I read this book over and over as a kid. It's fiction, but it's a fun fiction. White Hare is a young girl in what is now California. She leads a rather idyllic life until the Spanish come with these large beasts that they ride. White Hare has never seen horses before, but the horses end up changing her life and the life of her people. It's a really fun story.
