I'm going to go with the names shifters and vampires here, because I can't remember the names the author thought up, but the history of the races she created was interesting.
Manning is next in line to be ruler of the shifters and needs to find a mate and procreate, he finds him, that's a little surprising since he has never thought about men as mate material before, but it doesn't even phase this panther!
Quinn runs as soon as he spots Manning and it takes a while but soon we understand why,

There's some interesting world building going on here and I enjoyed the story for the most part. I did often feel like I was in book two of series with some of the time and info jumps. Key scenes were passed over with a blithe reference after the fact which was frustrating because I wanted to read about them.

I did like the MC's, their chemistry was strong and sex scenes were hot. The story moved at a fast clip and I wondered if things were going to end on a cliff hanger. It didn't but it suffere

A different take on the paranormal genre where all shifters, regardless of their 'alternate self', form a community and governance. I didn't find any surprises and the story treks along as expected but it's a good read.

And there is humor!!! There are some wonderful smart alecky remarks that had me smirking to myself.

Quinn has been in hiding from his father for several years and decides that he will be safest taking a job in Idaho. There he finds out that his new employer has an ulter

This story is a 2nd edition and has been polished up and expanded, but has no changes to the storyline. Quinn suffered for years at the hands of his father for being different, but now hiding out with his sister in America he has some semblance of peace, that is until he spots a shifter who makes him feel things he shouldn’t. Manning wants revenge on the ones who killed his mother but when he smells his mate all he can think about is finding and cl

Crimson Mate follows Quinn and Manning. One comes from a the Vam’kir race and the other from the Ba’Kal. Vam’kir are sort of like vampires, and Ba’Kal are shifters. Both races mate and have similar leadership structures. Each race has a leader, sort of like the Volturi in Twilight, who rule all the alphas leading the many communities. But wait, there’s a twist because this brilliant world couldn’t be so simple. Every hundred years, Mother Earth, the creator, gives rise to one special blend of th ...more

I honestly loved this book. I was hooked from the beginning and didn't want to put the book down. For me, shifters are one of my favorite themes. I never get bored with them, although a majority of shifter stories are the same old, same old.

With this story, however, I felt like it was told in an entirely new way even if the bottom line is still the same shifter concept. The Ba'Kal are the shifters and the Vam'kir are the vampires/trancers. The whole history of the Ba'Kal and Vam'kir is explaine

This is really well written story, with caring characters, good created storyline and slow developing emotions. I liked both main characters. Quinn is deeply mistrustful character. His past is revealed through the story. Manning knows only one fact he wants his mate and to get Quinn he will need to gain Quinn trust, which isn't so easy. But Manning can be patient when he needs to be. I liked Manning as a character, he was caring and kind. With Manning help Quinn starts to heal and accept who he ...more

It wasn't bad. Solidly written, I guess.

The ending was a bit too easy.

...my standards have probably gotten a bit too high.

Hmm...I think I need another shelf (is this how it goes? First it's just what you strictly need. But then, you just need another, and another, and another, until you've got more shelves than books?)

I really really enjoyed this story. I loved the world McCoy created and the new take on vampires and shifters. I also really liked the flow of the relationship between Quinn and Manning, especially how Manning didn't force himself on Quinn (unlike pretty much every other mates story out there)

It was not bad, not bad at all. There are flaws. But I concentrated on the relationship factor and decided not to pay a lot of attention to the rest. I think the book could do better with less sex and more bonding between mates, but that's just me. Anyway, read it in one go.

I really enjoyed this but I felt like the ending was really rushed and that it took away from my happiness with the story.

I could start out by saying that this is a bit like Romeo and Juliet. I could go on to say it is about 2 star-crossed lovers. These statements would not be true though. Romeo and Juliet were two teenagers who were about as deep as a puddle while Manning and Quinn had the depth of a lake.

Manning is the Jaes’din of the shifters. This is a fancy way of saying leader. He is on the lookout for a mate as well as trying to solve the mystery of his mother’s death and some abducted shifters. He meets Qu

Prince Quinn is distinctively unlike the vampire clan he was born into. Quinn’s scent, when mentally stimulated, could produce a sexual frenzy in all unmated vampires, as well as shifters within smelling range. Quinn discovered this when, as a young man, he barely escaped being gang raped. Now Quinn lives in fear of having a repeat of the horrible event. Shifters Ruler Manning recognized immediately that Quinn was his mate by the appealing scent, however, instead of an introduction, Quinn ran aw

This was a really intriguing story, and I liked the history/origin of the Ba'Kal (shifters) and the Vam'kir (vampires aka trancers). It was a unique way of looking at the supernatural world and provided a nice twist to the plot as well. I enjoyed Quinn (son of the current Vam'kir king) and Manning (current Ba'Kal leader) together. Quinn was a bit frustrating at times with his reluctance to bond with Manning even though they were mates, but after Quinn's painful past was revealed it was easier to ...more

It is Manning’s responsibility to commit to the safety of his kind and to find a mate to carry on his line but when he finds his mate, he’ll have heal his ravaged heart and prove his belief in their entwined destinies before their two races go to war in this riveting m/m paranormal romance. The author’s explanation of her Ba’Kal and Vam’Kir world flows smoothly into Manning and Quinn’s romance adding lots of depth and understanding to the story and ensuring that the reader wants to know more. I really liked this book! My favorite part of a shifter book is when the two mates meet. The instant attraction and need to protect that they feel. I have always been a fan of shifter books for those reasons. You get that with this book along with the one who fights it and the perfect amount of angst. Once I started this book I could not put it down. Manning and Quin clicked to me, they fit together. Now I wish had gotten to see them as a couple a little more then I did but otherwise this was a ...more

I loved this book, it went way beyond my expectations and floored me!! The whole vampire/shifter thing is a pretty common subject for books, but every once in a while we get those books that take a different spin on the subject, this was one of those! I loved Quinn and Manning, and the rest of the characters, as well as the settings through out the book. I didn't want this book to end, I was dissapointed when it did. So I am hoping there will be a sequel in the near future. I'd love to read a fe ...more

Quinn and Manning were a nice couple. The world building wasn't bad too. The story lacked something thought, not sure what exactly, but I'm pretty sure I won't remember it by the end of the week.

One thing that bothered me a lot was the ending. The most crucial scene wasn't even there. The final clash was totally left out of... We only get some glimpses told from a perspective of time. It feels like the author didn't know how to write about it so she omitted large part of the story.

This book was such a pleasant surprise! It was very refreshing to read a bit of a different spin on shifters and vampires, I really loved the plot and Quinn's role in everything. I really loved the characters, from the main characters to the minor characters, especially all of Manning's friends. I would love to read more in this 'verse, maybe some mates for Manning's friends?

This was beautiful to read! SO romantic and interesting. Loved the characters. I on't usually see lesbian characters in these books, and the pair in here is my first. So cute. Nikki Mccoy is a new favorite of mine now. I love her love!

2.5 stars. Would have been more, but the fight scene seemed to be missing. One minute it was building up to it, then... Really disappointing for such a good book.

That book is nothing special from my point of view. The way how Author wrote Quinn character make me not like him much so main couple did not pull me. I read better shifter books.

When I was a child, it was a TV station that run a cartoon called "Two Stupid Dogs". The main characters were... two stupid dogs. This book reminded me of that cartoon.

Something happened halfway through the book. It just stopped being good. I stopped liking Quinn. He started to seem like unnecessarily whiny.

I really enjoy reading this book. Different of what I expected and different from the usual Vampire vs Shifter stories I read so far.

I have always been a lover of books, particularly those with the dichotomy of the strong alpha male and the weaker love of their life which they must rescue. After reading all I could find in M/F books, I decided to give M/M fiction a try and my addiction skyrocketed.

Hot, sexy men times two? No contest. Unfortunately, I was reading faster than the authors could produce. Eventually, I resorted to i
