Fast paced page turner with believable characters and great plot. This intense story line is set in North Dakota. Fans of the Walking Dead and World War Z need to read this one.
This book is amazing. So is the second book in the trilogy. I am a Walking Dead junkie, but these books take bizarre and crazy twists that I never saw coming. To say I’m hooked is an understatement. I never read so much so fast. Cannot wait to read book 3.
OK, I admit it, I love a good thriller. If a book is good enough to keep me up at night, then it becomes a member of the (small) bookshelf set aside for that honor. Fade to Grey, although currently (as of this review) only available as an Ebook, is going to be on that shelf. Is it the most intense thriller I've ever read, no. Is it deep in history, mystery or eloquent verbiage, no. But there is something about it that makes you want to turn the next page, over and over again. The first time author has created a realistic story with characters that make sense. As I was reading, I felt myself saying "yeah, that's what I think I would do" in their situation. Then there is the story itself. It starts off in "voice recorder diary" format, with the main character Eric injured and alone, and through previous diary entries, we learn some of what led up to his current predicament. By the time I was on chapter 15 or so, I knew I was going to stay up and read all night. Without giving away any spoilers, I can say that each chapter build up and up, and then the end is both intense and well worth it.
The enemies are a refreshing take on the typical undead, let's just say they are "not your mama's normal zombie." But to be honest, even if you don't like "zombie" material, you're probably still going to like this book. Think virus or plague scenario.
My only issue, not really a complaint though, is that I wish we had more hints or clues as to the exact nature of what is really going on with the (virus?) although I can see where that can lead into the second book in the series. (there is a short book two preview at the end of book one)
Other- Fade to Grey is a good, long read, coming in at a little over 700 pages on my Kindle. There was, I think, an issue with the first version not working correctly on a few devices, but that has been corrected according to the author's website, and confirmed by other members of my book club who have different Ebook platforms, so read away and enjoy Fade to Grey.
I don't know if we're allowed to post a link to the author's website or not, but if so, here it is for more info. http://fadetogrey.weebly.com/
This is an extremely well written book. The characters come alive and the story line is exciting. I love the back stories on some of the characters and the camaraderie they all share is amazing. Of course you have your zombies, bad men & even the worst of the military. I enjoyed this book tremendously. Kudos to the author...you really know how to write! Can't wait to begin the next one...
