When Cord McKay reluctantly becomes Stacey Webb’s bodyguard, he tries to remain distant and remote. Unbeknownst to her, he played a devastating role in her past. But accidents, attacks and kidnapping attempts bring the two together and nothing can stop their irrepressible attraction and ensuing love. “Vividly appealing lovers whose smoldering romance thrills us to the very last page.” RT
Kathryn Shay is a lifelong writer. At fifteen, she penned her first 'romance,' a short story about a female newspaper reporter in New York City and her fight to make a name for herself in a world of male journalists - and with one hardheaded editor in particular. Looking back, Kathryn says she should have known then that writing was in her future. But as so often happens, fate sent her detouring down another path.
Fully intending to pursue her dream of big city lights and success in the literary world, Kathryn took every creative writing class available at the small private women's college she attended in upstate New York. Instead, other dreams took precedence. She met and subsequently married a wonderful guy who'd attended a neighboring school, then completed her practice teaching, a requirement for the education degree she never intended to use. But says Kathryn, "I fell in love with teaching the first day I was up in front of a class, and knew I was meant to do that."
Kathryn went on to build a successful career in the New York state school system, thoroughly enjoying her work with adolescents. But by the early 1990s, she'd again made room in her life for writing. It was then that she submitted her first manuscript to publishers and agents. Despite enduring two years of rejections, she persevered. And on a snowy December afternoon in 1994, Kathryn Shay sold her first book to Harlequin Superromance.
Since that first sale, Kathryn has written twenty-one books for Harlequin, nine mainstream contemporary romances for the Berkley Publishing Group, and two online novellas, which Berkley then published in traditional print format.
Kathryn has become known for her powerful characterizations - readers say they feel they know the people in her books - and her heart-wrenching, emotional writing (her favorite comments are that fans cried while reading her books or stayed up late to finish them). In testament to her skill, the author has won five RT BookClub Magazine Reviewers Choice Awards, three Holt Medallions, two Desert Quill Awards, the Golden Leaf Award, and several online accolades.
Even in light of her writing success, that initial love of teaching never wavered for Kathryn. She finished out her teaching career in 2004, retiring from the same school where her career began. These days, she lives in upstate New York with her husband and two children. "My life is very full," she reports, "but very happy. I consider myself fortunate to have been able to pursue and achieve my dreams."
This was a good story. This is also in the bodyguard book set. It's the story of Stacey and Cord. Cord is hired to guard Stacey when threats are made against her life and someone tries to kidnap her. Stacey is unaware that Cord is familiar with her family from 18 yrs before. Stacey falls for Cord and he for her knowing the secret will tear them apart. A good read
Eighteen years ago, Cord McKay left his hometown . Not totally by his own volition, though his overly strict cop father could have easily made him leave. Now that he has custody of his sweet four year old child, he’s back home grateful to have his mother’s help with the child. One family that he didn’t want to get involved after his return, was the Webb family. But fate has Cord saving young Stacy Webb and falling in love . A love that should never happen. Will the guilt, lies by omission, and the past keep these two apart? As always, this talented author reminds us that life can be messy. That it’s not black or white, but nuances of gray. That we are imperfect and that forgiveness is within reach.
THIS SUBJECT MATTER WAS KINDA HARD TO ACCEPT, FOR ME. ON ONE HAND I FELT IT WAS SO VERY WRONG BUT ON THE OTHER HAND IT FELT RIGHT. THE BOOK WAS WELL WRITTEN AND THE STORYLINE WAS VERY DIFFERENT. THE CHOICES MADE IN YOUR YOUTH CAN AND WILL COME BACK AND BITE YOUR A*S IN THE FUTURE. THE OUTCOME WAS GOOD & BAD BUT IT TEACHES THAT WE ALL MAKE MISTAKES IN LIFE. THE DIFFICULT THING IS TO BE ABLE TO FORGIVE OTHERS AND YOURSELF. THIS WAS A REALLY A BEAUTIFUL AND HORRIBLE LOVE STORY AT THE SAME TIME. WITH TRUE LOVE MOST EVERYTHING IS POSSIBLE.
Good stuff: Cord is yummy, because who can resist the sexy single-father bodyguard that has it all together. Stacey is believable and likable; I found her to be the most well-thought out. Excellent ending!
Not so good stuff: Very cliche scenes in the first half. Too much of a rewrite of the premise of the Bodyguard movie with Kevin Costner, which you cant forget until halfway through. Both men (Cord and Gifford) were not realistically written: rarely if ever do men show the repeated guilt and sensitivity that you see in both characters.
A Suitable Bodyguard by Kathryn Shay is a good read. Ms Shay has delivered a well written book. Stacey and Cord's story has enough twists and turns to keep you flipping pages. I especially like the characters in A Suitable Bodyguard. Ms Shay has also supplied enough suspense, action and drama to satisfy any reader. I enjoyed A Suitable Bodyguard and look forward to reading more from Kathryn Shay in the future.
I purchased a copy of this book at a library sale.
Im enjoying this series of books immensely, Maybe because I dont have to think too hard and the stories themselves are interesting and varied but this one is also filled with despair and grief as well as some very poignant moments. A well written and thought out story with a great twist in the climax.
Good story..a stalker is after Stacy and her bodyguard is working with her father to catch him before he goes too far. Romance develops, but old history between her father and bodyguard causes trouble. A real twist to the stalker too!! Great suspense.
I enjoyed this very much! There were a few punctuation errors which were annoying, but we're easily overlooked because of the loveable characters and exciting storyline.
