Natalie Bouchard runs her grandmother's diner in small town Dearling, Texas. With her grandmother no longer able to work, Natalie has had little choice other than working the diner as a job. Sawyer Nolan, former Navy SEAL, left Dearling at eighteen, but has returned to sell up his late father's farm.

Natalie and Sawyer have history, albeit a brief one of a few weeks of teenage love before Sawyer up and left. When a storm strands them together at Sawyer's farm, the ties and attraction they had as

Amber Lin is an author who knows how to write darkly emotional, deeply sensual stories. I read – and loved – her Lost Girls series, though I have to be in the mood for a story that will rip my heart out, chew it up, then put it back together again, each and every time. I look forward to these stories because sometimes they’re exactly what I need.

When I saw Chance of Rain at Netgalley, I knew I had to read it, but honestly, I was expecting a darker story,

This was such a beautiful and satisfying story. Second chances meet unresolved love and longing, I LOVED IT. Throw in an anguished SEALS man returning to his hometown to sell the farm he grew up in only to find he's finally coming home. To the one woman that has gently haunted him since highschool.

Although Natalie and Sawyer spent 3 weeks together all those years back, the time together made an impact. Natalie was left heartbroken with Sawyer abruptly leaving to join the
Natalie Bouchard is stuck in time and seems to be waiting for something she's yet to define. The grandmother who raised her and ran the town's diner is now permanently residing in assisted care because she's now suffering from irreversible dementia. By keeping everything status quo, Natalie believes her grandmother might remember her old life if she ever visits the diner. And, deep down, she also believes her high school sweetheart, Navy SEAL Sawyer Nolan, might return and resume their ...more

I really like Amber Lin, and even though the whole, "I'm a military guy and I'm coming back to my home town to see the girl I left behind" thing doesn't really due much for me, I had to give this one a try. And I enjoyed it, though it wasn't anything mind-blowing.

I feel terrible saying that I didn't love this narration because only a few months after this audiobook was released, the veteran voice-over actress that recorded this book passed away tragically and unexpectedly. See linky-->(

Holy shite!!! That was smoking HOT!

So this is my first Amber Lin read. I had no idea what to expect really. This story kind of had an old-fashioned feel to it. It's a story of small-town romance. Forgiveness. First love. Second chances.

Sawyer and Natalie's story was so sweet...and maybe even a little bit sad. I wanted to give them both a big giant hug!

Sawyer and Natalie fell in love in high school. So maybe it was puppy love. Young love. But it was love just the same. Natalie never dreamed of

Goodie, but it could have been better. The first half was stronger than the second and I really wanted an epilogue.
Still, I recommend it to you who wants to read a sweet and steamy story about friends to lovers. ;)

“I was telling the truth out there. I don’t know what I’m doing here. I can’t promise to stay.”

She should accept that, should let him off the hook, but instead she asked,

“What can you promise?” The shadows lent his brown eyes an amber glow.

"If it were anyone, it would be you.”

Navy SEAL Sawyer Nolan never wanted to return to Dearling, Texas but when his father passed he had to return. In and out was Sawyer's plan, the memories surrounding the town and his father are too brittle and Sawyer doesn't want to reopen those wounds. That is until he walks into the diner owned by Natalie Bouchard.

Sawyer had walked away from Natalie once and it looks like time has not tampered with the chemistry they once had. Sawyer wants Natalie, but Natalie isn't interested in being a

I’ve seen author Amber Lin around the place, but this was my first experience reading her work. Chance of Rain is a pleasant little story, with some really engaging writing, and with characters who feel relevant and contemporary.

As I’ve said a hundred thousand times over, reunion stories are my favourites, and so this book was on my good side from the outset.

It’s also true that I’m not a fan of ‘Navy SEAL returns to small hometown’ stories, because they’ve been Done To

Amber Lin has a way with words.

She made a typical plot of lost navy soldier who went home reconnected with his high school sweetheart become a heart warming story with her writing. It wasn't perfect but still a good read.

It was refreshing that a town could be accepting and that there were no antagonist in the story. The only problems the main characters have, are themselves. How to move on, accept their past and looking forward. I like how the book ended, although with uncertainty, but the

Happy sigh.

Sawyer grew up with a father who was distant and pushed him too hard. He never felt adequate enough. So he leaves town right when he turns eighteen, enlisting in the army without looking back. Without saying goodbye to a heartbroken girl.

Natalie plants her roots in her hometown, running her grandmother's diner when she falls ill to dementia. She loves the people and the place, but she feels like she's settling.

When Sawyer returns years later to sell his family farm, there's still a

After reading her Lost Girls series of books I came to count on Ms. Lin for an intensely emotional read that puts you through the wringer. Chance of Rain is a quieter story that's no less emotional but doesn't rip your heart out quite as painfully as the books of hers I've read before. It's a tale of reunited lovers who in some ways are still living in the past which affects their journey to HEA. With small town idiosynchrocies as the backdrop there's a bit of added charm and a sense of ...more

I read a fair number of small town series (Ruthie Knox's Camelot, Shannon Stacey's Kowalski's and Jill Shalvis' Happy Harbor series) I tend to avoid books set in farming communities. I spent five years living in the prairies of Alberta and I have learned as much as I needed to about the toils and travails of farming communities.

Chance of Rain reunites former high school sweethearts, Natalie and Sawyer. Natalie looks after her Gram's diner and Sawyer left behind his father's farm for a career

Review Excerpt:

What I love the most about Chance of Rain is how Amber Lin uses every word to build a whole world in the one small Texas town with stories and descriptions that put us there by showing instead of telling. We learn so much about not only our hero and heroine, but also the town, its more colorful members, and the environment which formed Natalie and Sawyer into the adults they have

This book sucked me in. I have enjoyed all of Amber Lim's books and this one was no exception. I am not always a fan of the "farming community" kind of small town books, but have to say I really enjoyed this one. Natalie has take over the diner her Grandmother had always run, but was really in a rut about running it. Her high school honey, who left home to become a Navy Seal returns home to sell his father's farm, but really want to see Natalie again. This story rang true to me for the most ...more

This was a nice romance packed full of chemistry. The romance was great, and I liked the characters even though Sawyer could be an idiot sometimes.

The problem was depth. I wanted more storyline and more personality. However, this was still pleasant.

Oh I really liked Natalie! Maybe she's a bit of a familiar character but she works for me. She's a small-town girl, through and through. She loves Dearling and is happy to stay there for the rest

This is my first time reading a book from this author and I enjoyed it. It was a short and fast pace read and involved a military man. I am a stickler for anything military so it was full speed ahead for me. As I mentioned this was a short read, I hope to see a little more of Sawyer and Natalie in the future.

Sawyer is a tortured Navy SEAL who has returned back home after his father’s death to sell the farm he grew up on. He is coming home to a place that has held a

” ‘You make me a lot of things Miss Natalie Bouchard, but crazy isn’t one of them. I got there without your help.’ “

So here’s the thing: I like my romances all dark and twisty and kinky edgy. BUT, apparently I also love second chance romances that are lighter, heartwarming, charming, sexy, (and maybe just a teeny bit kinky), as long as they are written just like this book. That’s not to say that Chance of Rain is all sugary sweetness and

Sawyer left his small hometown behind, not bothering to really say goodbye to the only one who took residence in his heart. He has come back to get his father's house ready to sell and get out of town again, but he sees Natalie and all those feelings that were buried come back. Natalie lived in a small town her whole life. She took care of most of the people in that town at her Grandmother’s diner. It was important to her to keep something that her Grandmother loved close to her, so she didn’t ...more

This is a quick read, falling somewhere between a novella and a full-length novel. It's a sweet but steamy story of second chance love. But don't let the shorter length fool you. What this story lacks in length, it makes up for in content.

The two main characters, Natalie and Sawyer, are portrayed and developed really well. They have a history together, but more than that, they have many years apart. We don't just get to see them as misplaced high school sweethearts, we get to see them as the

It's funny how after all those years a spark of chemistry between two people can still be there and Sawyer well that boy sure doesn't mind showing it, "he glanced, pointedly, at her ring finger. Her empty ring finger. Then his gaze slid away, but it was too late. She'd seen his interest, and - oh, hell, she was interested too." Natalie I'm proud of her for standing her ground on things, "no," she repeated, her voice tinged with bitterness. "So I'm good enough to cop a feel in the dark but not ...more

This book had me by the throat and would not let go. I started it Sunday afternoon and I picked it up every single chance I got. It was sooooo good. This book was all about Natalie and Sawyer. There was no other conflict to split the focus, nothing else to deal with but just the two of them. I loved it. It was intimate, intense and so freaking sexy. I felt like I was intruding at times...the moments between them. Gah.

Natalie lives in a small town that she has lived in all her life. She runs the local diner owned by her grandmother who is now in a rest home. She has a simple routine live where nothing much changes.

That is until the day that Sawyer Nolan walks into her diner. Her high school romance who walked away from her to be a Navy SEAL. He is back in town to sort out his deceased father's farm and then he is moving on.

Sawyer becomes a daily visitor to the diner and
