The authors have selected walks of a length ideal for families and older kids to dawdle for a day, or less . Each walk has some fascinating stories and local points of interest that many of the bog standard tourist guides will miss. The background notes comprise a surprisingly sharp and entertaining potted history of Scotland , covering social industrial historic and cultural sites, larger than life characters etc .I’ve lived here a long time was surprised to find out new info or discover some of the more niche corners , Hutters community , leadmine, Gypsy palace , Templar chapel, birthplace of Tarmac, Jacobites, Poets, etc etc so goes a fair bit deeper than most of the pocket walks books . The ones slapped together in a hurry with a tiny map , often not good enough to do the actual walk , a brief description of the route and no space left to tell you any interesting local info .This is a decent work , full of inspiration to plan weekend trips and holidays to engage older children. No colour photos , so no spoilers , decent sized maps tho. A wee gem , out of print , but plenty Decent used copies around

I bought this book hoping I'd use it when I am in Scotland, but it is very poorly organized. It's not organized by areas of the country and/or organized with difficulty level in mind for each area of the country. I gave the book away. It was useless for me.
