It’s hard not to like the stories in the Whispering Cove series mainly because the supporting cast is always there to lend a hand and help move the story along. In Stockings by McKenzie McKade, the secondary characters really made the story for me. While I liked the hero and heroine, their story was one that needed more words, more time than a novella can give. There was no doubt they felt an attraction but I didn’t feel the connection and their relationship felt rushed. I want to know what happens after the last chapter when the town realizes who the both really are.
When Tempest Sky arrives in Whispering Cove her RV breaks down leaving her no choice but to set up shop and earn some much needed cash for repairs. Officer Leo Caan is just doing his job when he asks Sky to leave the premises of a local store, something neither her nor several of the town’s residents find the least bit amusing. That’s just the beginning of their unique run-ins but Leo soon begins to realize Sky is hiding something because he recognizes the signs. As Sky begins to be accepted in the community her previous life comes crashing around her and she’s devastated that Leo was the one who set it all in motion.
I really admired the spirit of Sky, despite her upbringing she hasn’t led a normal life and she keeps moving along hoping to one day find the happiness she deserves. I felt for her when she arrived in Whispering Cove as some of the residents were less than friendly because of her outward appearance but I absolutely loved the way old-time Harold Adair took her under his wing and saw past all of that. I was actually a little surprised by how trusting she was of Harold but I think she was to the point where she felt she had nothing to lose.
Leo is one of those characters you can’t help but love but sometimes needs a swift kick in the rear. A little bit overzealous in his duties as one of Whispering Cove’s finest, Leo has a lot to learn about dealing with women. I believe he’s one of those people who has a hard time seeing the good in everyone and that’s probably because of his upbringing, and when he messes up he does so in spectacular fashion. I also love that when he’s wrong, he’ll admit it and he really does try to always do the right thing even if it hurts someone he’s close to.
Liking these characters wasn’t hard to do but I really didn’t feel the heat between them until the very end after Leo made a grand gesture to help Sky. However, despite the fact that this part of the book suffered a little I very much enjoyed watching Sky fall in love with the town and the people and the people realizing how wrong they were when they first judged her. It’s a good holiday story but not a great love story, for that we needed way more time.
While not my favorite in the Whispering Cove series, I still enjoyed Stockings and I wouldn’t have missed reading it because the town and its residents showed true holiday spirit with their support of Sky. It’s my hope as this series continues we’ll see more of how Leo and Sky are faring and some of my questions will be answered.

Mackenzie's Whispering Cove stories tend to be my favorite. STOCKINGS is no different because is completely out of the box! Talk about an unconventional couple, I wish I could've read more about Sky and Leo. And I think that's the one thing that would've made this a better story than it was. Although I enjoyed this a lot, I think it needed to be full length to really develop their romance.
Again one for great heroines, though! Sky is one of a kind. She puts on a goth, rebel facade to hide from her past and her problems. She's running from who she was and lands in Whispering Cove by accident. And sort of gets stuck there! Starting out as a the troublemaker and having run-ins with the law, the law being officer Leo, that part of the story was the hardest to grasp and believe. Not the run-ins but how the town just accommodated a total stranger. But maybe that's the non-small town girl in me.
Leo is so straight laced, by the book, and well..a cop! He's the complete opposite of Sky and I love seeing those opposite attract stories. The way one can tame the other just a bit, and the wilder side of the good boy can come out to play. Again, I would've like to see this developed further but I enjoyed what we got!
In the end though, I think this fell just short of how great the previous stories in the series were but it was still an enjoyable read. Always a charm to go back to this town.

This is a really enjoyable series, it always reminds me of the Harlequins I read in my youth. The only difference is these books are all sexed up, no closed bedroom doors here! They are generally formula romances but that does not make them any less entertaining.
This is the story of Leo the cop and drifter Sky, it was a really nice read but the romance wasn't as great as others in the series. It is more of her discovering and falling in love with Whispering Cove. And most of the time I just wanted her to deck Leo in all his zeal. He really needed a chill pill. I did love seeing all the residents we have met in other books and catching up with them.
This series has been an absolute delight and I hope we see more of Whispering Cove! These are really quick, fun and delightful Cotton Candy reads. Not every romance has to be drawn out and overly deep, sometimes you just want a yummy sweet treat instead of a six course dinner.

I love Whispering Cove! Skylar is a kick-ass heroine and there were times I wanted her to kick officer Leo's ass LOL...but she handled her stuff and it was great!
