This Arch Books does not well stand the test of time. The art is cartoonish. The cranky shepherd has a hooked nose, but the angles are blonde and blue eyed. And the baby Jesus is pink and blue-eyed.

While Walter Wangerin Jr. is a talented poet, this is not his best.
