One day Sam and Pop; his grandfather; make a visit to the zoo and fall asleep on a bench after a full day of adventures which leads to some humorous consequences. The animals come to see the strangers in their midst and they all want to have the curious thing of Pop’s that rings and snaps; Pop’s cell phone.

This I Like to Read title will appeal to beginning readers with its easy vocabulary and simple sentence structure. Longer words that a new reader may not be familiar with like “popcorn” and “p

This book is a cute counterpoint to the much older "Last Night at the Zoo." Instead of the animals escaping from the zoo, a little boy and his grandfather both fall asleep on a bench in the zoo, and get locked in for the night. While they sleep, the animals all come out from their cages for a bit of fun.
The whole thing could have been a dream, if the animals hadn't grabbed the grandfather's cell phone. Monkeys take the most interesting photos.
The only real weakness of this book was the human cha

I can’t wait to share this book with my beginning readers. It is often difficult to find stories for beginning readers that actually have a fun story line. Caple does an amazing job of incorporating easy to read dialogue, sound words and different types of punctuation (ellipses) for readers to practice in a “real” book. The students will love the fun twist at the end when they infer what the zoo animals did with Pop’s phone while it was “lost”. A perfect book to add to any primary classroom libr ...more

A boy and his grandfather spend a day at the zoo, taking pictures with Pop's cell phone. They are napping on a bench when the zoo closes. The animals come out of their pens, steal the phone, and take silly pictures which the visitors discover as they wake up and leave the zoo. This is a very very simple book, carried largely by Caple's bright, giggle-worthy illustrations. There's plenty of onomatopoeia, making this a good read-aloud choice. Beginning readers will enjoy this book.

What a cute book! The nonstop action, which includes a smartphone going on adventure, is very up to date. An excellent choice for young readers as well as for story-time at preschools and libraries. Bright humorous illustrations add to the fun. Silly snapshots taken with the smartphone while it was lost, make for a nice surprise inside the back cover.

This simple, colorful picture book was short, but hilarious. The text was very simplified,
so much so I feel this could almost be a perfect early reader (if children had a previous of the animal names).

about Sam and his grandpa going to the zoo and falling asleep. While asleep they miss all the mayhem that takes place when the animals steal pops phone. I liked it up until the animals start kicking garbage cans and each other.

I love how the animals all take photos of themselves with the camera on the phone. Right on!
