Known since the early 1990s for his photographs of young people in their social environment – clubs, gay pride parades, warehouse parties – Wolfgang Tillmans created an enigmatic, sexy and highly innovative photography while inventing new icons of beauty and style for gallery goers and magazine readers alike. This book is an updated and expanded edition of his 2002 monograph, featuring a new survey on his work from the past ten years and new artist's writings.
I had a hard time seeing anything special photographically speaking; interesting humans in the pictures, yes, maybe, interesting pictures? not really. I'm looking forward to later compilations though to see how his style evolved and whether I connect better with later periods.
Technically this is four books in one. Good book to understand his work. Also I recently learned you can download his photobooks as PDF on his personal website.
I really like the way he displays his works without categorizing. Changeable and stunning, fascinating and fearless. Snapshot sometimes is meant to look without fear. I’m gonna think about the personal attribute in photography. 我发现很多自己拍的他已经拍过了。#MOMA (missed up his exhibition in MOMA kinda upset
