While I appreciate any book that gives people a chance to quickly learn history and begin to develop their own opinions (and I especially appreciate that part of the proceeds o the book go towards helping a museum), the voice of this book is very biased towards Americans, making it unsuitable for people of other countries. One of the issues with this American voice is the insistence that only white men matter.

Over and over the book uses the dehumanising "enemy" instead of "the Japanese" or "the

“The headline in the ‘New York Times’ on September 1, 1939, captured the surprise in a crisp, bold headline: GERMAN ARMY ATTACKS POLAND; CITIES BOMBED, PORTS BLOCKADED. That day, few understood that the invasion would spark the bloodiest war in human history - by the time the combat ended in 1945, almost 60 million people, civilian and military, lay dead.”

Time Life Books has assembled a riveting WWII photo journal coupled with tightly written chronological chapters, from Prelude To War to The Af

World war two in 500 photographs
Publisher: Jim Childs

World war 2 was fought during 1939 to 1945, it engulfed the world into a shattering struggle over all different countries. This war has been the costliest war in terms of life with millions perishing in combat and the rest were in concentration camps or under rubble hoping to just die a quick death. In this book you will find the key events, battles, and important turning points year by year while reading this book. You will learn the leader

Yes, this is a quick, breezy, and far from complete summation of World War II, but it's meant to be a synopsis, not an exhaustive study of the war.

Iconic photos that one associates with WWII (flag raising at Iwo Jima, or sailor kissing nurse at Times Square) are a part of the photographic history of the war that is included in this book, but so too are many other photos, some utterly heartbreaking or chilling.

I think what I liked best about this book is the inclusion of battles on the Eastern Eu

This 2014 Time Life Books release is a nicely-done visual guide to the Second World War. Arranged chronologically, it offers up page after page of black and white or color photographs depicting battlefield and home front events as well as personalities such as FDR, Churchill, Hitler, Himmler, Stalin, Eisenhower, Patton, etc. The images are complimented by an easy-to-follow text that explains the many facets of the most significant event of the 20th Century. The book also includes timelines so re ...more

I thought this was a pretty neat look at World War II. I picked up this books expecting to see pictures with a sentence or two explaining the picture. I found every two pages a nice layout regarding a certain event in the war. There were a few paragraphs up to a half a page of text along with a few pictures about the event. It was a really nice layout with some really interesting pictures. If you are looking for an in depth look at the war, this is not it. If you are looking for some interesting ...more

A solid overview of World War II via pictures. There are obvious elements left out (post-war and navel battles in the Pacific spring to mind) but overall, a nice introduction to the subject. And an "excellent" visual coverage of World War II.

this is your typical world war 2 book; great if you are a history buff like me. I found photo's i've not run into before; which is always cool. Narrative flows well and follows appropriate, accepted time-lines. enjoyable; not disappointed with buying it :)
