Unexpected Love #2

Winning Me Over

Rate this book
It’s a typical boring night at work when I first meet the mysterious and sexy Colt Lancaster. Minutes after he leaves, I’m robbed at gunpoint by a masked man.
I suspect that the two events are related.
No matter how hard Colt tries to convince me that it was all just a coincidence, my gut tells me otherwise. However, the more I get to know him the more I want to believe him. Just when he’s about to win me over, a condemning secret from his past is exposed.
Then again, everyone deserves a second chance. Don’t they?

"Maybe together we'll get through this."

This was a quick young adult read. I really liked the two main characters and I'm a sucker for alternating povs. I also really liked the love connection.

"You don't believe in angels or promises. What do you believe in Colt?"

"Pain. Dissapointment."

I just wanted a longer story but what I got was good. If the author decided to do another book about bringing the characters through their senior year of high school and onto college I would definitely be on board.

The writing was strong, the characters were extremely likable and the story line was well done.

"You're not my friend or my girl friend. You're my only."

Overall it was a good clean read.

Can you believe that this is my first book by Amber Garza? Yeah, I can't either! I wasn't sure if this book was in anyway related to this author's other book, Tripping Me Up, and in actual fact it is! The main characters from that book were in this book! As I haven't read Tripping Me Up then I wasn't 100% sure until I read the synopsis of it! I will definitely be checking that book out as well! I loved this book! Absolutely loved it! I was intrigued by the synopsis as I haven't really read one like it before! Overall, this book was cute and a bit mysterious! It sort of makes you think, but at the back of your mind you sort of know the answer! The plot of this book was amazing! It was perfectly paced and kept me so interested! I loved that the plot wasn't full on romantic and didn't have any sex in it! This author is probably the second author who's books I've read that doesn't have any sex in them! It's different, but I love that books without sex in them tend to focus more on the actual plot and relationships! Unless the plot focuses a lot on sex lol! Anyway, this book's plot was awesome and I really enjoyed it! The characters were also amazing! Paige was the main female character in this book and I loved her! She was a quirky person with a good heart! I loved how she stood out and was a leader, not a follower! I wasn't sure if I was going to like Paige's attitude at the beginning of this book as her attitude sounded quite sarcastic, but I soon completely adored her! I loved how she handled situations she was placed in and her relationship with her love interest was so darn cute and seriously hot! And that was without the sex! Colt was the main male character in this book and he was such a sweetheart! I completely adored him! My heart went out to Colt in this book as he had such a tough childhood and he found it hard to make promises because he didn't think he could keep them! Colt came so far in this book though! I loved his progress because he deserved to be happy and to live his life to the fullest! I loved that this book was written from both Paige and Colt's point of views as the two of them were such amazing characters! Also, the two characters had so much going on that it was definitely essential for this book to be written from both of their point of views! The ending of this book was so perfect that I don't think there will be another book for Paige and Colt! Too be honest I'm so happy that the author wrote a spin off to Tripping Me Up! I will definitely be reading the other book to this one, Tripping Me Up and will also definitely be checking out this author's other books! I was very impressed by this book and I can't wait to check out her other work! The cover for this book is so pretty! It definitely suits the book and I love it! Also, it suits the cover for Tripping Me Up as well! Big thank you to Amber for an ARC of Winning Me Over and also to This Redhead LOVES Books for having me on the Blog Tour!

*I was provided with a free copy of this book for the blog tour. Thank you!*

It’s not a secret that I am a fan of Amber’s work. I’ve read all of her New Adult and Young Adult books and loved them all. I was very excited when I heard about ‘Winning me over’. Reading ‘Tripping me up’ I came to love Page and her craziness. So I was really happy when I found out that she will get her own book.

Well… ‘Winning me over’ didn’t disappoint me. In fact, it actually surprised me. Personally, I think that ‘Winning me over’ is Amber’s best book. I know I’ve probably said this in the reviews for ‘Tripping me up’ and ‘Star Struck’, but that was before ‘Winning me over’. And this showed me that Amber is one hell of an author. Her writing gets better and her plots are more beautiful with every book she writes.

‘Winning me over’ has an original plot. I don’t think it’s every day that you read a book about a girl who gets robbed and meets the love of her life in the same night. This is a plot that will have you hooked and will keep you guessing. I was dying to find out more about Colt and his past and to find out who was the robber. But Amber chose to keep her readers boiling, so I found out these things almost at the end of the book.

The characters are well portrated and you can easily connect with them. Paige is a leader. I loved her. She knows how to stand up for herself and how to be her own self. She is probably one of my favorite characters ever because we are so much alive. I realized it soon after I started reading the book that Paige is like my twin sister.

Colt is a mysterious character and a total sweetheart. Even though he can appear as a badass to some people, he is, in fact, one of the greatest guy I’ve “met”. Behind his tattoos and piercings, he’s got a soft, warm yet broken heart. I felt sorry for him sometimes because he didn’t deserve any of the things that happened to him. But I am happy with the way the things turned out for him. And I am done talking about Colt because if you’ll read the book I don’t want to take the pleasure of getting to know him from you.

Paige and Colt fit together like to pieces of a broken heart. Their relationship is one of those intense, beautoful and live-changing relationships. I really liked the fact that they got to know and trust each other before they got into a relationship. The lack of sappy things made this book even better.

This book focuses on the relationship and not on the sex. I liked that there is not sex in this book. It was refreshing to read a book like this.

“Winning me over’ showed me, again, how messed up our society is. Amber wrote with realism and she was able to show the real ‘face’ of today’s society. A society that judges tattoos and piercings and our mistakes. A society that doesn’t accept different. A society where we can’t express ourselves without being judged.

“Winning me over” is a book that readers of all ages will enjoy. It’s a book that will teach you not to judge, to be true to yourself and to live your life as you wish. A story that has a little bit of everything: mystery, action, romance and even some comedy. Paige is such a mouthy person that you can’t not laugh.

A book that won’t bore you, but will have you captivated between its pages until the end. Definitely recommended!

Winning Me Over is one of the best love stories that I have read this year. Not only because it has a happy ending, but because it's not the typical jock or country love story. It's the love story of two people who are considered outcasts in their town. They go through ups and downs, but in the end they come out together, stronger, and happier.

Paige is just the girl you see working behind the counter at your local coffee shop. She colors her hair a different color every time she turns around and she accessorizes to the max. Life for her is normal, well except for the few family things that she's had to go through in the past, but for now her future is looking up. She lives each day to the fullest because the future is never a guarantee. When she goes through something she would equate to being the second scariest time in her life, she realizes that her beliefs are right.

Colt is new to town and he isn't looking for any friends or even to really make it home. He's had a hard life and knows that the instant you get happy, it can get ripped from you. Attaching yourself to someone or something is only going to make it harder on yourself when you have to go. But, when he passes the coffee shop in town and sees Paige, he finds that he wants to get to know her, even though it's against everything that he knows to be true.

Together Colt and Paige help each other change and grow. Paige helps Colt realize that it's okay to lay roots down because sometimes things work out in your favor. Even if it takes something tragic for it to come to be. Colt helps Paige realize that even though her family has to go through the same ordeal that they'd already been through, she doesn't have to be strong for everyone, it's okay to break down and allow yourself to be vulnerable.

Amber Garza does a brilliant job at showing the dynamics in this book between the characters. I loved it from beginning to end.

There is so much more to Colt than I expected and I liked that a lot, "the plastic people who live in this crappy town. They all assume I'm a criminal just because of my tattoos and piercings. For some reason I thought you'd be different. I guess I was wrong." Paige I loved her in Hadley's story I loved her even more in this one she's an interesting character and I'm glad we got her story, "well, okay. The truth is she's not the only one who thinks it, even though I tell her she is. My parents think it, and so does my sister. And okay, it may have taken me multiple tries to get my license." Colt I truly loved him he's such a jokester, "it's okay. You can touch it." Then he winks. "In fact, you can touch a lot more than that if you want. I won't stop you." In a certain situation I love how Colt is the one hurt and he tries to make Paige feel better it shows he truly does care for her, "well for starters, you can hold me. You can kiss me." I wink. "That will definitely help." I loved this story every book I read by Amber I love her writing grows more and more with the more books she writes.

This is a great book! It is one of those ones that makes you fall in love with the characters so much that you are hoping that everything works out for them. Amber Garza gives great depth to her characters and the storyline is wonderful! Colt is hiding something in his past and desperately wants Paige to like him as he very much likes her but what if she finds out? Will Paige be able to trust him even if she finds out what he is hiding? Can they learn to trust each other? It is just a wonderful story!! I loved Tripping me Up with Hadley and Tripp' s story and definitely wanted to read Paige and Colts story. I really loved their story better. There was enough angst to pull at your heart at times. It was a quick clean teen romance relating to a lot of teen issues. Colt would definitely be my description of a perfect book boyfriend.

This is my third book I have read and have enjoyed all of them so far. Cannot wait for more from this author.

I loved Paige from Tripping Me Up a lot, so when I found out that Winning Me Over was about Paige I was excited to read it. She is one of those girls I wished I were friends with back in high school: outgoing, friendly, etc. Totally opposite from Hadley. Despite all that she doubts Colt so many times throughout the book because she met him before she was robbed and who wouldn't suspect Colt because of his tattoos and piercings. But, as she learn to get to know Colt behind the piercings she finds that he's the very opposite. He does things he's not proud of (like stealing food for his brother because his parents abandoned them), but he does what he does in order to survive. When he is accused of stealing money from the coffee shop that he and Paige works at, the last thing he wants is for Paige to look at him the same way other people do. Just like in Tripping me Up this book deals with heavy and dark issues. I had a few problems with the book that kind of irritated me, but it was a nice fast pace read overall.

This is a wonderful story about love, friendship, and finding that things (or people) aren't always what they appear to be at first glance. It's about second chances. Paige and Colt are written beautifully. Can't say enough good about this whole series!!

Freaking fantastic!!!!!!

Colt and Paige, oh my heavens where does one even begin with them. They are that couple that fate brought together. These two overcome so much and in the end they not only grow but get to be happy.

Very sweet book, with some suspense. I loved Paige in Tripping Me Up & I am glad she got her own book. I actually like Paige & Colt better than Hadley & Tripp.

Not much to say about this, but it really was great read, although in my opinion cut short. It didn't make my heart beat a mile a minute but it was still good.
