Great draughtsmen from Pisanello to Picasso

Rate this book
This revised edition of an established work on the highest achievements in European draughtsmanship from the fifteenth century to the twentieth concentrates on ten of the greatest masters -Pisanello, Leonardo, Raphael, Michelangelo, Durer, Rembrandt, Watteau, Goya, Degas, Picasso- who represent best the successive periods or styles from the early Renaissance to the present. Using 277 illustrations, including both old favorites and less frequently reproduced examples, the author devotes his lucid text to an artistic appreciation and analysis of the drawings. He also shows each artist's drawings as part of a life-work, and each artist himself in relation to the others so that the reader perceives the mainstream of European draughtsmanship over the centuries. 180 pages of text plus 320 pages of illustrations.
