I think I read a different book than everyone else who has commented because I couldn't even finish this one and I NEVER put a book down, no matter how bad it is, but I just could not bring myself to read one more page.

I read this book over the summer as a beta reader and I really enjoyed it. Nathan is a very likeable character and his sarcastic personality fits in well with his group of friends. I really like the supernatural world Steve has created and you can tell there was a lot of pre-thought and planning going on before writing this story.

The first chapter drew me in and I was hooked. I was so concerned about Leah and what the heck was happening to her. I wasn't a fan of the protagonist of the story at first (Nathan) because he is so sarcastic and it has been done a lot in YA books. However, as I kept reading Nathan is actually quite funny and says things that I was thinking about certain characters and situations. This story was great! I usually read YA paranormal-romance, but I really liked this story. Even though some of the female characters in the story liked to shop and do "typical" girl things, and what not, they are not weak and I liked that. Lafonda is my favorite and I like that she wants to get right in there with the boys.

I received this book in exchange for an honest review (Lovers of Paranormal). I am not one to put a book down unfinished, but I seriously thought about it. Instead, I whipped through it hoping it would get better. It didn't. I read a lot of YA, but this was more for somebody 12 or 13. The juvenile banter, the necrocritters, seemed more suited to middle grades than college students.
If I could give this negative stars I would. OMG

The The Legend of the Firewalker is a paranormal book written ad self-published by Steve Bevil. The plot is centered around a group of teenagers some of whom will discover and use special powers to fight dark and powerful forces. Given the plethora of YA paranormal books being published in the last few years, I did not find this outline particularly original.

It took me so long to finish this book that, until I turned the last page, I wasn't even sure I'd finish it in the first place.
The story is okay, nothing fancy and nothing too weird either. Some of the characters (there is just too many pointless characters in this, what the hell) were nice to read. I could not finish it. I don't know what book these other people are reading that gave it five-stars because it was not this one. The writing seemed very amateurish, at best. The dialogue was one step up from "Hey, man, what's happening?" "Nothing much. What are you up to?" Dialogue is meant to move the story forward and provide the reader with back story and useful filler information--sometimes even foreshadowing. I found this book to read very slowly and is taking all my effort to pick it back up. I can't even bring myself to finish it which is unfortunate because the ideas behind the story itself could have made for a very interesting read and am curious how the events will play out, however the writting itself and the main character are lacking. I found the main character to be quite a downer and whiney with the constant dialogue between himself. That in itself made the book very confusing at most part

I was very disappointed with this book. It started out ok, but once it got to Nathan it went down hill. He talked to himself way too much and was annoying. I had to re-read parts because they didn't make sense. The writing style was very elementary. The author explained things that didn't need to be explained. This book just took too long to get anywhere. Much of the dialogue was underwhelming, and at times just didn't feel believable. Many adjectives didn't make sense for the scenes. There was enough hair flipping to give the girls whiplash. The flow of the writing never fell into place. I think the first half of this book could easily have been written in one or two chapters. I can't wait to read more from this series! Suspense, twists and turns meets a young man cast into another "world". Nathan's ornery character is a perfect contrast to the dark and formal workings around him. The different characters are so well defined that a book to movie transition would not be difficult. It's a book and series with a wide world to fall into and relate. Moments of intimacy of heart and friendship balanced with skirmishes of adventure.

I got this book because the description of what it was about was interesting. I tried and I do mean tried to read the whole book. But I just couldn't get into it. No matter how much I read. I wanted to finish but couldn't.
This is an absolute thriller! Very well put together. I recommend it to anyone. It will rival Harry Potter in my opinion.

It started off grabbing your attention in the beginning with Leah and her nightmare dreams. I did find it a little slower when it focused more ion Nathan and it left you wondering what happened to Leah. but about half way through the book the story picked up and grabs your attention all the way to the end. It definitely left me wanting to read the second book to see what happens to these characters next.

Great book and awesome storytelling. I recommend it to any teen, adult, or young person looking for a world they can escape to that isn't boring. The writing style is cinematic and combined with the plot/action/characters, it could easily be adapted to a movie.

This book was hard to get through. In all fairness I think it's giving you a lot of information to set you up for the follow ups. I think the story progresses too slowly. However, I do like the subject matter and I think the next book could be much better if the story moves along faster.
