I was skeptical at first about this book and this method for Family Therapy. The main question I asked myself was "why would any one in therapy subject themselves to original family in the therapy sessions with them?" As I progressed through the book and learned about the rules, the do's and don'ts of this technique I became convinced that there are cases that might benefit from this technique. If there are deep seated unresolved issues between any individual and family of origin, those issues will play out in future life, specifically in any future relationships. This can be in the form of projection, control of a significant other, attachment problems due to fear of abandonment(i.e. an overly clingy significant other) etc. The important takeaways for me are: 1) be sure to find a competent and seasoned therapist. 2) be sure that you, as the client, are ready for this. This should never be pushed upon you until you feel comfortable with this. 3) Many times if there is a couple going through couples therapy a family of origin session usually does not include the significant other. 4) This technique will not work if all involved are not willing to lay all the cards out on the table. There should be no conspiratorial attitude in the session, no ganging up on a particular individual. 5) Expect there to be changes. Those changes may not be noticed immediately, but change will happen. We may not like the change that happens, but the important thing is being able to come to a final resolution and accepting the outcome. If you never felt loved by a parent, hopefully that will change, but it may not and be ready for that reality. I'm sure there are more things I could say, but if you're curious pick the book up and give it a read.

Interesting approach to family-based therapy, though you'll probably only enjoy it if you already study the field.
