been warned about "The Key"- a person who is able to control their dreams, see the Guardians' true identities, and have the power to open the Gateway where nightmares can come through.
Lyssa has always had a hard time going to sleep, especially after she realized the kinds of dreams she could have (when she was young). She knows somehow she's different; she's seen specialists and has taken medication in the past, but she's over doing this now. Then Aiden comes to her in her dream and it was HOOOOOOT🔥🔥🔥.
As soon as he invades her dream, the chemistry flares up. In dreams, Aiden can assume the identity of what women find pleasurable. When he appears, Aiden and Lyssa are intimate after they talk for a little bit- and it's because their connection is THAT instant😅- it's almost like they're meant to be together- and it's incredibly erotic and STEAMY🥵🔥! Even after he leaves, he’s put in a position to continue "pleasing" women, but he ends up calling for backup since he can't go through with it. Even when he knows he needs to stop pursuing her, he👏🏻just👏🏻can't! Eventually, her dreams come true, and he shows up at her house- in person- because he can't stop thinking/caring about her🥰.
It becomes evident quickly that Lyssa is "The Key" and it's troublesome because the Elders wanna destroy her, and at this point, Aiden wants her and cares for her. There are a lot of lies that have been told based on this "key" and what guardians are supposed to do- and it's Aiden's job to get some answers (and other people too- that's when we get introduced to Conor- the H is book 2).
Because this is told in the third-person, we get a lot of perspectives. There were so many characters mentioned that I found it hard to keep track of them all- but the writing is so well done that I didn't find myself feeling lost.

-OW: after the H and h have sex in her dreams, he continues doing his job as a guardian and has a naked woman in front of him (remember, he appears in people's dreams when they "call" for a man) but he can't do anything since he only wants the h, so he calls for a backup and decides that he can no longer do this part of his job- he'll stick to fighting instead💁🏻♀️
-cheating: Maybe😬? the h is in a relationship with OM but they're never intimate (they're pretty casual about it) and she ends up breaking up with him (after she's intimate with the H in her dreams😅)
She wasn't "physically" having sex with the H since it was in her dreams, but it FELT like it was real...
-mild OM drama (with the bf/ex but it doesn't cause any drama really)

I'm actually reading this book again for the second time before I start on the next book.
I love love loved reading this book again for the second time. I loved the way Aidan Cross simply adored Lyssa. They both had such a great connection and their sex scenes were hot. I found through out the book I was holding my breath through certain parts.
The first time I read this book it honestly took me by surprise with the whole dream sequences and such but as I got through it I just fell in love with how much these two just were awesome together and then when Aidan finally could stay away no longer he travelled to be with Lyssa. That would be every girls dreams come true for sure to have some tall dark handsome man of our dreams to turn up on our doorsteps and make love the way Aidan does. Hmmmmm a girl can only dream!!!

Unfortunately I abandoned this book at 33%, not because it was particularly bad - I just couldn't get into it, as much as I tried and tried it just didn't hook me in, I could have finished to the end but my days of having to read something, because I had to, are in my distant past and now I read only for pleasure, this was not a pleasure, which was so disappointing as other works by Sylvia Day I have thoroughly enjoyed.
Without giving too much away this is the story of a young woman (Lyssa), a vet, who has always had difficulty sleeping, her lack of sleep impacts on her day to day life and her health, countless medical consultations and investigations cannot pinpoint the reason, then she is visited by a "Guardian" (Aidan) who appears to be live in a parallel world to ours, he is a senior Guardian (a captain) whose job it is to slay the nightmares and bring peace to the dreamers, in this particular story (Lyssa), who isn't really a dreamer at all because she finds it difficult to sleep! Then there are the Elders who are searching for a "key", something that Aidan doesn't thinks exists, the Elders believe that Lyssa is the "key".
As you can guess from the title Aidan, who at the point I abandoned was not real and Lyssa, who receives visits from Aidan in her sleep, embark on a passionate love affair complete with graphic steamy scenes, as we have come to expect from Sylvia Day, which are very well written. However, for me it was just one of those books that I was just totally unable to gel with.

I rented this book in the audiobook format. I have to say, reading Sylvia Day's books is one thing, and hearing it is a completely different experience! Listening to this book allowed my imagination to dig deeper into the story and its characters. This is a very hot and steamy take on dreams and nightmares. It totally had me dreaming of my own Aidan Cross before I even made it to the end.
I won't give spoilers away though, because A) I don't want to ruin it for any one of you, and B) this book is already a pretty short one and I'd hate to take even one more tidbit of it from you.
A short synopsis: This main storyline is about the Guardians who live in the Twilight. Their Elite team fight against the nightmares that threaten to take over their world and harm the subconscious of us humans. Love is found along the way between a Guardian and a Dreamer (human). And of course, it won't be a Sylvia Day creation without some erotic lovemaking scenes.
Note: The story does not conclude after this book. And to be honest, it doesn't even conclude after the 2nd book in the series (Heat of the Night). However, if you want a light read that's sexy and unique, I recommend the books in the Dream Guardian Series. If you're worried about the conclusion to the main plot, there WILL be a 3rd book. I'm not sure when it will be released, but right now it's tentatively titled Rhythms of the Night. Maybe and hopefully we'll get the plot answers then.

Alright, so I'm not giving this a two star because there was no plot or because it was too confusing but because it felt more like the author needed an excuse to write any erotic story, hence the horrible scifi.
I pick up Sylvia Day because I want to read a good erotic story and forget the daily life for the time that I'm reading the book, not so much that I am looking for a sci-fi story. If I wanted to read sci-fi, there are so many other authors that I can pick up.
I read the author's Crossfire series and I really enjoyed them. There were so many interesting parts which were truly absorbing. However with this one, it didn't even have absorbing love making scenes. Full of jargons, detached characters, and absolutely asinine love scenes, it felt like the author was shy about sticking to her genre. At some point near the end of the book, there was a part that said something along the lines of "... And they said so many s** words to each other" while love making or something like this. Well even if the characters did whisper dirty talk to each other, this is the place for the author to put them, isn't this the book for it?

I thought this story had an interesting premise, and I have enjoyed other books by this author ("Bared to You"), so I started "Pleasures of the Night" but I just can't finish it.

I wouldn't blame Lyssa if she shut "the door," locked it, and threw away the key just so she didn't have to deal with all the weirdness.

I'm trying very hard not to DNF it...I'm finding it very slow going.
EDIT: Okay, so I ended up DNFing it, speed-reading through the second half to see if it would get any better. It didn't. I just didn't believe any of it: the plot, the characters, their motives.

I purchased this book from Half Priced Books to read. All opinions are my own. 🌟🌟🌟🌟 Pleasures of the Night by Syliva Day. Hard working Lyssa Bates is exhausted but sleep eludes her. One night in her dreams a man comes to her and he is absolute perfection. Everything a woman could dream of......once he realizes she can see exactly who he is he becomes afraid of disrupting his world and hers so he goes to her only in her world she has no idea who he is only that he seems familiar. It doesnt take long for him to tell her an unimaginable story that puts both of their lives in jeopardy. The sex is so good neither of them want to part and both is willing to die to save the other. I don’t know how to start this review... Because while I loved this book I also felt it was lacking. But I also don’t know what it was lacking. I’m a freaking mess about this book right now.
I listened to the audio of this book. So I’m thinking that is why I’m having such trouble. I wish this was written in first person because maybe that’d have made it easier to follow along with the audio version? I don’t know.
Anywho, I was ridiculously interested in this series when I read the synopsis. I mean a world that thrives and survives on erotic dreams?! Count me tf in! There was so much smut in this book. My gosh! It was like dying and going to erotic book heaven! Fuck yes. But seriously, the smut was what attracted me to this book. And the fact that it was available for free through my library.
Lyssa and Aiden’s story had enough going for it to keep me intrigued. The smut was a huge deciding factor of that. Because I am still so confused about wtf is actually going on in this book. And what makes it even more confusing is the fact that the next book is told in Conner’s POV?! WHAT! I feel like Lyssa and Aiden’s story isn’t finished?! Especially with figuring out what she is and what she can do. Like how do you end a book like the way this one ended and then switch the fucking MCs in the next book?!
I don’t know what is happening. And I’m so terribly confused. And I’m awfully upset this wasn’t a finished series. So I’m not sure if I’ll continue on with this series for the simple fact that at the end of the second book it’s gonna be wide tf open and I won’t get the closure of a finale book. 😩

I really enjoyed this book. I would say that the main focus is on the Hero and Heroine, Aiden and Lyssa (who are amazing by the way). There is a good storyline that runs throughout, which I am looking forward to learning more about.
One reason I didn't rate this book higher is because it was (in some parts) very confusing. The information we are learning about their world is thrown at you quite quickly and isn't explained very well. I for one don't know a lot about the dream world and the subconcious, so I was rather lost in the beginning. The scenes also switch around a lot without warning. You're reading about one person, then all of a sudden you're reading about some one else who's in another place. I would have to go back a page and find out where the scene switched over.
On a lighter note, I absolutely loved Aiden Cross. An Elite soldiers who uses sexual pleasure on women who are in their dream state to steer them away from the Nightmares that would drain their spirit and eventually kill them. We see quickly that he is not fulfilled in his life, he wants more for himself, someone who sees the real him and who will love him with as much passion as he loves them.
The sex scenes in this book (and there was a shed load of it) were fantastic and some were just beautiful.
I would deffinately recommend this book to people who like a quick and easy read (if you don't mind getting a little lost when it comes to the plot).

This one by Sylvia Day I found quite interesting. Although erotic and quite steamy, it also had the supernatural element to it. Lyssa meets Captain Aidan Cross in her dreams, because that is where he protects her. He is a dream guardian protecting her from the nightmares, but she seems to be able to control the dream world surprisingly well for a human. When when the two meet in her dreams their attraction is so strong, neither are able to overcome their feelings; it's hot. Wanting Aidan to be in her true reality, and Aidan wanting to protect Lyssa from his world that thinks she is a key that must be destroyed... the two begin a brief relationship that only leaves them desperate for more.
This series definitely has an interesting premise. Plenty of lust, but maybe not enough details on the dream world to really grasp what was going on. The characters are great and very emotional and you can easily get lost in the story. The sequels seem to be told from other characters so that also might be fun, however, I am not rushing to finish the series... I suppose that is the most telling. It was good, but I will go read other things first before buying others in this series. If you are new to Sylvia Day, I suggest start with her historical romances and the Crossfire series first. Those I couldn't put down, and desperately wanted sequels.

2.5 stars / I can't decide whether I liked this book or not. Not that I hold the same expectations for romance novels as I do other fiction... but it just didn't impress me. The premise had potential, but the execution fell short.
As expected, since this is a romance novel, the vast majority of the story is basically smut, which I will admit is tolerably well written, if still ridiculous. But when the plot is actually addressed, it's either weak and flimsy or disjointed and missing relevant details. Which is seriously disappointing when the premise was actually kind of intriguing.
Beyond that, the relationship between the main characters is absolutely ludicrous. I get that romance novels often verge on the ridiculous and that's part of the allure and the escapism of it. But when characters start ignoring things that realistically would be massive red flags... like admitting a complete stranger into their home... and then immediately get into bed with them... it gets a little difficult to suspend disbelief.
Also, and this may be the biggest crime of all, but considering the main male character is supposed to have an Irish brogue, there is *flagrant* overuse of the term "hot stuff". At some point the main female character says to him, "you say the corniest shit, but it never sounds corny coming from you." Um, no. Trust me. It still sounds corny.

This is the first in a series. The second book is coming out in 2008. It was pretty good for paranormal, but I prefer other paranormal worlds. This is about humans having dreams. While dreaming, guardians join them in the dreams. The guardians are aliens who live on another plane and fight off nightmares from hurting humans. Aiden is a guardian who falls in love with Lyssa a human and he crosses over to the earth world. She also crosses to the dream world to help him. In typical Sylvia Day fashion, the sex scenes were excellent, but I'm not that crazy about this particular paranormal plot. Also, there were too many unanswered questions at the end. Aiden's answer is "We'll take it one day at a time until we figure it out." I'm wondering if the second book may have some answers.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book and read it in one day. It is hot hot HOT! The sex is amazing. I will say that I connected so with the emotional aspects brought out during sex between the two main characters too...a couple of scenes had me crying they were so touching. But most were hot. I also loved the theme of this book dealing with our dream world and supernatural beings involved therein. Very original storyline to me anyway. LOL I do wish that there had been a bit more background into the whole Guardian story. I got to the end of the book and learned they could hover/fly and was like what? This is something I should have been told in the beginning! Also the fact that they are aliens seemed to totally be glossed over when I think that is a pretty big part of the back story! I was also disappointed in the ending. Not how it ended but the telling of it. It was WAY to fast and tidy and left many more questions than answered. I will read all the others in this series though and look forward to them, but I do hope they provide some more history into the Guardians world.

Vacation read. Picked because it was cheap on Barnes and Noble for my Nook. Curious because this has been recommended (by librarians at a conference even) as a far better example of erotica than 50 Shades of Blah. I would disagree. It was a tad bit better. After several steamy scenes between the two main charactes, I couldn't quite figure out what was bugging me so much about the book. Then I read one of those scenes aloud to my husband. Through the tears (of laughter) streaming from my eyes afterwards, I saw clearly that this book is not very well-written and that hot, erotic relationships should not make a couple on vacation laugh out loud so much.

I am not too sure what I thought of this book. I enjoyed "Bared to You" but I didn't find I liked this book as much. I think part of it was that I am not usually into the "fantasy type story" if that makes sense ( not that I think Bared to You took place or anything lol ) and I found it hard to get into. It was a good read to keep me busy while I waited for my newest shipment of books.

Started out ok, the characters were good, Aiden was adorable, the sex scenes were pretty hot, dirty talking was nice but it got repeatative and boring real quickly.

If you’re one of those romance readers who want to skip to the good parts, this might be the book for you. I was, quite frankly, surprised at the amount of plot and world-building the author was able to get across, since about 75% of the book is devoted to the two main characters, Lyssa and Aidan, banging away at each other.
I don’t generally read romance, and when I do, I tend to stick with historicals, so this paranormal romance was something new for me.
Lyssa is a veterinarian who has always had trouble sleeping. In her dreams, she meets Aidan, a guardian tasked with protecting sleepers from nightmares. Of course, there’s something special about Lyssa—Aidan thinks she might be the legendary key with the power to let the nightmares into the human world. And it’s his mission to kill her.

Ok, so I'm a fan of adult fiction / romance, and it's been a while since I've read any - and this is my first time reading a book by Sylvia Day. She did not disappoint. A quick easy read, this storyline had a fantasy element which was great too. So now I've finished this, I'm off to read the second book in the series 😎.
