It goes on to explain Luther’s “protest,” its theological implications, how the protest escalated, and the Catholic Church’s response. It concludes with an analysis of how the Reformation helped launch the modern ...more

4.5 of 5 stars – A Fast, Enlightening History Lesson (for the common man).
(I'm excited to have won this as a Goodreads First Read – so thanks, Robert!)

Wow, talk about changing history! This short, enjoyable read made me realize that we are coming up to, in 2017, the 500-year anniversary of what I’ve learned is a seminal event in world history – Luther’s nailing his “Ninety-Five Theses” to the door of the Wittenberg cathedral.

Robert Freeman’s writing style is clear and succinct, in a language th

The Protestant Reformation is the second one in this nonfction One-Hour History books that I've read. I first read and reviewed The Renaissance and simply loved it. So when they asked me if I wanted to review more I said yes, of course and asked for this one and The Scientific Revolution, which I should be reading soon.

Now I might not know a lot about this topic, though things like this have always intrigued me, I did like knowing and learning more. I especially liked the bit towards the end abo

I have to say, in terms of usefulness and convenience, this book did an excellent job in clearly explaining and outlining the causes and effects of the Protestant Reformation.

Before this book, I had trouble connecting the different events in the Reformation but this book put them in proper conte

The Protestant Reformation: The Best One-Hour History is another title on a growing list of impressive writing. Mr. Freeman's highlighting of only the major times, thoughts and instigators or the Reformation as well as the resulting uproar those people and thoughts caused is displayed out in a clear cut manner which encourages the reader to seek other material to round out the knowledge of this period of time. The writing, as always in these primers, is clear and concise, well structured and co ...more
