This was written by a very good friend. This disclosure is important because i do not read any romance or comedic type books. What I found was a laugh out loud type story with a very funny main character. Sydney is so well developed so consistent that you can't help but be drawn in to her insanely funny view. I enjoyed this from start to finish and helped edit the upcoming sequel. This light-hearted story will at a minimum have you snickering and if you give in to its playful tale - smiling and ...more

I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.

French Twist is Glynis Astie's debut novel. It is loosely based on real life events. French Twist is a light-hearted love story.

The characters in French Twist were delightful. Louis is almost too good to be true; no one could have avoided falling for his charm. Sydney is a bundle of nerves who is filled with self-doubt due to undescribed prior dating fiascos. Their romance is a whirlwind. Friends and family are shoc

I purchased this book because it was $0.99 via Bookbub and it had really great reviews online. I figured this could be a sweet and light summer read. However, after the first few chapters, I found myself becoming increasingly irritated at the severe lack of depth and originality in both the characters and the plot line. The story follows a semi-eventful stream of one woman's casually neurotic everyday romance woes. Not so twisty considering this has already been done before. I literally stopped ...more

What a cute story! The zany, ok, crazy girl who is destined to stay single forever meets, falls for and has a whirlwind relationship with a hunky Frenchman. Stories that almost seem unbelievable, except that this book is loosely based upon the author's own life. I would guess there is more truth than fiction in this story. I wish Ms. Astie had delved a bit more into Sydney's disastrous dating history to help explain why she was so unsure of herself. Perhaps more will come in the next novel ... c ...more

Alright, I have to level with you. I don't read much chick lit these days even though romantic comedies are my fave thing in the world. Who doesn't love a good glass of vino, some chocolate, and a totally fabulous hunk sweeping a gal (just like you) off her feet?

At first I wasn't quite sure what to think... When Sydney says she's crazy, she means BUSINESS. At times, Sydney had me questioning my own sanity right along with her. But as I delved deeper into the story of her whirlwind romance and co

Inspired by her real life whirlwind six month romance and marriage to her French husband, Sebastien, author Glynis Astie weaves an entertaining romantic comedy series called The French Twist Series!

In French Twist, the first book in the series, the reader is introduced to Sydney Bennett, a single twenty-something New Yorker who has moved to San Francisco. Sydney hasn't been lucky in the romance area, but when she meets handsome Louis Durand, who is town on business, Sydney is swept off her feet

French Toast, and it's prequel French Twist, by Glynis Astie tell the story of how she met and married her French husband in six short month... and then proceeded to have three weddings, in three different time zones!

The plot was almost too cheesy to bear - until you remembered that it was based on a true story. Astie actually WAS swept off her feet by a charming Frenchman, and married him six months later! The fact that the story was true meant that instead of feeling annoyed at the fairytale l

This delightful tale tells the story of Sydney and Louis. Sydney is a human resources professional who has had a run of bad luck in the dating department. At a bar with a friend one night she meets Louis, a charming and attractive Frenchman who is temporarily in the city on assignment with his company. Sparks fly between them and what follows is a whirlwind courtship that is engagingly told in this romantic comedy.

I quite enjoyed this book! It is written in the first person point of view of Sydn

I can't believe that it took me so long to start this series! My apologies Glynis, I didn't know what I was missing. :)
Let me begin by saying that Sydney and I are more a like that I care to admit. From the trust issues with men, to horrible dating stories and major panic attacks! I am right there with ya Sydney!
She has the life that many of us could dream about. The ability to move across county, found an amazing job and...Ok so she doesn't have everything...her love life is in shambles.

Sometimes I want to get swept away in a book that reads like a fairytale - where a normal, down-to-earth girl meets an amazing man, falls head over heels in love and lives happily ever after. French Twist by Glynis Astie fits that bill like a glove.

Sydney Bennett lives a relatively ordinary existence as a single late twenty-something in San Francisco - she works during the day, lives with a roommate, has her share of nightmare relationships. And then one night, she meets Louis - a sexy, sophisti

I’m not a huge reader of chick lit but having said that I found myself enjoying this one very much, more so because the story is loosely based on the author’s own whirlwind romance. It’s light, fun, written with humour and happiness and all of that jumps off the page. It’s a real life fairy tale, girl meets handsome Frenchman and it’s love at virtually first sight.

Sydney Bennett is a mix of artlessness and anxieties with layers of zany. She’s the kind of woman most of us can relate to i

French Twist is a very light, quick read, excellent for summertime.

Finding out that this book was based loosely on the authors life, I found the tale more charming. New York native Sydney Barrett has transplanted herself in California, where she meets Frenchman Louis Durand. Once the whirlwind romance is in full bloom, the book takes on the believable complexity of introducing and melding families located in three different parts of the world.

The tale is told from Sydney's perspective. In her la

What shines through more than anything in this whirlwind romantic comedy is Astie's joy in writing! Her characters are so real and familiar and so lovable. The comedy keeps rolling along throughout, through heroine's Sydney's dating misadventures and even through her EXPECTED misadventures - she is a little nuts. But it is her off-kilter perspective that keeps the giggles coming. Astie's talent with turning a phrase or injecting a pop culture reference heighten the delight. Looking forward to th ...more

Based on real life events, French Twist is a beautiful love story that really makes you believe that love at first sight is possible. But then again how could you not fall in love with the amazing Frenchman Louis - aka Bluey? The main character, Sydney, was very relatable - especially given the situation. I love how the author shared all the "crazy" thoughts running through Sydney's head… If I was in Sydney's shoes, I'd probably be thinking the same thing. I look forward to reading more by this ...more

Sweet and with no bitter aftertaste.

I usually stick to the murder mystery genre. The title intrigued me and soon I was finding myself engulfed in one of the best first novels ever.

It was alright but for some reason the story just never clicked with me.
French Twist tells the story of Sydney Bennett, a young woman and perfectionist who had given up on love until meeting a charming French man, Louis, whose Paris company had sent him to work in California. Within days, the new couple have fallen in love, restoring Sydney’s faith in men and romance. People may think they’re crazy, especially when Louis mentions marriage in just a matter of weeks, but their chemistry and connection are both undeniable. Can Sydney stop worrying long enough to enjoy ...more

I received the book from the author for an honest review.

I really found the writing of the author refreshing and lively. It was filled with the emotional ups and downs of the main character, Sydney Bennett, sometimes even humorist as you learn more about her and the troubles she experienced with other men. It sounded so familiar and was really something that many single people struggles with. At times she was almost neurotic, going into fits of despair, but her support system held her together a

This book was kind of boring. It didn't really seem like there was any conflict at all. The main character is smart, pretty, has a great job, family and friends who love her. She meets a guy who adores her and falls for her right away. Aaaaand that's pretty much it.

There is reference to her past and the men she's dated, but there isn't a great connection to the real reasons she's nervous about the current relationship.

You read and read, waiting for the other shoe to drop, to see her overcome s

This is a definitely a TOP NOTCH CHICK LIT novel! Glynis Astie introduces us to Sydney Bennett. I fell in love with this character. She is 27 years old, working hard, and very close to her sister, Kate. I loved knowing that this story is based on Glynis’ love story with her French husband. Knowing that it really worked out, was super cool!
At the beginning of the book, Sydney is giving up on love because her last boyfriend left with a broken heart. Then she meets, Louis Durand and everything chan

This book felt like I was reading someone's diary. It was a little all over the place at times, and the book was beyond corny. I felt myself rolling my eyes through most of my reading experience, although I did get a goofy grin on my face during the sappy sweet moments. However, the book felt like the author was trying too hard to put her voice into her writing. I wanted to end the book as quickly as possible, and by the end, I had given myse

This book was cute. It started with a giggle and kept it going for a while. It was fluff and I liked it. For a while. Eventually, it be came repetitive in that the main character was constantly going back and forth over the same problems over and over and over again. It somehow lost the cute humor and went into almost stupid territory. I did not hate it and since I really enjoyed the beginning, I had to give it more than one star. It really had a lot of potential but I feel like it turned into a ...more

Hysterical and filled with the romance most every girl dreams of, Sydney had me laughing and sighing as we follow her through her whirlwind romance with a hottie French man. If there's not a dilemma, there's hilarity ensuing from the simplest of things. I even found myself crushing on our frenchie (trust me you couldn't blame me for that). Funny, witty with the right dash of romance, I enjoyed reading this book.

This started out good, but then every chapter just seemed the same. I was waiting for the big "obstacle" that they had to over come but nothing major really happened. She continued to think the worst of everything claiming she was crazy but, didn't really find a reason to continue think the worst of everything. In the end I finished because I spent so much time trying to read it, just not for me
