I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review for my stop on the blog tour at Donnie Darko Girl.

The synopsis for A Sleep So Dark was so utterly intriguing to me that I knew I had to read this. And what better time of year than close to Halloween? The entire premise just sounded so deliciously creepy to me that I couldn't resist. I love discussing dreams and the conscious/unconscious - as an undergrad studying for my degree in Psychology, I didn't put a lot of stock into Freudi

A Sleep So Dark was not what I was expecting. I was looking for more of a horror feel with waking dreams and craziness, but that is not what I really got. These teens go to this sleep camp to help them with their nightmares. The camp is lead by creepy Dr. Gillman and his son Cade, whom Tandy has an instant crush on. The two of them seem to like each other, but Cade is very standoffish and tries to stay away.

The book starts off with everyone mee

Where, OH, where do I begin?? This book had me on the edge of my seat! I couldn't swipe my finger fast enough! A Sleep So Dark begins with Tandy, who has suffered from violent nightmares since the horrible car accident that took her mother's life. Tandy had been in the car and survived. Ever since that night, the accident has haunted her. Closing her eyes at night becomes a bitter punishment of guilty and anxiety that holds Tandy captive. Finally giving in to her father's pleas, Tandy is sent to ...more

Tandy suffers from terrifying nightmares; she’s had them ever since the accident that killed her mother. The nightmares are so bad that Tandy does everything she can to stay awake.

Tandy’s father becomes more and more concerned for Tandy’s well being and sanity, so he enrols her in an experimental sleep retreat in a remote cabin in the Colorado Wilderness.

There are 4 other sleep troubled teens enlisted too; Bodie, Julian, Ione and Katelyn. The retreat is run by Dr Robert Gillman; who claims he ca

*I received this book from the author in exchange for an honest review*

A Sleep so Dark is a YA romantic suspense with some paranormal elements. I was definitely pulled in from the start by the blurb. I've always been somewhat fascinated by dreams. In the first few pages I developed an intense dislike for Dr. Gillman. He's a real piece of work. Overall this novel was quite suspenseful making it a quick read. Though it started a bit slow, halfway through it was very difficult to put down.

This is a grim masterpiece that embraces the macabre, the paranormal and real life, which terrified me to no end!

This story starts out with circumstances similar to what you might hear about on morning shows, talk shows, or documentaries. The desperate act of choosing a teen “camp” to help them overcome frightening afflictions is one that our society deals with regularly. The author’s illness of choice is a rather unique form of torture, though, with a ghostly bonus. The real world we live in i

One of the things that I enjoyed about this book was its story about teenagers headed to an isolated retreat to help treat their sleep disorders. Each of them suffer from terrifying nightmares and Dr. Gillman believes that he can help them conquer their dreams with his new treatment program. Tandy McIntyre suffers from horrible nightmares after witnessing the death of her mother from a car crash. Each night, she replays this event over and over again to the point where she is avoiding sleep at a ...more

Holy cow, the next time you have insomnia because of night terrors and you are faced with the option of inpatient treatment versus attending a week long retreat in the snowy mountains for treatment with a new breakthrough in dream therapy, trust me, go for the inpatient treatment. A Sleep So Dark is a scary nightmare of a story with murder, mayhem, and a unique element of the supernatural that had me grinning with glee at each little blip in the journey. There is an element of insta-attraction, ...more

Wow! I don't normally read scary stories because I have an overactive imagination and end up having nightmares and yes I am 50 so I should be over that right, but NO! Anyway, despite this being a rather scary book I loved it!!! This was a very interesting story about dreams and very scary ones that end up affecting people's lives so that they don't want to sleep because of them. I hate nightmares myself so it was interesting to see these teens trying to conquer their bad dreams and trying to fig ...more

This was a fantastic read! It pulled me in immediately and was plenty mysterious. I knew some serious stuff was going to go down, but that's about it. I had no idea what could happen and the twists and turns caught me unawares.

The paranormal aspect was pretty unique, and while dreaming themes have been done before, this was different from anything else I've read.

The secondary characters were fleshed out just enough to be able to imagine them, but without them taking over the story. The main ch

Such a fun read with all the ingredients my 14 year-old and I both enjoy: mystery, suspense, a dose of the paranormal, and of course - romance! If you have ever had nightmares so bad that you didn't want to go to sleep (and who hasn't!) you will relate to Tandy and her terrifying situation. The characters are very believable and the dialogue flows easily, making you feel like you are there in the blizzard with the group, wondering just who you can trust! What a dark bone chilling thriller! I was on the edge of my seat waiting to see what happened next. This story was fast paced leaving all sorts of things to the imagination and I loved ever last minute of it! The characters seemed to be lifted right off of the pages and in my mind were as real as you and me. I felt a connection to them all in one form or another and it was heart wrenching at times to see them struggle with their own inner demons. A Sleep So Dark is one book that I can honestly s ...more

I adore Inara Scott's writing style and when I heard that she wrote another YA book I was literally jumping for joy. A Sleep so Dark was amazing. Inara definitely took this book to a whole new level by making the evil villain or I guess evil spirit appear in dreams. This sounds ironic to me seeing that I read this book at two and three in the morning and then went back to sleep after words. That's okay though, no nightmares for me, thankfully. As always I relished every word. I'm always a happy ...more

I thoroughly enjoyed this haunting book. In some ways, it reminded me of And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie and The Shining by Stephen King. The characters were a bit one dimensional and stereotypical, but the plot was fantastic. I have to admit, I had the basic plot figured out a couple chapters into it, I just wasn't sure how it was going to play out. That being said, I would recommend this book for some quick rainy or snowy day reading. I would definitely read a sequel.

Super creepy book. I read this in October and it made Halloween that much more unnerving. Loved the characters and the idea behind the book. I often found myself reading and being grateful that I was warm and safe in my own house, unlike these poor "patients." *shivers* Inara Scott, you are a master at suspense!

I wrote my first book when I was in high school--a romance called "A Wild and Stormy Passion," which featured swordplay, kidnapping, a pirate heroine, and lots of naughty bits (that came entirely from my adolescent imagination!). Since then, I've written young adult novels and adult romances of the category, contemporary, and fantasy varieties. My books are romantic and sensual. I like strong wome ...more
