Before I discuss the book, I want to point out two things: 1) I do not understand the cover at all. It is not visually appealing nor does it tell you anything about the story. It looks like it may possibly be a weird angle shot of street signs, but the way the picture is, I can't be sure. 2) The book description I read on Amazon, which I posted above, is a bit misleading. It says the story is about "the bad things that are happening to the people around him," but it's HIM that causes a lot of th ...more

The book begins with a man waking up in an unfamiliar room and finding the door to the bedroom locked. When he rattles the knob and someone opens the door, he immediately kills the man along with another one down the hall. From there, we are led on a long winded, tense-changing tour of the entire house accompanied by social commentary like (about the cheaply furnished kitchen) "Overall, it seemed to be one of those stereotypical apartments that shady characters would rent, use and vacate without ...more

The Anchor That Stopped The World (Agostino Scafidi)

Martin Rizzo wakes up in a strange room not knowing where he is at or how he got there. He is determined to find out what happened. People are getting killed and Martin wants to find out who is doing this and why. He will soon find out his own life is in danger. How far is he willing to go to get these answers?

A fast paced murder/mystery/suspense. Well written with action, murder and suspense. This is the first book written my Agostino Scafidi,

I was given this book by the author for review.

I do enjoy a puzzle and this story plunged me straight into the action and the enigma. I don't give spoilers but I will say that this book is a well written crime novel with a difference and will keep you on your toes through all the twists and turns.

Martin Rizzo found himself in a rather precarious situation having woken up in a strange bed in a room he didn’t know, dressed in the same clothing from the day before. He pondered how he had possibly wound up there?

Wondering what he should do, he decided to open the door to discover what he could see. However, not only was the door locked but the window was nailed shut as well. He found a nail and attempted to pick the lock on the door without any success. Just then, the door opened and

Note: I received a copy of this text in exchange for an honest, unbiased review.

I was excited to start reading this book. With a title as bold and presumptuous as The Anchor that Stopped the World I thought for sure I was going to jump into a literary stunner.

I could not have been more wrong.

It is evident at the onset of the text that either Scafidi submitted his rough draft instead of final product or that he was just an awful writer. The text is plagued by tense changes, passive voice, ne

The storyline is good. Interesting and suspenseful. A good crime plot. The synopsis of the story is a little misleading though. It states that the main character has "curiously super-hero like abilities", when in fact the main character just knows how to fight well. We never know why, we just know that he does.
This story is not appropriate for younger audiences. There's a lot of profanity and some violent scenes.

What really hurt this story were the numerous grammatical errors and the lack of in-

The plot was amazing. Anyone who loves to read about murder, angst, crime, and evading the police would definitely get a kick out of this. Plot wise, there is truly nothing to be desired. The characters are alive, full of action, and surprisingly realistic. Scafidi truly captures the essence of what being a criminal is. He captures the inner ego of a person intent on revenge, on avenging a person he cared about. The way Scafidi describes the protagonist's, Martin Rizzo's, thirst for revenge is s ...more

Martin wakes up disoriented and tries to escape from where he is. Dropped right into the middle of the action, you find out what happen to Martin as he does, in a sort of video game-esque real time. As he tries to piece together his lost hours, things get more bizarre and take on a nightmarish quality.

Written in a unique style, you start to feel Martin’s confusion, desperation, and panic for yourself.

“The anchor that stopped the world” has a film noir feel to it, with very gritty language. It is

Meet Martin Rizzo who wakes up in an unfamiliar house, taken captive, drugged, purse and other personal belongings stolen. He manages to escape, but trigger a fast-paced hunting game to go after his attackers, and vice versa. Find youself in the cruelties of the Montréal criminal scenes. You will not find real character development, multi-layered storylines, or a hidden plot in The Anchor That Stopped The World. It's a straightforward race for survival. The booklet is not intended for younger au ...more

The Anchor That Stopped the World was a decent read. Suspenseful, it keeps you turning the pages. However, I would have liked for the author to have varied the sentences and to have edited the book more. I rate this book a three star read.
