There was serious fluffy LOVE in here mixed with mystery and suspense I think it could be a series I'm so greedy to ask but Rachel needs a story an now Cessa
has a man so why not?
Yes it was a good as I thought it would be. The characters were rich, well written, and most important to me believable. There was an element of mystery with the main character Dr. Judith who was Dr. Makenzie Holder. We find out why she is hiding in Texas and who she is hiding from. Being there is really a good plot, the sub plot turns out almost as good. When you meet a few love interests for Mak, there is a light feeling. She sort of decides that dating may be next on her agenda. She really keeps to herself and doesn't venture far. There is a routine she has to make herself feel secure. I enjoyed the dating part and then the troubles start.
The author takes you through a secret communicating mode for Mak and the FBI. What a story! I totally loved the way it was believable. I think the mystery element was given out in healthy doses. More importantly was the romance. When Detective Ryler Buchanan first meets her he thinks that he is in charge. HA! Laughably Mak tells him that it is her E.R. and she is the Doctor in charge. He shuts right up and leaves with his tail between his legs. She is so passionate about her patients that she needs to put them before the cops.
So there is more than a few reasons to read this. If you love romantic suspense with the FBI, a gorgeous detective and a strong family this is for you. Jump in and see what happens as the hired hit-man attempts to finish the job.

All alone, she misses her family, living in constant fear that her ex will find her. With her job and her life, she feels like she's always chasing air.
Then she met two very attractive men who wants her, Detective Ryler Buchanan and millionaire developer, Jonathan Bain. While she knew that any involvement with an officer was a huge risk, she couldn't explain her attraction to him, he is like a drug to her and she couldn’t say no to. While Jonathan is the safer bet and she find him attractive, her thoughts kept coming back to Ryler. Would fear kept her locked into her old life forever?
I love Mak, she's a survivor and she's done running and wants to finally live her life. I thought it was tough choosing between Jonathan and Ryler, but you can't help but love Ryler more.
It's light, romantic, suspenseful and an easy read.

Just when life is going great, you love someone, then the past comes crashing down. It’s time to fight for what you want, no more hiding.
I absolutely adored this book! It was so moved with the amount of emotions that each character felt. I love Ms. Roberts writing style and how she was able to captivate, enthrall my attention to the point that I lost a couple of hours of sleep but believe me it was so worth it. This is a beautiful stand alone book about a woman hiding from a horrible man that happens to be her husband. He put a hit on her and her only way out is by faking her death. It’s about living a life without being able contact those you love for fear of what will happen to them. Fear of actually starting a life because who knows if you will have to run again, that is just no way to live.
Dr. Makenzie Holder is a beautiful woman who has been parted from her family. Now she is living just North of Dallas, Texas and is an amazing doctor who just got a promotion. Only that promotion came with consequences, it means getting her picture taken for the hospital website. If Drew were to find her, her life would be over.
Finally Makenzie is having some fun. She meets a wonderful man by the name of Jonathan Bain and she agreed to go have some fun with a group of his friends. They all went out to dinner and some dancing and that is when she gets her first kiss in a really long time. Jonathan didn’t leave anything to the imagination with that passionate kiss. He wants more but is he truly the one for her?

Then there is Detective Ryler Buchanan and the way that their dinner started off was not good at all. He was already having his suspicions about her and she confirmed it when he tried stopping her from leaving. The connection that Makenzie has with Ryler is off the charts and I thought their date was the best. Having dinner out on the patio with soft music and who could forget the coconut cream pie or the sweetest part the kiss on her boo-boo. Now he is the luckiest man of all she stayed in his home but nothing happened but believe me if it did I would not blame her.
“This is to share with your staff. I have some waiting at
home for you to share with only me. Giving you the last
bite is like giving you my last breath and to taste it on
your lips is like tasting heaven.”

Makenzie felt a pull to Ryler since the first time they met but she knows that she can’t develop a relationship with him. He might investigate her past and that is something she can’t afford.
Jonathan fell head over heals with Makenzie and they have a wonderful time together. There dates are beautiful and she was able to meet his son. They truly had chemistry between them. Only there is something about him that did not sit well with me, the tone of his voice or maybe it was the jealously.
Makenzie has to go back where her life ended and there was no way out of it. Now that was a sobbing frenzy for me, the tears would not stop when something amazing happens to her. She has no idea of the danger she is in because of Ryler’s internet investigating but this time she will not run, she will do everything in her power to take over her life.
Chasing Air was a total page turner for me. It captivated me from the very beginning till the very end. There was never a dull moment and the surprises never stopped. There were some very small errors in the book but something that did not take away from the story at all. The characters were well developed and this story actually seemed real. I was able to connect with the characters and I totally felt for Makenzie. The amount of pain that she suffered in not being able to be with her family was gut-wrenching. I loved how the relationship between her and the man she selected to be her everything developed. I loved when Makenzie was able play around with him, how they laughed and the banter between them seemed so natural. He chanllenged her in her fears and believe me she totally loved it. It was something that was meant to be if only his past would let them be happy. Oh and how could I forget they get an instant family with Daisy. She is an adorable little pup that loves to play hide and seek with Makenzie.
The love scenes are scorching hot and beautifully written. They were full of life and feeling. I loved how Makenzie was able to lose herself in his arms. I loved how he made her feel alive, loved. The feelings that he had for Makenzie were true and I knew that he would never let anyone harm her.
This is definitely one of the books that I will be leaving in my library to reread again. Chasing Air is an impressive story that is brilliantly written with a wonderful happily ever after. I could truly see some possibilities for some of these characters to having their own story. I would love to know what happened between Rachel and Brody. *Just a thought* Pick this book up today, believe me you will not regret it.

Dr. Makenzie Holder has been working in the ER Trauma Unit for the last six months, trying to keep a low profile she opted to work the night shift. Her life consists of work, and trying to stay safe, because of someone from her past that she is running from. Someone so dangerous that she found herself placed in the FBI Witness protection plan, forced to give up her true identity along with her family to stay safe,with all this turmoil in her life that last thing she wants or needs is a romantic relationship. When she finds herself butting heads with Detective Ryler Buchanan,over one of her patients sparks fly, and Ryler is instantly attracted to Mak, she knows though that there is no way she could ever become involved with a detective, but that doesn't stop Ryler. When Mak meets Jonathan Bain, she decides to take him up on his offer of a date. Will Mak finally be able to set aside her past and find happiness with Jonathan or will she realize that Ryler is the one for her?
"Chasing Air" really has it all, there is suspense, mystery, drama, along with a heart melting romance that knocked my socks off! I found myself totally drawn in with the story of Makenzie especially as the author peels away the layers of her past. Haunted by her past is really an understatement, there was truly a fear of her past, not only for her, but for the family she left behind as well. Ms. Roberts certainly captures the essence of Mak, allowing the reader to feel her compassion for people, especially those who dealt with domestic violence, not only because she had been in their shoes but because she was a kind compassionate person. Ms. Roberts handled the issue of domestic violence with care and compassion, but also portrays the victims as strong and provides the message that it is never the victims fault, truly a fantastic message that women need to hear! The male leads were total opposites and the author kept me wondering for a while just who Mak might wind up with. There were several heart pounding suspense filled moments, but also some heart melting, toe curling romantic moments as well. Daisy was such a cute character and had me laughing out loud more than a few times. Overall, a fast paced, page turning read where the author doesn't wind up the story when the bad guy is taken care of, instead just like in real life she allows for life to go on, and takes the reader on that journey as well. "Chasing Air" is a must read for anyone who enjoys a multi-layered story that is filled with strong characters, a unique storyline and a fantabulous romance that just might have the reader believing in second chances!

I received an ARC copy for an honest review.
I have to say this was a great read. There was romance but it wasn’t overdone. It was light and sweet. We don’t always need that erotica to love or like a book.
Chasing Air we get to know Mackenzie who is running from a past that she just can’t seem to get over. She is fearful that at any minute someone will come and get her. So much so that she had training with the FBI and is in witness protection. That is all I am saying on that part.
We also meet Johnathon and Ryler. Both hot, finely built men who have feelings for Makenzie. Makenzie really wasn’t looking for a relationship, she didn’t want to commit and then have to leave in a minutes notice. Both Johnathon and Ryler try to win her over.
Both men take her out on dates that are so freaking amazing she wonders what she has done to have 2 men wanting her at the same time. But while she is with 1 she is thinking of the other. When she is with the other there is nothing more in the world she would like more than to be wrapped up into his arms. Makenzie learns about Ryler and Johnathon. Ryler being the detective that he is has done a little digging himself. There are things that Makenzie ignores and tries to change the subject. He just doesn’t understand why she does this. Johnathon he is more of the lets go out on a date and then head home and make love type of person. Don’t get me wrong, that is fine. But with a background like Makenzie’s you can’t let your guard down so quickly. Johnathon finds out that Makenzie has been talking to Ryler and this upsets Makenzie. She was going to pick Johnathon but now things have changed. She can’t be in a relationship like she had before.
There was humor, the banter between Ryler and Makenzie was great. Ryler seemed to get Makenzie the minute he met her. They fell in love at first sight but Ryler wanted Makenzie to come to him when she was ready. It seemed like a babysitting case sometimes. I mean Ryler knew how to handle certain situations because of his profession. I get that. But the way he wanted Makenzie to do things to show that she wanted him and loved him just was a little off to me. I liked the book. There was drama, romance, and action. All those make a great book. We are not all going to like the same books. Would I recommend this book? Yes I would.

This novel tells the story of two talented and damaged people trying to move on with their lives. Makenzie (Mak) Holder is a Emergency Medicine physician, due to be named chief. She loves her job, despite the exhausting work of trying to save lives, which is often a heartbreak. Senseless murders and accidents really tear at her soul. She feels like she is "Chasing Air."
Mak moved to Texas 9 mos ago to escape her Mafia husband by staging her own death. She was helped by the U. S. Marshall Service, and is now in very deep cover under witness protection. She is not allowed contact with any family members, and they believe she a dead.
Detective Ryler Buchanan believes in his career and works very hard to catch the "bad guys." He meets Dr. Holder after a senseless drive by shooting, that puts a young girl in her trauma room. He intrudes on a conversation she is having with the parents, she is trying to be compassionate, he is trying to get information to start working the case. Their first meeting is an angry one. Two passionate people working toward the same ending, but taking different routes. But, the attraction is there. Neither have interest in a relationship. Ryler is divorced, and has lost his belief in love. Somehow, these two people manage a friendship. Mak runs into a very tall, dark and gorgeous man called Jonathan Bain at her condo's pool. He immediately makes his interest in Mak known. She is a bit dazzled with the wining and dining, but something is disturbing about his behavior.
I fell in love with this novel when I saw the cover. A side look at a very beautiful woman in an amazing copper color dress. She is gazing off into space with a look of hope in her eyes. This novel does have hope, danger, violence and a beautiful love story. At times it seems this couple can never surrender there hearts. This is a romance, they find a way.
I have read Ms. Roberts other novels, and this one is also well worth a read.

Dr. Makenzie (Mak) Holder enjoys her job in emergency medicine and tries to do her best. As she is talking with the family of an accident victim she is interrupted by two Detectives asking some ill-timed questions. She quickly puts them in their place, and earns an apology from Detective Ryler Buchanan. When Ryler and Mak meet again the sparks seem to fly, but because of a secret that Mak must keep, she is nervous to start something romantic with Ry. Ry is a patient man when knows what he wants, he is also a detective so doing a little checking on why Mak is so vague about her past won’t do any harm, or will it?
I like strong female characters in books and Mak is one of them. The way she put Ry in his place that first time she met him was priceless. She has really taken charge of her safety and I felt her longing for parts of her old life. Her sense of freedom is something she does not take for granted, and after this book I have a new appreciation for people in Mak’s situation. I did have to laugh at how her social life went from none to too much so quickly, but she handled it with class. Ryler, I just ached for him at times. He is almost the perfect hero for me, he has a great romantic side while quiet able to take care of his lady love.
Not only do we have a great hero and heroine but we have a great cast of supporting characters as well. I particularly love Rachel, Mak’s newest friend. And fans of DeLaine Roberts will recognize a character from the Running series. This book flowed so well that I was convinced it was the first in a series. Well thanks to lots of fan response I think it just might be.

Not only do we have a great hero and heroine but we have a great cast of supporting characters as well. I particularly love Rachel, Mak’s newest friend. And fans of DeLaine Roberts will recognize a character from the Running series. This book flowed so well that I was convinced it was the first in a series. Well thanks to lots of fan response I think it just might be.

DeLaine Roberts books are so amazing, I have loved everyone of her books, her Running series is awesome and so I was really excited when I got the chance to read her new book Chasing Air.
Chasing Air is the story of Dr. Makenzie Holder, she has had to start her life all over, away from her family, she have to think she is dead, away from the hospital that she worked so hard to get a job at, and finally the best thing away from her husband that she never wants to see again.
Starting her life over in Dallas is a lot different then living in NYC. but she is loving working in the ER their and gotten a job that she has always wanted. she is happy living in her safe world, but when she starts to make some friends and letting her guard down a little she is taken aback by some of the things she is forgetting to do.
Jonathan is a sexy millionaire, he is everything that Mak should want in a guy, but she is torn, because she has also met a sexy, good looking detective that makes her heart skip a beat. plus his mom makes the best pie. she really doesn't know what she should do, but when push comes to shove and she knows that she can't be with Jonathan because her heart already belongs to someone else.
Ryler is the type of man that wants to take care of his woman, but he knows that if she doesn't choose him then he can't force her into something just because he wants it to happen, sometimes you have to let the thing that you love the most go to get it to come back to you forever. Ryler knows that he is in love with Mak.. but when he goes digging for more information about her he opens something that he really doesn't know about.
I really loved this story, Ryler was someone I wish I had for myself.

I liked Mackenzie, she's a strong character, and I admired her. I'm not sure this book is quite what I expected given the reference to her mafia ex husband, I think I thought it would be more focused on that than it was, but in enjoyed the fact that as one crisis appeared to be resolved another took its place.
I was surprised when she agreed to date both men at the same time, having been so careful to stay by herself, and was secretly in the Ryler corner, I just felt Jonathan was a bit too much.
Having expected a gritty mafia novel I found this to be much more of a traditional romance, granted there were side story lines in the book, and I was pleased with how much more of the story the author told when all the crises were resolved, too often I'm left wanting more from a book, this one finished things off nicely for me.
I do wonder if there will be other books referencing Rachel and Brody, I'd like to see how their story works out.
I think the only thing I wasn't keen on was carrying the dog around everywhere they seemed to go, but then I'm not a small dog fan, I prefer larger breeds, and small dog didn't really fit either of the characters for me.
I think the book handled the trauma of the E.R department well, as well as the abuse suffered by Rachel, they were both handled with sensitivity, although neither were the main focus of the book.
It was an entertaining read and I look forward to other books by the author.

This was my first book from DeLaine Roberts and with a beautiful cover like this I was hoping for great things and I was not disappointed. It was a quick, enjoyable read with just enough suspense and turmoil to keep you engaged right till the end.
Trying to escape her past as Judith Donati, Dr. Mackenzie (Mac) Holder is trying to maintain a low profile and stay off the radar. But that’s exactly where she finds herself.
While working a trauma case in the ER, Mac meets Detective Rylar Buchanan. They get off to a rocky start but Rylar is intrigued by Mac and has decided to keep his eye on her.
But Rylar wasn’t the only one vying for Mac’s attention. I was not a fan of Jonathan from the start and was glad to see that Mac followed her instincts and her heart where he was concerned.
Mac and Rylar were very likeable characters. They both had their own set of issues but I was praying that they would find a way to be together. Who knew that the way to a girl’s heart was through her stomach. But Mac’s sweet tooth has her more than a little sweet on Rylar.
So, when past threatens to ruin Mac’s future, will she be willing to take the necessary steps? Go grab this book and enjoy a great read. I will definitely be picking up more works from this author.

“Chasing Air” is a steamy romance with plenty of suspense and intrigue to keep the reader on their toes. DeLaine Roberts has created a masterpiece for the romance genre. The reader feels each heartbeat and each catch of the breath as Makenzie struggles through the challenges of rebuilding a new life while the former one still lurks in the shadows behind her. For those who love romance with a twist, you simply can’t go wrong with “Chasing Air”. Suspenseful, sizzling and real; DeLaine Roberts will keep you on your toes, and looking over your shoulder, while you fall in love.

This is a must read. The book brought me right into the world of ER Dr. Mak Holder and into trying to start her new personal life. She is such a caring person, not afraid of showing her own emotions except with the men in her personal life. With the man that she chooses, they both have to overcome their tragic pasts, so their lives can go on.
This is a great book that will keep you reading late into the night. I love coconut cream pies and Daisy.

The storyline itself felt dragged out to the point that I lost all interest about 1/3 of the way through, however the personal relationships between the characters progressed to the point of obsessive love very quickly. Something that drives me nuts when reading a mixed POV book is when those perspectives don't have a smooth transition. This was the case in CHASING AIR, as the entire book volleyed back and forth, not only between Mak and Ryler, but also every one of the secondary characters, sometimes 2 to 3 in a single paragraph.
While I found the dialogue and storyline lacking any excitement or natural flow, I did like that the author had multiple love interest possibilities for Mackenzie, including her landlord Jonathan. I personally would've enjoyed seeing her continue to date both guys together, but that's my love of ménage speaking. The sex scenes were sweetly sensual without being gratuitous. I was lucky to win a signed copy (by the author DeLaine Roberts and the beautiful cover model Alexia Morrison) of Chasing Air.
What I thought:
I never really connected with Makenzie or Ryler. That being said, I did like Makenzie, how strong she was portrayed and how devoted she was to her job. The plot had a lot of potential but in my opinion, but sadly the focus was on the romance and while I picked up this book execting romance(and wanting romance!) I still expected a developped story. Everything felt a little rushed when it came to the romance. I prefer when romance happens slowly and sadly this wasn't the case in this book. After only a few days(I don't know for sure but it felt like only a few days/weeks went by), when they barely knew each other they were already making promises to each other and talking marriage and babies.
Also, there were about 10 mentions of the ''attraction'' in the air when Makenzie and Ryler met and it got ''old'' very fast. I also didn't like how two guys felt ''hard'' for Makenzie so fast and easily. Again, it felt rushed and a litte over the top. They both barely knew her. I guess she must look like Scarlet Johanson or Bar Refaeli...
Overall, Chasing Air was a nice traditional romance, I just wish the romance wouldn't have taken over the plot and that the building up of the romance would have been slower.

DeLaine Roberts is a master storyteller who intermingles realistic romance with suspense and mystery. I find it admiring the way the author portrayed the main character, Dr. Makenzie Holder, as not only beautiful, heroic, and strong – but also frightened, guarded, and sometimes self-doubting. She’s spent years on the run, and has now managed to finally run right into the arms of Detective Ryler Buchanan. He just happens to be handsome, hunky, and patient. He also gives Mak a reason to stand up and fight for her life, to finally quit running.
The romance is present and the steam level is hot, hot, hot! DeLaine Roberts never leaves us lacking in that department! There are a few side characters I’d love to see a spinoff, like Brody and Rachel. And I can’t tell you how much I absolutely adored reading the name Cooper Roberts!
The title Chasing Air was beautifully explained and made me get the warm and fuzzies at the end!

I love a good "woman on the run" story line and was excited when I was able to pick this book up a while ago for free since it had been on my TBR list. Unfortunately, the writing just didn't work for me. I'm actually surprised to see such a high rating. The premise of the book, I liked. Woman on the run, mysterious past, a possible love triangle with a hot detective and a rich and sexy businessman... but I just couldn't get over the writing. The story felt very disconnected, even paragraph to paragragh. At some points, it seems like whole chunks of events were skipped over. The transitions were non-existent or just bad. I decided to cut my losses and move on to something else.

I really enjoyed this book. At times I felt as though certain aspects were rushed a bit and maybe could have been left out or should have been more developed (like the johnathon/mak thing) but that really didn't take much away from the story.
I found the love scenes quite enjoyable. So many writers are going the more erotic route. It was nice to see romance. It also did not have fluffy/cheesy romance which I hate. It was just a beautiful love affair.
I would recommend this to those interested in reading a good romantic story intertwined with a bit of mystery.

I tried really hard to enjoy this book. It was OK, I never really connected with Mak or Ryler. It felt rushed and unfinished. The plot is great but the author took me to a different place than I thought we would go and I didn't enjoy it much. I kept reading thinking it would get there, and it just didn't. There is an HEA and it is not a cliffhanger. Many others read this book and really enjoyed it. I think for me I just never believed that the love that Mak and Ryler had was real.

Sorry, just not very well written. The characters and story initially looked interesting but the writing was so stilted and amateurish that I could barely finish.
I read the numerous, positive reviews and had to wonder if we were reading the same book. They even made me question my reaction, but nope, it was still a really bad read!

This book is romantic suspense. The ER doctor is enjoying her job, but she has a secret past. She is trying to keep in the shadows because she is a victim of domestic abuse. Two men are very interested in her and she is sort of interested in both of them, for different reasons. The romance is tastefully done. There is some violence as her ex-husband is trying to find her.

it was not all bad but it could have been better. Too much sex at the end. When Mak and Ry first declared love...it was special until it happened every other page. Just seems like their relationship was too fast.
