Nineteen-year-old Kitty Hawk’s preparations had been intense. With the help of many people, including her father, she was set to fly around the world in her seaplane, following in the footsteps of Amelia Earhart – therefore she was departing in March, as her heroine had done before her. First flying across Canada, she hopped from fuel stop to fuel stop, until she headed south to Florida where she took a rest stop in Florida Keys – and came across the story of Ernest Hemingway (whom she’d never ...more

CHARACTERS

I'm really loving Kitty and she's fast becoming one of my favorite female characters in fiction. Like I said with book 1, I sometimes feel like Kitty is younger than she is but in truth, that has more to do with the kind of protagonists I normally read than with Kitty. Kitty reminds me of Nancy Drew, a more adventurous and relatable Nancy Drew actually. I love

Kitty Hawk and the Hunt for Hemingway’s Ghost is the second book in a young adult adventure series. At the end of book one, we find out that Kitty has come up with a plan to fly her De Havilland Beaver seaplane around the world. This book is the very beginning of that journey which takes place in southern Florida in the Florida Keys. While there she takes of tour of Hemingway’s house and meets the tour guide who suggests to her that she should check out Fort Jefferson located at the Dry ...more

Welcome back to Kitty Hawk’s world, and I do mean world as this young aviatrix sets down in the Florida Keys, home to the great Ernest Hemingway, and quite possibly his ghost! But what would Kitty’s adventure be if she lazily swam, sunbathed and haunted the places of dead authors?

Mysterious lights, nefarious divers, sunken ships and where do we find Kitty? Right in the middle of a new mystery on the high seas. Something is fishy in Florida and Kitty has made it her mission to find out what is

In the second chapter of Kitty Hawk's series, we're taken away to the Florida Keys on an adventure. This one is probably my least favorite of the series so far, but it is still an enjoyable and educational read.

This book is encouraging of learning, that is, there is a ton of information in the story that is true. From the specific locations that Kitty visits or flies over, to some of the people she meets, to the animals that she encounters, there is a ton of real life knowledge threaded into the

Review by Mia Madden, aged 11.

This book is the second in the Kitty Hawk Flying Detective Agency series. In this edition Kitty has gone to Florida before starting her epic around the world flight. From the Florida Keys to Fort Jefferson, this girl's got a huge helping of history to look forward to.
While in Key West, one of the homes of Hemingway (the famous Author), she hears something that sends her mind spinning; the bell of a typewriter coming from his writing room. This noise takes Kitty on

I was quite surprised when I realized how much I loved being in Kitty Hawk's world when I picked this book, the second in the series, up. Don't get me wrong, I loved the first one, but I never did honestly expect to grow as attached to this world as much as I have. Kitty Hawk and the Hunt for Hemingway's Ghost follows Kitty as she and her trusty De Havilland

PG-13 for mild swearing throughout.
Recommend to readers looking for realistic, history-heavy adventure stories. Also for armchair adventurers and fans of strong heroines and little to no romance.

The sequel to Kitty Hawk and the Curse of the Yukon Gold did not grab me like its predecessor did. While it has more of a mystery angle than the first one, it lacks the same kind of compelling characters that really pulled me into that story. While Kitty does stumble into a mystery, she didn't have any

Kitty Hawk and The Hunt For Hemingway's Ghost is the second installment in Iain Reading's Kitty Hawk Flying Detective Agency series, I actually enjoyed this book even more than the first book seeing Kitty go on her own adventures and getting into some unknown trouble when she probably shouldn't but oh well! This book involves adventuring, sleuthing, snorkeling, and scary barracudas. I enjoyed this book because, like the first, there is adventure. This book had some Nancy Drew vibes which made my heart very happy as I will always love Miss Drew and her detective work. I flew through this book, and enjoyed it so much more than the first one. I loved that Kitty was on her own because it just showed the women can be independent. I think this set a good example for younger readers...

She looked in amazement to the figure whom she just saw coming out. Maybe she is ready to shout in disbelief-but turns dumb thinking the absurdity of the situation.
How can it be possible?
She is seeing the noble laurite author who has given the world some of the classics like The Old Man and the Sea, Far from the madding crowd etc. etc.
Is it possible that Earnest Hemingway- all in apiece with a blood and flesh body coming out?
She rubbed her eye in disbelief- no, it can’t be!

Kitty Hawk is vacationing in the Florida Keys where she encounters a mystery in the treacherous waters of the Gulf. Her adventures lead her to sunken shipwrecks, peculiar echoes of Hemingway's typewriter, and strange lights on the ocean floor. The history of the Keys unfolds as Kitty's curiosity propels her into danger and the uncovering of ancient secrets.

I loved every minute of this book! The plot takes many twists and turns that kept me wanting to read more. There is so much action and

There was about a year between when I read the first book, The Curse of the Yukon Gold and this one, the second book. I had very much enjoyed the first instalment of Kitty Hawk. Actually no, I surprisingly really loved my adventure with Kitty. She brought me to Alaska in her De Havilland Beaver ( sea plane) and taught me much more than how to spot a humpback whale.

This is why I can't believe I didn't read Iain Reading's next book so soon! The Kitty Hawk Flying Detective Agency series has

Oh, how I want to take a vacation in the sunny Florida Keys. Nevermind that my local weather is nice, this story conveys the beauty of the Keys so well that I want to experience it myself.

This book is a lot more laidback and not as dangerous feeling as the first, but the storytelling was just as amazing. Like the first book, I learned a lot about the history of the setting, without realizing it. I’m left with a sense of wonder about it, and the urge to know more. Luckily, the author was prepared

Book Cover

I enjoy this cover because it has little bits and pieces of what happens throughout the story. Each object on the cover is in the book and it’s almost as though the cover itself is a picture summary. The colors are bright and pretty, and while I like the font of the title, it is a little hard to read, especially with its size.

Kitty Hawk is a pilot that travels around the world. Each book is set in a certain place and we get to discover so much about it as the book keeps going. I think it’s a very nice way to give information to the younger people reading this series because they’re not directly given. The author merges them in the story so they become one, so it’s really creative.

This time it was set in the state of Florida and in book one,
