Brooke Stewart, a realtor in New York, is sure of one thing: she will never surrender her heart fully to the green-eyed, sexy as sin, six foot two sex god that she calls her boss.
Jett Mayfield is dangerously sexy, but more than that he attracts trouble. Avoiding him has never been an option. The night he hooks up with Brooke, he aims to keep her in his bed, but more than that, he aims to make her his.
When he sweeps her away for one weekend, she has no idea that some rules are bound to be broken, and that his dark secrets will impact her life in a way she never imagined. Too late she realizes that she has fallen for a man she should never have been involved with in the first place. And that one weekend will change everything. Will it be too late to run or will the truth allow them to heal?
A woman who can't trust easily A man who has too many secrets Two lives that are about to be destroyed
Book 1 in the No Exceptions series. Full length novel. This book contains adult themes. 18+ No Exceptions is a standalone series.
There was something calming about the snowflakes falling from the sky—an assurance that life would go on, no matter what happened; an assurance that I wasn’t so different from others. Somewhere, somehow, someone had suffered just like me, and they had survived. That someone was proof that with each day, each year, my memories would weaken and gradually become a distant fragment of the past. I needed that hope.
Meet Brooke and Jett:
My brain is numb. It had me hooked from the first page, rooting for Brooke and her dreams throughout it. It made me smile, laugh and cry (and I'm not a crier). There were so many feelings. A book that can do that to me deserves 5 freaking Jett stars.
"I don’t think you understand, Brooke. I’d kill for you and our kid. Being without you for so long, living with that fear of not seeing you again, taught me that nothing’s more important"
This book is amazing. Right from the beginning I was sucked into the story and couldn't put it down! Well written, easy to follow, I was hooked.
Brooke Stewart works as a realtor project manager and her boss is no other than Jett Mayfield, the man she has fallen in love with. Theirs is a wild and playful relationship. Their chemistry is amazing. The sex is hot. And passionate. And the emotions feel real.
And wowza, Jett. Major craving factor.
Jett Mayfield is pure alpha. He is used to get what he wants. Deep down he cares for Brooke. At least I think he does. When she is faced with his secrets, their relationship is on ice. Wow. What a surprise.
I loved Brooke's character. I adored her and the way she was struggling with fear and her mistrust with people, including the people she loves.
You’ve taught me what it means to love, but life’s shown me how easy it is to lose it all in the blink of an eye. That scar might fade over time, but it’ll never go away.
Just when she thinks she can move on from her past, she is faced with the reality. And wow, what a reality.
I recommend this book to everyone! I had such a particular feeling of foreboding throughout it, and I wasn't proven wrong. Now I can't wait to see how their relationship continues in the next book.
Thanks for providing me with an AR copy for an honest review. I'm waiting on pins and needles.
Talking challenges fate. It attracts disaster and causes chaos to unfold.
Brooke and Jett had their happily ever after. Or so all of us thought...
In this game-changing sequel series, our hot couple reveal even more secrets, insecurities and enemies that threaten their apparently fragile relationship and their unborn child. Huge trust issues and their inability to communicate their thoughts, while ALWAYS second-guessing their actions really frustrated and distracted me from their beautiful and sensual chemistry.
As other reviewers I am a little hesitant to applause these sequel novels. I am surprised that we are getting more of Brooke and Jett and I admit I had said my goodbyes to them. I want to see what J.C. Reed has in her mind for these two.
ARC courtesy of the author, J.C. Reed, in exchange for an honest review.
First off, I'm not sure what the point of the story was suppose to be about. No backgrounds were really discussed to say why Brooke was so jumpy and not willing to trust anybody. Brooke and Jett are roll playing most of the book, trying to keep the spice in their relationship, and then all of sudden, she finds out he's been lying to her and says she's done. I don't get it. For the first book in a series, it doesn't have much background to why Brooke is the way she is. I'm thinking the trilogy before is required to understand what is going on with these characters. That should have been mentioned in the description of the book. Sorry, it was a no go for me.
I'm so in love with the characters of the Surrender your love series. I just can't wait to read more about them. About Jett and Brooke. I have a feeling this will be as great. Oh Jett,
One of the most interesting things in life was the certainty that nothing would ever remain dull for too long; sooner or later, the unpredictable happened. The trick was standing aside long enough, watching how a set of things and people came together in random patterns that weren't really so random at all, and witnessing how that collision resulted in a burst of new experiences for everyone involved. Good or bad, those experiences brought failure or winning a new meaning.
This is a new series that takes place after the Surrender Your Love trilogy. Jett and Brooke are exploring their relationship. They are a couple trying out some new experiences and pushing boundaries in what should be a safe, controlled environment. Their chemistry, connection, and feelings are strong. They have come through a lot but seem to be in a good place.
Jett is sexy, commanding, wealthy, confidant, and likes control. He is pure alpha. He wants what he wants when he wants it. But underneath his tough facade, he is also vulnerable especially when it comes to Brooke. He tries to keep assuring Brooke that they have a future. But he is also a man not used to answering to anyone and also very protective. So he is still a bit of an enigma and his mysterious nature still lurks.
"....you're the risk I'll always take."
Brooke is less confidant. She is still suffering the scars of her past, worries, and still has trust issues. The thought of being betrayed or hurt again practically paralyzes her at times. She is still closed off at times and puts up barriers. She contradicts herself about wanting to plan a future, but also terrified to trust in it. And her deep seated fears cause her not to fully trust Jett still. And she has always had a tendency to be what I call a runner or at least avoid things that might feel too difficult.
As perfect as he had seemed at first glance--sweet in words, gentle in actions, and sexy as hell--I shouldn't and wouldn't forget the fact that I had always sensed something dark lurking inside him. It was a side I had always been afraid to confront or face.
These two can be fun, flirty, sexy, passionate, and sweet. But they also both still have baggage weighing them down. Their pasts affect them and at times place shadows of doubt.
"I'm overcautious, and he's overprotective. What a perfect combination."
When small inconsistencies and strange things begin to occur and mysteries deepen, trust is tested. Will Brooke be able to ignore her insecurities and let herself be happy with Jett? And is Jett worthy of trust and a man that can truly be counted on for the long haul?
I have to say I was not where JC Reed was going to take Jett and Brooke after the end of the Surrender Your Love Trilogy. But she has thrown them into situations that are primed for pain, betrayal, misunderstandings, and manipulation. There is a sense of foreshadowing through it that kept me on edge. Secrets and possible lies can be destructive just by their assumed presence. Things aren't always what they seem...well at least I hope not. I found myself frustrated with Brooke's insecurities and fears, but then also annoyed with Jett's mysterious behavior as well. I wanted to toss my kindle or grab the two of them and lock them in a room at times. It had me all tied up in knots. They are heading into some dicey territory and neither is showing all of their cards. There is also an element of intrigue, mystery and suspense lurking along with those past demons that just won't die.
Even though this can technically be read as a stand alone series, I feel like you have a much better feel for the characters and all they have gone through if you read it after the Surrender Your Love trilogy. I know it made me much more invested in them from the start and made the issues more significant because I know what had transpired with them before and what was at stake.
By the time it ended, I was completely enthralled and not ready for it to be over. And now I am totally intrigued and eagerly awaiting part two: The Lover's Game. Can't wait to see where this is going!
☆ I received an ARC from the author in exchange for an honest review. Thank you SO MUCH hun!! ☆
3.5 stars!!
My thoughts before reading this:
I’ll be the first to admit that I have not read any of J.C. Reed’s work *ducks head* before reading The Lover’s Secret and judging from what I’ve observed, I think it would have served me better if I had read the Surrender Your Love series before reading TLS. You can still essentially read this as a standalone, but I think it would have helped with my understanding and sympathizing with the characters and their plights a little bit more if I had read SYL hence before.
And my feelings after reading:
The Lover’s Secret had an edgy, sensual, and mysterious vibe along with some trust and deceit issues interweaved from both Jett and Brooke.
They are very in love but when unexplained wedges start to make their way in to the mix, tensions begin and Brooke starts to see the true shades of Jett that she feared may or may not have existed.
Is he the man she thinks he is? Is he making a play for her inheritance?... Would he stoop so low to betray her like that? What more lies could he be spewing and hiding? And can she entrust her heart and put her faith in him? Are they REALLY meant to be together?
“As perfect as he had seemed at first glance—sweet in words, gentle in actions, and sexy as hell—I shouldn’t’ and wouldn’t forget that I had always sensed something dark lurking inside him. It was a side I had always been afraid to confront or face.”
In a way, I thought this book should have been called, “Tell Me No Lies” as once again, TRUST, is a huge spellbinding factor in every word and action that is said and unsaid.
Now it’s a matter of self perseverance and trying to dictate what is true and what is false.
“Love had made me blind. All he had to do was tell me a few lies, pretend to be in love with me, and make an utter fool of me in the process.”
“I would never be able to look at him again without the images of betrayal flashing before my eyes. I would never be able to face him again.”
J.C. Reed definitely livens up the ante from start to finish. At first I was concerned that I’d be able to even catch on to what was going on but Ms. Reed writes in such a captivating way that I couldn’t help but read on to see what happens next. Looking forward to more Brooke and Jett and to see how they overcome this latest hurdle!! I’m sure there’s going to be lots of angst, misunderstandings, and betrayal in the cards for them though before they can have their happily ever after!! Can’t wait for bk 2!!

Uncertainty rules in this book which keeps you on edge throughout this brilliantly written novel. And I'm still not sure whether or not the author intended this book to be a follow up to the Surrender, Conquer Your Love and Treasure Your Love, but if you haven’t read them, don’t worry! J C Reed has used her magic.
Brooke Stewart walks into one of the most luxurious hotel foyers in New York City dressed up to the nines, but she’s at sixes and sevens with her nerves! This is it. A rendezvous with Mr. Sex-on-Legs. She wants more from this enigmatic man with his sexy voice and horrendously good looks. Nevertheless, she’s yet to find out what his game is and even though it appears that he going out of his way to make her happy, he alludes to her wishes well knowing her condition.
Brooke and Jetts’ relationship is solid, passionate and for the first time in her life full of complications, she has learnt to trust someone, or at least that’s what she thought. When she starts to discover tell-tail signs of things that don’t exactly add up, she realises that apart from her best friend, Sylvie, the only one person who can help her, is herself! An inheritance which is causing problems and penniless won’t dampen her spirits. Now she has the opportunity to do something about her affairs. Perhaps she’ll make that phone call that could get her out of a situation she’d never dreamed of being in, perhaps she won’t. The end of a book left me hanging on the precipice of which I can only say caused consternation.
There was no point in the story that gave me a clue as to what Jett’s intentions are; however, I do get the impression that he’s up to no good. I sincerely hope I’m wrong. Will this absolutely gorgeous man play his cards right, or will he let me down again? Yes, he’s not a saint! Therefore I’ll just have to wait for The Lover’s Game in the No Exceptions series coming in September.
In spite of leaving the quintessential sexy details to the last, the amorous scenes must be mentioned as they are hotter than a Vindaloo curry! To say descriptive would be an understatement and you’ll definitely be fanning yourselves. And this is what I'm leading up to; the storyline is so well-plotted and so full of mystery that for me, the hot scenes were an added bonus. Two words to Ms Reed‒simply bravo!
PLEASE DO NOT EVEN BOTHER WASTING A MEASLY $2.99-$3.99 [Forgot the price] ON THIS BOOK.
First off everything happened in 2 days in this book! It was very short like 3 hours worth of reading but I finished the book in a record 1 hour 20 minutes anyways let me get back on track. The book in the beginning was like 60%-70% sex [Shaking my head] I was expecting a story but you honestly will not get that until the end of the book. First off the thing I hated most was Brookes rambling! omg she rambles way to much in her head and it literally takes up most of the story even though clearly there was no story until the last 2-3 chapters. Second! J.C Reed please I beg you stop making Brooke seem like Jetts bitch its really annoying to see him act so protected, possessive, selfish, and cocky as hell really the more he does it the less Brooke portrays a REAL WOMAN because I kid you not NO WOMAN in REAL LIFE will ever let a man control everything she does. Third! .....The sex was......eh! I feel like I've read it already in your other books...truly wasnt enough details or really arousing to read at all...It was like PG-13. Fourth! I really hope you do better next book and write more because this book was honestly short, boring until the very end, and seemed to much about brookes thoughts and insecurities and everything happening in just 2 days was ridiculous not only that, but I have never read a book where when a chapter ends the next chapter starts continuing with where the ending of the last chapter left off [I know that explanation sounds silly but you literally have to read it and see for yourself] anyways this book gets 1 star from, I bought it, read it, was a disappointed, bored until the end, and then I returned and got a refund. please dont bother wasting your money. I love J.C Reed but she fell off with this 1 you should have just let Brooke and Jetts story end.
The Lover’s Secret – J.C. Reed 4 “Life was beautiful, but it was also painful. People fail, a few get up, but there’s never a guarantee that their second attempt will work out.”
J.C. Reed is one of my favorite authors, when she came out with the Surrender Your Love trilogy… I about died with glee. I’m so in love with the characters, the words, and just the entirety of Ms. Reed. I wasn’t at all surprised when I found out that she had a new book coming out, that I would absolutely adore it. I was so enthralled when I learned that it was a continuation of Brooke and Jett’s story. This is probably one of my most loved and hated couples in a book series. There are so many different aspects of each of them that I loved/hated at the same time. Even though this is technically a continuation of Brooke and Jett, it CAN be read as a standalone. However, that being said – I really do suggest that you read the Surrender Your Love series, and I suggest you read that series first. Whether you read it before or after you read this, you totally need to read it, because so many things fall into place, and you will be so much more understanding of the relationship between the two of them.
Brooke and Jett both have baggage. The connection between them is inescapable though, and you’ll immerse yourself completely in their passion. Having a difficult past can catch up with you, and they’re both trying to work on their issues with one another in this new spin off series. While Jett is a wealthy business man, he’s the epitome of an alpha male. He has the entire sexy bad boy thing going for him. Even when he’s this big, strong, god of a man… when it comes to Brooke he’s completely a puddle of puppy love mud. The connection between the two is fireworks.
"....you're the risk I'll always take."
Brooke is a beautiful, strong-willed, stubborn female. While dealing with her past, she can’t help but have doubts about her future. She’s confident about herself, but when it comes to Jett… she’s still leery of what he did to her in the past, and what may come of their future. I totally sympathize with her and relate to her with her hurt emotions and the fact that she’s scared. Dealing with trust issues is a hard thing to break, especially if someone is a repeat offender. “It’s your right to have wishes and dreams. We all have them. It’s what makes us who we are – susceptible, stupid, and blind. But love gives us hope to live another day.”
Since I wasn’t expecting another story about Brooke and Jett, I was thrilled and excited to see what would be in store for me in this new novel. I have to say, J.C. Reed does not disappoint. I was completely floored with some of the inconsistent and mysterious things started happening to Brooke again. Once again, I began to hate on Jett, not giving him even a LITTLE benefit of the doubt. I hope that in the next book, he explains himself very well… because if I were Brooke, I would definitely give that man a verbal beat down! I mean, REALLY!? How can you keep such a thing a secret from the woman who you love!? Don’t worry – I won’t tell you. You HAVE to read it!
“Just looking at him, I felt drugged, as if the chemical reactions in my brain were some complex cocktail of sex-fueled hormones, waiting to diffuse.”
I love the fact that J.C. Reed leaves you with the element of surprise. This novel was more mystery and suspense than I expected and I LOVED it. I was completely intrigued by the demons of the past meeting the present, and bringing them into the future.
“When you walked away the first time, I thought about you every minute of the day, wishing I could turn back time and meet you under different circumstances.”
I wasn’t ready for this book to end, and now I can’t wait for the second book in the series, The Lover’s Game. Honestly, if I don’t find out what is going to happen between the couple… I might just die. Anticipation will have me sulking until the next book releases!!! As always, J.C. Reed delivered an astonishing read that won’t be forgotten. You’ll be so entranced in the story that you’ll devour this novel in one sitting and not even realize that you kept going. It’s one of those books that you just can’t stop. If you stop… you’re sitting there tapping your fingers and counting the seconds until you can get right back into the story. I HIGHLY recommend this novel, as well as the pre-series Surrender Your Love. Again – I would insist that you read Surrender Your Love series first, that way you’ll understand the characters more and be more in depth with their past.
This was quite an exciting read! Okay, so to start with I was thinking it was going to go a completely different way. Brooke walks in to a bar all dressed up to kill. She obviously doesn't wear the type of clothes she has on often, but she seems to have an agenda for the night. She knows who she is after and seems to be playing some sort of game. She meets a gorgeous stranger who would seem to be a bit of a secretive ladies man. He wants her and knows he will have her tonight. Although she is playing hard to get, she knows what the outcome will be. The beginning is catchy and the writing style immediately pulls you in. Now it all starts to change from there. Gorgeous stranger gives her his room card and tells her to go up. Brooke is going to but wants to play it smooth. Except she goes to the wrong room first, bumps into a crazy man who is expecting someone else, thinking it's her starts getting a bit feisty. Yet along comes the right guy and pulls her out of the awkward situation, and let's drop that, he actually does know her. So after that bit of intense confusion. It would seem Brooke and Jett, are playing a bit of a role play game. They are a couple and wanted to pretend they were having a one night stand. Now we know who they are, and know it's a game. It gets a little bit more confusing. Still hooked on the characters and the writing, it all is a perfectly set scene. Yet, I'm still very confused. We get small clips of their pasts. Bits of information thrown in from time to time. It would seem they both have had huge things happen and I feel like I have walked in on the 3rd book in a series. I'm dying to know what happened, as it would seem some huge things went down, and some crazy intense story lines. Yet, it's all hinted at and told in chunks, but never the full details. It felt to me like, I was missing so much of the story. Although this was the first in a new series. I wanted to know their past as it actually was imperative to the storyline. They are connected via some awful things that happened. Towards the very end, Brooke has got very paranoid (rightly so) and is trying to work out what mysterious and secretive Jett is up to. It would seem he has been dishonest before and is now doing it again, yet it's all connected to what happened before. The stories and secrets are huge, and I'm totally hooked but I'm also screaming because I feel like I've missed so many important factors. I love how clever the story is, plus how everything interconnects and is well thought out. I love a good secret in books and this one has stacks. Yet I did feel like I was lost. Anyway, I get to the end of the book, sat with my mouth wide open and a headache from trying to get my brain around things when it says, to find out what happens in their pasts and how they came to meet, you need to read the other series. Arghhhh I didn't know that, I feel like a bit of an idiot. Although the other series is on my to-read pile, I've never gotten around to them yet, and I thought I could read this without having to read the others first. Some may say you don't need to. Yet to me, I would of loved to know the full story first. So, all in all this is an awesome story. With suspense, secrets and lies all cleverly intertwined. Some hot scenes thrown on top to make it the perfect balance. Yet if like me you haven't read the Surrender our Love series by J.C. Reed, I would go check them out first. I've done it backwards but after the intense last few chapters, I now feel compelled to go find out the back ground!! I may alter this review once I fully understand everything, as I think I may be screaming how awesome I found it when my brain is working!! :) 4 stars.
“Life was beautiful, but it was also painful. People fail, a few get up, but there’s never a guarantee that their second attempt will work out.”
What started out as a one night stand, where Jeff would introduce Brooke to all kinds of new experiences, turned into something more. Something more lasting or so Brooke thought.
This is the first book in a new series, it’s a short, told from Brooke’s point of view and the way it’s built up is different from what I’ve read before. With many intervals and infrequent time lapses it’s almost like I’m reading flashbacks where only the important interactions are shown.
By not knowing all the details straight away, you as reader feel just as uncertain as the heroine. Brooke is indeed insecure and paranoid but I have to say that from what I’ve read I think she’s justified to feel that way.
Then you have Jeff who seduced Brooke with his powerful presence, good looks and that hungry gaze of his. His confidence is a turn on and with his smart retorts he seems funny enough. But there’s something secretive and dangerous lurking underneath is all. Something that could devastate Brooke. And I hate that about him.
Just when things finally started to make sense and when one revelation after the other is revealed….it stops….and will be continued in the next book….so cruel.
Brooke Stewart is in love with Jett Mayfield, he is a man who knows what he wants and it's Brooke. However Brooke's past has one big flag, she has problems trusting and Jett wants her trust. Jett has a plan though to break through her walls but both have secrets that could tear them apart.
Overall really good story but I was confused initially and although it clarifies as the story progresses I found myself a bit lost in the beginning. Jett is pure alpha male and there was an excitement to Brooke, her vulnerability was something you could identify with. I would definitely reread to see if my perspective changes.
Thanks for the ARC. This book is what I would call an extremely sexy, entertaining read! Intense, dark, and riveting, the Lover's Secret prepares you for an emotional avalanche that will leave you reeling! I have always enjoyed Reed's books, but this one is so very well executed, it took me a good day to put my thoughts into words. Every aspect of this story was engaging, but more than that it can get under your skin. A tip: clear your schedules before beginning this book. You won't be able to put it down.
I liked this book so much. The writing is good, the characters are cool and the storyline is interesting, it has a very good with unexpected twist. I felt so related to Brooke, her feelings, her doubts, and some of what she has been through. She’s a good girl who has dreams and she deserve to fulfill them all. The sexy and mysterious man she knows is def willing to give her what she wants. He is sexy, handsome and his ego is bigger than New York. I liked that about him. I can’t wait for the second book of this series. I need a lot of answers.
hmm....this read was 2.5 stars for me. I didn’t hate it, didn’t love it - it was just...meh. I think if there was more dialogue and interaction between the main characters versus the storyline mainly consisting of thoughts in Brooke’s mind, I would have enjoyed it more. Frankly, her thoughts annoyed me. But the cliffhanger will keep my interests for the next installment.
This book was a bit confusing to me, I feel like there was a first book that I was missing even though this was listed as the first book in the series. Brooke is a bit paranoid and insecure which is actually understandable based on her past. She was attacked and her sister was killed. Jett who is a rich business man always seems to be hiding something from Brooke. Of course being an emotional pregnant woman Brooke starts to let it gets the best of her, she finds emails that Jett had deleted, someone gives her a note that Jett was visiting his brother in Jail, Nate who also happens to be the man that tried to kill Brooke. He doesn't even tell her that he is getting out of jail. Then lastly she runs into Jett and Tiffany at a hotel restaurant and they are more than just a little comfortable with eachother. Brooke goes from wanting Jett to marry her right away to going to not trusting him at all again.
I wish there was a lot more back story here.

I received this eARC from the author in exchange for an honest review.
3.5 “I Want To Know More” Stars!
The Review: I have mixed feeling about this one. This review will be in two parts. What I loved and what I thought needed “more”.
First, let me say, I LOVED the spicy, steamy scenes between Jett and Brooke. Those two are smokin’ hot together and their playfulness and role playing was fun to read. I also really enjoyed the characters themselves. Jett was alpha-yummy and though Brooke has some serious insecurity issues, I liked her willingness to enjoy the game. There was a mystery brewing behind all the spice and I loved seeing it play out the way it did, leaving me wanting more. The writing was well done and I think I could have enjoyed the story better if I knew what the heck was going on, which leads me into my second part of the review.
I think I should have read the Surrender Your Love series first, which seems to be beginning of Jett and Brooke’s story. Apparently all three of those books center around them, how they came together and provide the background for the characters that was missing from this read. I desperately wanted to know what was going on and because of that, I’ll probably go back and read those books, but I would have liked to have been warned this was a continuation of their story, even if it says it’s a lead in to something new. I’m one of those readers who likes to have ALL the details. The author does a decent job cluing you in on what’s happened in the past but with only 125 pages, there wasn’t enough room for the past, present and future lead in. I need to go back and read the first books in the other series before moving on to the next book. I just NEED to know all there is to know about Jett and Brooke so I can get totally invested in them and their story. I think I’m going to love them...
Brooke Stewart decides to take up the offer for one night of anything goes, but she ends up discovering more than she bargained for… She ends up with many unanswered questions and more worry about… I love the story of Brooke and Jett. There is a chemistry and love that is evident when they are together. But there are also secrets and hidden pasts that have the potential to destroy the love they have. Jett Mayfield was sexy without even trying. He could have any women he wanted, so Brooke loved the fact that she wanted to be with her. Their mysterious night of anything goes at the hotel, didn’t go as well as could be expected. Brooke had some of her hopes shattered in that one night. She also makes discovers in regards to potential secrets that Jett is hiding from her that could change their future for them and their baby. This book has you questioning is Brooke just hormonal or is something really going on with Jett that she needs to be leery of? Why does Brooke keep getting the sneaking feeling that someone is watching her and maybe following her; Brooke can’t decide if it is real or just her being paranoid? I have to say, Brooke’s constant questioning of Jett did get rather annoying, he seems to truly love her but there is something behind the scenes that hasn’t been revealed to her (or us) yet. So really she does have the right to question, I just wish she would call him out and ask him the questions instead of worrying more. There are so many discovers throughout the book that just leave me asking more questions and wanting to know the answers. The cliffhanger was enough to make me scream, but it also means that I can’t wait until the next book comes out so I can get more of the answers. Will Brooke and Jett make it through this or will Brooke not give him a chance to explain himself and answer the biggest question of all, WHY…
I'm torn as to how I feel about this book...and this is why:
I read the "Surrender Your Love" series (prequel to "No Exceptions" series) about a year ago and once I found out that this was a "continuation" of that, I HAD to read it! I decided to reread "Surrender your love", "Conquer your love", and "Treasure your love" to get a foundation as to what was going on bc it had been so long since I read it (I loved that trilogy BTW).
I was informed by the author on a fanpage, that you do not have to read the "Surrender your Love" trilogy before you read "No Exceptions" trilogy, but I feel that you do! There are pieces that are given in depths in the "Surrender your love" trilogy, that you as a reader would be missing out on if you just read "The Lover's Secret". In the "The Lover's Secret", those details are given vaguely so the reader has them, but doesn't help build that "storyline/relationship foundation".
So far, with only reading the first book in this series, I feel that the characters would've been better off just getting an epilogue at the end of "Treasure your Love" or a short story vs a whole additional series. My opinion may change after I read the rest of the "No Exceptions" series (which I will be reading bc I believe in seeing a series through, if I loved the writing and I did love it!)
That being said, I did truly like this book and love being able to read more about Jett and Brooke and I'm praying they get their HEA! I'm curious to see where JC Reed takes this series! I'm guessing she will not disappoint bc the "Surrender your Love" series was amazeballs!
I thought this was a good read and I was intrigued. I was pulled in by the characters “first meeting” but once I figured out what was going on I felt like I was missing something. I was interested in Brooke and Jett's relationship and wanted to know more but I don't feel like I learned a lot. There were all these little things that were taking place and I was really curious about them and had a lot of questions. Brooke has some serious trust issues and seems to be keeping a lot from Jett. She questions herself and her thoughts on Jett a lot. I thought Jett was interesting but I don’t feel like I learned much about him.
I haven’t read the previous series (and was told I didn’t need to for this spin-off) and there was a lot of recapping in this book to catch me up on Brooke and Jett’s relationships but I kept thinking I needed to go back and read the Surrender Trilogy to get a better feel for them.
There wasn't a lot of development and it was a bit slow in the middle but I was still really curious about them and what was going to happen. The end really picked up and had me on the edge of my seat – it’s what pushed me over the edge and made this a 3 star review for me. I finally felt Brooke's anxiety and felt invested. I want to know what Jett is up to. It does end on a cliffhanger. I was invested enough and am curious enough that I will continue on to book two, The Lover's Game.
**I received an ARC from the Author for an honest review.**
This book is a continuation of Brooke and Jett's story from the Surrender Your Love Series, which I read and loved also. Since I had read the previous series I was able to just jump right in and reconnect with the characters.
The beginning of the book is so very sexually charged and very satisfying. But alas nothing lasts forever and things start to unravel a little bit at a time. Brooke starts to have doubts and suspicions about Jett and their relationship. Her life slowly starts to fall apart all in the span of a day and at the end of this book I was fuming mad at Jett, but I know that it is not he last we have heard from Jett. I can not wait to see what comes next. There are quite a few shocking revelations in this book that leave Brooke stunned and struggling. I love how JC added the new twists to this new series and I am curious to see how they play out.
I do not want to give much away, but there are some appearances from previous characters in the Surrender Your Love Series. I would definitely recommend reading them before reading this series so that you can get a better grasp on the storyline and the characters.
I can't find them, because this book blew them right off! Just when I thought it couldn't get any better I come along with something else that just blew my mind. I loved everything about this book. There are no words to describe it, except...oh my god, oh my god, this book was so delicious and mind turning twisting. I have been salivating ever since I read about Jett.
The interaction between Jett and Brooke, the passion and the steamy scenes were amazing. I know I should be calm and rational, but I can't. Not with this book. Not with what happened. Not with that ending. I had high expectations of this book and I didn't no idea that I would fall for this book. I want need the sequel!
definitely disappointed. I loved Jett and Brooke and followed them thru the first three books. the reviews were all good for this book but as I read...I got so frustrated bc although everything wasnt totally tied up for them at the end of their book they were happy and looking forward to the baby. I wasn't expecting lies, sneaking around, no communication. im sure there is a reason for it all. . but I was so frustrated!!
she's mad at him for keeping secrets.... but she is keeping secrets of her own. the beginning of the story was hot and I loved it but then u dont really see jett in the story. I really wanted a happy ending after all the drama of the first three books. shes sneaking around, thinking of posing for pin up pictures?? (REALLY??) She doesnt want to talk about her debt but she wants a proposal?? I will pretend I didn't read this one and they lived happily ever after. bc I will not be buying the next one.
Wow. Talk about hair pulling, edge of your seat, amazing. My heart is still racing at the thought of what Brooke goes through. I love how you live through it as if you're right there as the story unfolds. it's as intense as it can get. Right from the beginning, it starts off hot and sexy. A few chapters in, and there are secrets, passion, and trust issues to be worked on. I Love how Jett behaves with Brooke, how they are as a couple. I love that the author makes a relationship realistic. Like any other relationship, there are insecurities and problems. Most of all, I love the way the author reveals the events. Instead of feeding whole chunks of info, she interweaves everything into a storyline as it progresses. And wow, the ending. It had me screaming in surprise. This was my first book by the author, but it won't be my last. It won't. I'm more than eager to see how it goes.
Thank you J.C.Reed for the ARC given, I'm a truly fan of your books. This book (No Exceptions series) contínuos Jett and Brook's story, and I can't tell much without given spoilers, so I will tell you that if you like The Surrender's series , you will love this one too. Jett decided to gove Brook a wonderful and steamy night, to forget the problems and enjoy themselves, but if you have a secret , it will follow you no matter where.... When you think any major problem between Jett and Brook is finished, something happened and this will shake their relationship. Jett still have secrets which he doesn't share with Brook, her trust in Jett has already be broken once, and she will not tolerate another lie, even if by omission.
What will happen with them and their baby.... Don't miss it! Can't wait for the next one! Good job!
I went into this book completely blind, I saw the cover and thought yep I'm in! I have to say that if you didn't read the first series by JC Reed you may be a little lost, it is a sort of continuation of characters you met in the Surrender your Love series Brooke and Jett. That said after a chapter or two I picked right up on the story and was sucked in. Brooke is meeting a sexy stranger and having a one night stand but soon life pops that bubble and real life comes crashing in.. When things start to not add up in her life, an email that was sent to her but someone else read it and sent it to the trash bin and when things don't add up she goes searching for answers. When you know someone is hiding something you begin to do things and think things you wouldn't normally do. Can lies be forgiven? Can some things be over looked and trust the person you love?
