• OH WOW this is good. Even if you have not read the other two it is a stand alone. BUT do read the other two as one of the very few authors out there who does not have half of previous book in the next. And each book is more like coming home to good family. You will fall in love with Fortune, Gertie and Ida Bell and maybe a bit of drool over Carter. But the most important thing that will happen is you will laugh and laugh and laugh out loud. Jana can spin a tale that you are right in the scene ...more

This wasn't my favorite of the Miss Fortune series. I thought the story was good, though getting even less believable because the stories occur in such a short time span. My favorite part of these stories is the humor and witty banter and this one was good, but not as good as the previous book in that area. I will still continue with the series because I really enjoy these Sinful ladies.

By the way, for anyone interested, Sinful, Louisiana has its own website. The can check it out here: http://s

This is the hardest rating I have ever given. I liked the story, it was funny and the characters were quirky, but I find that I am less into the cozy mystery genre than I have been. Maybe because it was a favorite genre that I have been reading for at least 30 years-- starting with the different Charlotte Macleod series', Mrs. Polifax series and the Death by Demand series... Maybe it has just been too much and I need a larger break than I thought.

Still, I would recommend this book to cozy myster

In the two weeks CIA assassin Fortune Redding has been hiding in Sinful, Louisiana, she’s been harassed, poisoned, and shot at…and that was the easy part. But now, she’s about to face her biggest challenge since setting foot in the tiny bayou town.

This is the third book in the Miss Fortune series, set in Louisiana. I have no idea why I'm still reading these. They are mediocre at best and not nearly as funny as they could be. I felt like the comedic relief in this one was all done in the previo

If you're a citizen of Sinful, Louisiana, your odds of dying before nature intends are pretty high. Fortune Redding has only been in town, hiding out from an arms dealer she pissed off on one of her missions as a CIA agent, for three weeks but already there have been three murders...in a town of just about 300 people. Clearly, reading this series demands a complete suspension of disbelief...especially when you have to account for the utterly crazy "missions" that Fortune and her two ov

Swamp Sniper by Jana Deleon was not a disappointment. I couldn't get book #2 from my library so I skipped on to this one. I know I missed another fun romp with Fortune, Ida Belle and Gertie with book #2 but I'll go back and get it when it's available.
Ms. Deleon's imagination is amazing when it comes to what she puts these ladies up to and I'm glad. Another wild ride as Fortune, Ida Belle and Gertie are now investigating a murder that has implicated Ida Belle. I laughed till I cried at their str

This series is laugh out loud funny and, although, it is a little unbelievable it has a very worthy suspense/mystery plot. In only three weeks in the little town of Sinful, Louisiana there has been a string of murders and mayhem. The only new element in town is Miss Fortune, who is a librarian who has come to town to settle her aunt's estate, at least that is her "cover". Fortune is actually a CIA assassin who is in hiding from a terrorist who wants her dead. I cannot wait to see what happens in ...more

Swamp Sniper by Deleon is the third hilarious installment in the Miss Fortune mystery series. After a near brush with death, Fortune tries to keep out of trouble by trying to assist Ida Belle with her run for mayor. When Ida's competition turns up poisoned and the same poison is found in a bottle of "cough syrup" given to him by Ida, the trio resorts to their usual antics to insure that Ida Belle is cleared. It doesn't take long to figure that the list of people with reason to kill Tom is quite ...more

Swamp Sniper is book 3 in the Miss Fortune Mystery series. I cannot get enough of these books. They are so funny. I started to binge listen to this series a few days ago and I find that I don't want to turn them off so I am blowing through them really quickly. I really like the characters and the whole who-dun-it aspect of the story. I don't have a lot of experience with Cozy Mysteries yet but from what I have read so far, I think this is a genre that I will really enjoy for years to come. I typ ...more

A funny and fun read

I usually read more complex mysteries and thrillers, but don't let the humor and light hearted set of this book steer you away from an opportunity to enjoy the efforts of this very able author. This is my third or fourth book by this author. For me it's not just about the mystery, it's about the eccentric, odd but totally believable characters, and the wild ride that takes you sliding and squealing to the conclusion. I have only read her Miss Fortune series so far, but I have

Swamp Sniper by Jana DeLeon is the 3rd book in the Miss Fortune Mystery series. When her rival for the position of mayor of Sinful, Louisianna, is murdered, Ida Belle becomes chief suspect. This series just keeps getting better. A light, very entertaining and very funny book that will keep you laughing. Fortune seems to get herself in a lot of strange situations. The scene in the church where the corpse lets off gas was hilarious. The narrator for this series is superb.

These books about the small town of Sinful, LA. are such fun to read. The characters are lively with a great sense of humor and the mysteries convoluted and not always so easy to figure out. Very enjoyable books by Jana Deleon.

I can't help but adore this cozy mystery series! Finally things are getting traction between Carter and Fortune. I was wondering how many books it would take before a hint of a romance would start between those two. :)

When the mayor candidate is killed, everyone thinks that Ida Belle did it since she was running for mayor as well. However, that is not at all what happened. Fortune and her friends must do everything they can to try to clear Ida Belle, even if that puts someone else at risk.

This was another great addition to the series. I thought Fortune was awesome in this one, and she is finally starting to realize that she enjoys what she is doing now, and is learning to have close feelings for all those ne

I really get a kick out of these books. I laugh a lot at the escapades that Miss Fortune and the little old ladies get into. I like that they have romance, but it’s more of a side note. These are a great light read and I highly recommend to anyone who wants to be entertained.

Very predictable. Same premise and action that was in first book

2020 bk 91: A local election. Even without our terrific trio of main characters a local election can call to minds all sorts of mischief, but add in Sinful, Louisiana and you've got a crime. In this case, one of the mayoral candidates is murdered and Ida Belle is the chief suspect. Follow Fortune and her sidekicks as they seek out the real criminal in this fun story.

I was listening to this book early this morning in bed. I couldn't contain my laughter and my husband thought I was ill. Then I couldn't tell him I was fine, because I couldn't catch my breath. This series is so fun you really need to give it a try.

When the author is not trying to force chemistry on her main couple, they are adorable. When she does...well, it comes across more awkward and less sexy.
But Gertie is still #goals so extra star.

I read the Miss Fortune series when I need a light hearted, amusing mystery. I like the Miss Fortune character, a trained assassin on the run to avoid a high level hit, holed up in a very small quirky town called Sinful. The old ladies who "adopted" her are a bit cutsey and improbable, and there is quite a bit of inane banter that can get tedious. But the shenanigans are amusing.

All the Miss Fortune series are funny. Need to read them in order

This time Ida's political rival is murdered and Ida is the prime suspect.

What I enjoyed:
* the town of Sinful is crazy and it fun to read about
* Ida and Gertie are unique and I can only hope to have 1/2 their energy when I'm that old

What could have been better:
* I am amazed Carter lets all the lies go as they aren't that good at covering up.
* And for a current CIA agent and former operatives, they are horrible at stealth

These are fun and all, but I do wish the reveals of the murder felt more shocking. You start to realize who it might be, and then the story sort of fizzles out. However, I’m listening to the audiobooks, and the narrator is so amazing that I’m just along for the ride. Thank God for Gertie and Ida Belle.

Fortune, Ida Belle, and Gertie return for more adventures in Swamp Sniper by Jana DeLeon, and this time it is Ida Belle who is in trouble. Figuring that since she has run Sinful, Louisiana behind the scenes for decades, Ida Belle has decided to get paid for it by running for mayor. As campaign favors, she and her fellow members of the Sinful Ladies Society pass out bottles of Sinful Ladies Cough Syrup, a.k.a. the best moonshine in town. At 3 in the morning after the campaign rally, Fortune waken ...more

This is the 3rd book in this series and as the previous 2 books have gone to show Jana Deleon knows her stuff when it comes to small town Louisiana. The nosy trio is at it again solving crimes much to the chagrin of the local deputy Carter. This time around we come into a small town mayoral election where Ida Belle is running for mayor against a newbie Ted Williams to Sinful, LA. No one knows what exactly brought the newbie Ted Williams and his obnoxious and irritating wife to small town USA. Of ...more

Jana DeLeon is a new author for me and for that matter so is the narrator Cassandra Campbell. I seemed to have dove into this series in book three. The protagonist, Fortune Redding, is a CIA assassin with a price on her head. The agency has her stashed in Sinful, Louisiana as a vacationing librarian from New England. Fortune becomes friends with two elderly ladies, Ida Bell and Gertie, who are military veterans and former CIA operatives in Viet Nam. Ida Bell is running for Mayor. Her opponent Te ...more

The third book in the Miss Fortune Mystery series by Jana Deleon. The third week of Fortune Redding's hiding in Sinful, Louisiana and her new friend, Ida Belle, is running for Mayor. But when the other mayoral candidate, Ted Williams is murdered, Ida Belle is the first suspect. But Fortune is determined to prove her friend's innocence.

Another fun and humorous adventure with the Geritol Mafia! Now I'm aware that true CIA agents would never be as clumsy and accident prone as Miss Fortune but it wa

Third in the Miss Fortune series. Things are moving along in Sinful, LA. If you thought things were quiet in a small, southern town along the bayou, think again. So funny. I couldn't put it down.

New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Jana DeLeon was raised in southwest Louisiana among the bayous and gators. Her hometown is Carlyss, but you probably won't find it on a map. Her family owned a camp located on a bayou just off the Gulf of Mexico that you could only get there by boat. The most important feature was the rope hammock hanging in the shade on a huge deck that stretched ou ...more

“True,'' Ida Belle said, ''but despite all of that, he's still interested. I may be an old maid, but I know what male interest looks like.''
Gertie waved a hand at her. ''Walter slipping you a free pack of toilet paper with your grocery order hardly qualifies as the ultimate in male interest. But despite Ida Belles overblown description of her knowledge of how men think, I think she's right this time”
