The word is to be prepared. The key will arrive. We must all be ready.

A conquered kingdom.
A nation on the brink of civil war.
A soldier prince tired of killing.
A lost heir.
And a court full of enemies.

The result?Young Adult fantasy at its finest.

Surely, fighting for what was right and what one believed in was worth the risk.Because if no one stood up against this tyranny,it would continue until they eventually lost their land, livelihood, and homes.

This book blew me away.
As a fantasy lover, this had it all. Kings, Castles, hidden princesses and a killer romance. Oh and the CLIFF HANGER AT THE END OMG JENNIFER HOW COULD YOU!

Jokes, love you and this book.

A engrossing fantasy with a kick ass female protagonist that would put Beyonce's confidence to shame. Wonderful world building and interesting story telling. Give me the rest of the series.

I am completely disappointed. What a one-dimensional story. Not everything is black and white. I didn't particularly like any of the characters. The mystery was too obvious and the insta-love made me want to stop reading it. I just...I just don't even know what to say. I don't want too sound too harsh or anything but the writing wasn't that good and the characters were either brave and perfect or evil and completely flawed. I am probably not going to read the sequel. Also, everyone who's saying

Heres a few things you need to know about The Key when you start it. Its a series, so yes the book will end on a cliffhanger. Im not spoiling anything from you because that warning was screamed at me prior to reading the book.

This is a YA book, so the steam is not there and the romance is mild, but plenty good in my opinion.

Theres a lot that goes on in the book, but it worked for me completely.

Reading YA fantasy books are something you have to be in the mood for and I was on the hunt

I can pretty much sum up this book the following way: DAMNYOUCLIFFHANGERSBUTHOLYHELLTHATWASAMAZEBALLS.

I went into this book knowing it was outside of my typical genre. I honestly anticipated a bit of a fluffy Romeo and Juliet-esque type of read. I couldn't have been more wrong.

Jennifer Anne Davis absolutely blew me away with The Key. The character development was phenomenal, the plot was an absolute page turner and the heroine was probably one of my ALL TIME favorites. It is typically very

Okay.. I really tried to finish reading this book. There were so many great reviews, but this didn't work out for me. I really hoped it would, but there were so many tropes and cliches I couldn't handle. So I really don't want to be harsh while reviewing this, but at the same time, I must explain few reasons why this didn't work out for me.

Alright, I'm confused. This book was a star rating roller coaster. It started at a solid 3 stars, I was enjoying the plot it was moving along at a decent pace and then things really started to hit the ceiling. I was 4 stars all the way...until the ending.

Personally, and this might just be me, but ending during the climax feels like such a wrong thing to do. Secrets were being discovered and it was building up and then it all came crashing down with that to be continued...

Other than that, I

I loved THE KEY so much! I was actually very surprised by how much I enjoyed it. Not because it didn't sound fantastic, because it did, but I kept putting it off for years, thinking it was one of those books that sounded fantastic, but turn out to be a load of junk. But I am so happy to say that was NOT the case here with THE KEY! Not at all, the complete opposite to be exact!

The world-building is what captivated me from the very beginning. I love a thick-plotted world with evil kings

This book definitely could have used some more editing and I would have enjoyed it infinitely more if it had felt more...eloquent. It's supposed to feel medieval, with castles and sword-fighting, but the dialogue is so modern, with the exception of a "my lady" thrown in here and there. But otherwise, I loved the sassy heroine and the prince whose loyalty was being tested and just the overall premise, though it's definitely not the first time I've read about a kingdom overthrown by another ...more

The Key is a riveting and breath-taking journey of an ordinary young girl who turns out to be anything but ordinary. Her story is one of bitter betrayal, profound love, and fierce determination. It is not one to be ignored or taken light, so heed this warning. Now, enter this story at the risk of your own heart, but dont let that make you shy away from the adventure and passion that awaits you.

I'm being generous with my grade. Yes, the premise was interesting and the writing made it easy to breeze through the book. However, there wasn't much book to breeze through. Not much happens in my opinion. The characters were not very complex and it was obvious who the good guys and bad guys were. No real character development. No world building outside the bare minimum. Not enough description overall.

I was very intrigued about 'the key' but the author didn't delve into that

This book was like a pot of all the books I love. It was a bit slow, but the story made up for it.

Surely, fighting for what was right and what one believed in was worth the risk.Because if no one stood up against this tyranny,it would continue until they eventually lost their land, livelihood, and homes.

Well that was a quick read! Even though not much happened in this first book, it got me really invested in the story and the characters pretty much right from the beginning! With that said, Im curious to see how things will play out in the next books *give me all the character development
I devoured this book but OMG that ending!!! I was left dumbstruck that it ended how it did! I hate cliffhangers in books but this book is too good to hate! Everything about it was amazing!

I'm not going to say too much about the plot for fear of ruining it so I'm going to just start with everything I loved!!

Rema was such a sweetheart and I loved her character. She is so nice and sweet but she isn't afraid to stand up for herself and what she thinks is right. My heart broke for her when she was

I had very low expectations for this book but it turned out quite well. This is by no means a literary masterpiece - the writing occasionally reminded me of fanfiction (good facfic but still), it has almost zero plot and the mystery itself is non existent since we know the main twist from the beginning.

And yet...It's fun XD It has all the tropes: long lost princess, damsel in distress, ruthless guy who's actually not that ruthless and has a soft spot for the girl, evil
Seventeen year old, Rema, has been raised by her aunt and uncle in the woods. She is young and a little wild and loves horses. Fate puts her in the paths of the brother princes of the kingdom. Darmik is the younger. He is commander of the king's army and surprisingly kind. Lennek is the Crown Prince, cruel and sadistic. Lennek is ordered by the King to choose a commoner as a wife, and to spite his younger brother (who showed mild interest in her), chooses Rema. Of course, he kills her fiance and ...more

4 1/2 stars: The Key (True Reign #1) is the story of Rema, the lost princess hidden as a commoner and the face of a revolution against the evil King. Only problem, Rema does not know her royal status and she is in love with the King's son Prince Darmick and engaged, against her will, to the King's wicked eldest son Prince Lennek. This story is a tangled web of secrets hidden in royal tattoos and anagrams. It is an easy, clean read that I would highly recommend to all ages and it is totally ...more

Recommends it for: everyone!
I love when an author can go from writing one style to another and Jennifer Anne Davis did it beautifully! This book is so different from The Voice and that would be a difficult book to top. But she accomplished that goal! This book is full of action, suspense, and my favorite, love. Her writing is so beautiful, it made me feel like I was right there with the characters. I felt the bonds that were created between the characters and the pain of the secrets that were kept from each other. I highly ...more
I found this little gem while cruising Audible and was instantly hooked! If you're a fan of YA Fantasy, I can't recommend this one enough. It has a tough but likable heroine, a strong hero, and villain I loved to hate. The storyline flows really well and found myself unable to put it down. It has a great cliffhanger, and I'm diving right in to book 2.

Thanks to Paula for confirming this book's greatness!

Audible Notes: Loved the accent of Michelle Michaels! She is an excellent narrator.

This ebook was free on Amazon at the time that I bought it...but I just checked and it's $3 now. Oh, well. It's still a good buy! The plot itself was extremely engaging - albeit not particularly original - to the point where I found myself speed-reading toward the end because I was breathless with wanting to know what was going to happen next. My main gripe with this book was while the story might have been entertaining, the actual execution of it was marked by young-sounding narrative and ...more

Overall I thought The Key was a pretty decent book. It had a. nice plot, a little romance and a little mystery. The only real reason I gave this book a 3.5 star instead of something higher was that Jennifer Anne Davis seems to have a bit of a show don't tell issue in the novel. There were several instances where I wish she would show us the information rather than explaining it in a narrative, or have one of the characters explain it. It would have made for a much better and

Handsome prince.
Strong willed and stubborn heroine.
Politics, pretty dresses, betrayal, jealousy, secrets.... I can just go on and on. But you can read for yourself FREE on your Amazon Kindle! So really you have NO excuse not to try it and see how you feel!

Rema was so easy to fall in love with. Full of life and confidence, yet a realistic person. She's not super strong, no powers, can't fight. She's just a normal girl forced into this horrible situation

The Key is the first book in the True Reign series by Jennifer Anne Davis. The True Reign series is a young adult fantasy series. Jennifer Anne Davis' Reign of Secrets series is my all time favorite young adult fantasy series. The Reign of Secrets series is the story of Princess Alyssa, which is the daughter of the couple in the True Reign series. So even though the two series can be read separately and can stand on

1.) I DID receive a copy of this book for MY honest review.
2.) I absolutely can NOT stand YA. Im sorry its just not my cup of tea.
3.) I completely hate cliffhangers.
4.) I am completely IN LOVE with this book and cant wait for the next book!

This book is your next MUST READ! A cover to cover, could not put it down, even if I tried kind of read. The characters just jump of the pages and the craving to know what happens next is intense. No words in this book are superfluous (apart from the last 4 .. but I will get to those) so read them carefully. All can i say is when the next part coming out :)

This story is told from multiple points of view which the author does a great job of transitioning between as you move through the story. The story kept me enthralled i am very invested in the characters in this story. I really felt like i was in the story line all the way up to the end and fair warning this is a great build up to what i am sure is going to be a fantastic 3 part story.
