3.5 stars. Do you ever have those times when you're not looking for in-depth world building or massive character background, but just want to get in, get to the heart of the story, then get out?

If so, and if you're also a fan of off-beat romances, then this might be your lucky day.

Ghosts of the Falls was a simple, sweet, and satisfying love story. Jade is an exorcist called in to handle dispatching a pesky ghost. As dumb luck would have it, she happened to find the ghost intriguing and wasn't s

Review: GHOSTS OF THE FALLS by Sarah Purdy Gilman

Heartwarming and "different"-- the love story of a female exorcism, descendant of a grieved widower who decided all earthbound spirits were evil and must be tormented and destroyed, and the logger ghost who died in the 19th century and can't bear an unending eternity of loneliness. Truly a different kind of love story, and very special.

Day 1: Girl walks into town to exorcize. Is a bleeding heart and does not like it when they exorcize ghosts. Her bleeding heartness ended up getting an innocent girl killed because she thought that the ghost was a good guy.
Dutch, the ghost, contacted her to get himself exorcized because he is a lonely old ghost. He is also incredibly hot.

Day 2:
The girl does not realize he is a ghost and asks him out for dinner. Awkward ensues when he refuses. They go up to his grave and then when she tries to

An excellent novella!
I loved every bit of it!

Set in Maine, the United States, the novella begins by introducing the reader to exorcist Jade Clarence, who has been given a final opportunity to prove herself capable of working in the family business of exorcism. She goes to Maine to exorcise a ghost, and meets Dutch

The novella is divided into seven chapters of varying lengths. The language is simple with lots of dialogue and short paragraphs, all which add to the quick pace of the novella. The dia

Ghosts of the Falls is my first Sarah Gilman's book and I request this title together with Ghosts of Kingston Cottage. While I have a itty bitty complain, the ghost of the fall actually just one, the hero. So, maybe we can remove the plural amount of ghost from the title. Maybe.

Ghosts of the Falls is story about Jade Clarence, descended from an Exorcist and now just face her mistake while try to exorcism a spirit that turn killed somebody. Now she go to Maine to exorci

Jade Clarence was born into a family of exorcists who believe the only good lingering spirit is a destroyed lingering spirit. Bucking family tradition, Jade believes that some spirits are not inherently evil and is trying to discover a way to help the spirit move on rather than painfully destroy the lost souls.

Dutch Hutchinson has been trapped on the mortal plain since his tragic death over a hundred years ago. Tired of his lonely existence he uses his energy to contact the Clarence family to pe

Haunting and romantic, Ghosts of the Falls was a lovely read. This novella drew me in and I enjoyed every bit of it.

Jade is a exorcist, but it seems she might not have it in her to be so ruthless. She believes that the spirits should be given a chance to prove themselves good or bad, but her family doesn't agree. She's supposed to prove her ability as a exorcist in a new assignment. Only to find that the spirit is kind and only wants to be free.

I liked both main characters. Jade was a strong he

Some stories just leave you wanting more... in a good way. This is one of them.
Sarah Gilman achieved in 54 pages what some authors cannot do in 200.

I would love this story to be expanded into a full novel length. I am a very “mentally visual” reader. Descriptives that I can use to mentally place myself into the scene/situation takes a book from good to great.
Working within the novella length, Ms. Gilman had a beautiful story to tell.

Exorcism is a family business for Jade Clarence. Unfortunately

This story was shorter than I expected and it left me wanting more, though in a good way. Gilman was able to create a beautifully written, well developed and perfectly structured story in such short length.
The plot line was really original, I haven´t read anything like that before. The story is really enjoyable. Jade and Dutch are wonderful characters, they have flaws, desires, fears and the need to be loved. They are wonderful characters that mix perfectly with the plot. I liked that the love i

This book is short but great story. Jade is following in her family foot steps and does exorcisms. She is having a hard time with an innocent woman dying because a ghost tricked her in believing it was innocent and was anything but. She been trying to find a way to exorcise ghost without being painful. Dutch is a ghost died many years ago and wants an exorcism, so he can move on. He calls and Jade comes to see the place. Another lovely story from Sarah Gilman!

Ghosts of the Falls may be a short story, but it's got everything that makes a full length story amazing and is set at just the right pace. Sarah writes about ghosts just as well as she writes about her angels. (This was my first ghost story and I was not disappointed!) I love that she based this off of something that really happened. It gives the story an extra punch. The writing is fabulous and pulls you in from the get go. There are amazing descriptions

Sarah has done it again! If you love her angel books than you will love her story of a sexy ghost and feisty exorcist.

Even though this was a short story it still had everything that makes a story make you fall in love and hope everything works out for the couple. The way Sarah writes she had me feeling like I was at the falls seeing all the gorgeous scenery along with Dutch and Jade. And the fact that Sarah based this off something that actually happened just gives this story something extra. Th
this is an absolutely lovely story about love at first sight - it was sweet, simple and really lovely.

Jade is a exorcists, who made a mistake and now has the last chance to prove herself to her family to stay within the business. Dutch is a ghost who died more than 100 years ago and wants to end his existence. Neither of them expects to find the other - which changes everything.

I loved the sparks and the start especially because it was a story which could happen to everyone - except maybe the gh

Ghosts of the Falls by Sarah Gilman

Jade Clarence is an exorcist. Dutch Vernon called to have the ghost exorcized. Jade feels guilty if exercising an innocent ghost because it causes them extreme pain. But this ghost is powerful and can take corporal form. Does that make it dangerous?

This short 60 page novella is a slightly different twist on ghosts and exorcism and it's mixed with a sweet love story. I enjoyed this short read for its hope and resolution. Very nice.

Every once in a while you get the pleasure of reading a book that not only is not what you had expected but it also leaves you wanting more and more and more. This is one of those books. Jade is a female exorcist in an all-male family of them who sets out to prove she can still do her job. Dutch is a ghost who has been in our world for what he perceives to be too long and is ready to be exorcized so he calls in Jade and her family. Little does Jade know going in to this case what is awaiting her ...more

This was actually a lot cuter than I expected. And as much as I normally dislike short stories, it was the perfect length. The twist at the end was not what I expected to happen and it was a nice surprise. Different than most books. And my gosh, could Dutch have been any cuter? No wonder she fell for the guy.

3.5 stars. I am rounding up on this one for sure becuase of the creativity of the story. It took me less than 1.5 hrs to read. In such a short time, it was hard for me to feel like I really got to know any of the characters. That said, it was an easy, light read that I recommend to anyone who has a little time to kill and wants to read a complete story.

Ghost of the Falls was a unique paranormal romance unlike any I've read before. I enjoyed Ms. Gilman’s fresh take on ghost and exorcists.

Jade comes from a long line of sensitive who practice exorcism. When one wrong decision turns into a fatal error, she’s forced to prove herself on her next job or be kicked out of the family business.

This exorcism is unlike anything she’s ever worked on before. The spirit is completely corporal and far too char

Still reeling from a recent mistake that cost someone their life, she must do a stellar job dealing with her latest case or risk being fired. She wishes to continue with the family business, but needs to find a way to do so and not harm non-malevolent spirits.

This was a sweet, quick ghost tale with a swirl of steamy on top! Jade was just doing her job as an exorcist for her family's business when she stumbled upon something she wasn't expecting. She'd encountered benevolent spirits, misguided spirits, and even spirits powerful enough to move objects, but Dutch was something much more. He was able to take physical form and appear just like any other living and breathing man, so he had the best of both worlds. Except, of course, that after haunting the ...more

I wanted more background but do recommend GOTF!

Even before a certain 90's movie featuring a murdered hero put ghosts as romantic figures on the map I was a fan of the idea. I'm not sure just what the allure for me was as a child but the idea of love beyond death seems universally appealing. I wasn't quite sure how Gilman could pull two characters together romantically in such a short story and if I'm totally honest, I'd have probably given this one a five star rating if it had been a full length

Jade Clarence's family has been in the business of exorcism for generations. When Jade royally screws up on the job, her brothers decide to give her one more chance to prove that she can handle such a strenuous career, or they'll oust her from the business for her own good. Her last chance is to perform an exorcism at a Maine state park. There, she meets Dutch Hutchinson, and finds that the job won't be as simple as she'd anticipated.

Dutch called Jade to come to a state park in Maine to exorcise a ghost. "Over a hundred years ago, a logger got knocked into the river by a falling tree and fell into the gorge." Jade asked Dutch to take her to the burial site so she can bind the ghost to his grave and he will not be powerful enough to fit back.

On their hike through the forest to the site, Dutch asks a lot of questions about exorcising a ghost. Jade explains "[i]t takes a significant event or events to bind a spirit to earth" th

What an awesome quick little read. My sole criticism: it wasn't long enough, it should be a full length story! Actually, with brothers, there's the potential for at least a 3 book series...!

What a great little world was built. The author managed to give me characters and some rules of a world in such a short time frame. I felt after 45 minutes of reading that I knew the characters, and I love them. I felt like I knew the rules of the game and the contracts of this world of ghosts and exorcising

Jade Clarence is an exorcist, but she doesn’t like the way the family business handles exorcisms. Her great-grandfather started the business after his wife was killed by a spirit and his incantations destroy the soul of the spirit causing extreme pain to the ghost. Jade feels that she can find an incantation to send a spirit on without destroying the soul or causing pain. She also feels that a
