Goodness me, this was an unhinged rant by someone who really, really, really needs to seek professional help…and/or is a professional con artist who desperately wants your money.
It opens with talking points lifted directly from various parts of other 20th century conspiracy theories which take their basis from the Protocols of the Elders of Zion, and if you don’t know what I mean, let’s just say that Hal here seems to believe that all things bad that have happened in the world during the 20th century are due to a cabal of rich bankers and industrialists, who have been using communists and socialists to push their agenda of world control…a.k.a. “The Jews”…same shit, different peddler.
He also says that UFOs are real, of course, and are piloted by Demons and sent by Satan to attempt to undermine Christianity by supporting New Age Religion. And, of course, all New Age religions are just redressed Eastern Philosophies which are, of course, all run by Demons and Satan. It’s all part of the plan to turn people away from Christianity.
Then, Hal here goes on a series of unhinged rants about why you, as a Devout, White, American, Evangelical, Christian need to be afraid of, and thus hate, everyone else in the world. First, he tells you why you need to hate Muslims, by which he means Arabs (to which he lumps in Iranians, Afghanis, and other Central Asian and North African ethnic groups, as they are all “Arabs”), because Arabs are pushing Islam which wants to destroy the Nation of Israel. You also need to be afraid of and hate the Chinese, Indians, and Japanese, because they are eventually going to unite and, using their Arab allies, destroy the Nation of Israel. You also need to be afraid of and hate Russians because they are eventually going to unite with the Arabs and destroy the Nation of Israel. You also need to be afraid of hate the Europeans because, through the European Union, they are going to unite, bring forth the Anti-Christ – who is most likely going to be German – supplant the United States as the primary world power, and then, using their Arab allies, destroy the Nation of Israel. Lastly, you need to be afraid of, and thus hate, any and all Americans who are not Devout, White, Evangelical Christians, because they are all secretly tools of the Arabian-Chinese-Russian-European alliance, and want to distract you into silly things like environmentalism, social welfare, health care, the “homosexual agenda,” abortion, tolerance, inclusion, acceptance, and understanding that the Founding Fathers were not White, Evangelical Christians, so that you won’t try to stop the destruction of the Nation of Israel.
Other parts that made me laugh: the multiple times where he states that Russia possesses 34 Typhoon-class Submarines, like those found in “The Hunt for Red October” (yes, he mentions the movie). I mean, not to be too much of a stickler, but the Soviet Union only ever planned to build 7 of them, and only finished construction of 6 before they collapsed. So, yah…six…thirty-four…basically the same number. He also says that this massive fleet of Typhoons are always hiding under the Arctic Ice ready to rain fire and death upon the USA, which he says is just like the plot to “The Hunt for Red October”…um, Hal…my guy…did you actually see the movie?
Oh, of course, as per usual, he also rails against the United Nations as a tool of Satan and Evil and that the UN has plans to overthrow the government of the USA and rule over it, undoing all of the freedoms and ideals of the Constitution and replace it with their evil, dark totalitarian rule. Now, I’m not saying that the UN is perfect, but the UN Charter actually is quite a bit more enlightened, freedom-loving, and humanitarian than the US Constitution. Oh, but I forgot, Hal sees humanitarianism as Evil, because, um…well, he rails against how the US military has been forced by the agents of Satan to engage in humanitarian missions instead of doing the apparently God-endorsed goals of killing enemies. He even goes on to show how the increased chaos of the early 1990s throughout Eastern Europe and Central Asia are clear signs of Satan at work. I mean, okay Hal, or it could be – and track with me here – that one of the most stabilizing forces in both of those areas, *cough* the Soviet Union *cough* collapsed…which sort of caused a whole lot of chaos and confusion in those areas and allowed tensions which had been previously suppressed by the Soviets to boil to the surface.
In the last chapter he shows how the fact that everyone in the world hates Americans, by which he, of course means Devout, White, Evangelical, Christians, because of the influence of Demons and Satan. I don’t know, Hal, it might also be because you just spent the preceding 300 pages railing against how literally everyone else in the freaking world is an evil, baby-eating monster who wants nothing more than to kill anyone who doesn’t personally interpret the Bible in the manner that you think is “correct”…through AIDS…oh yah, I forgot to mention that he predicts AIDS is going to kill 25% of the world’s population, depopulating nearly all of Africa – oh, and he believes that it’s because of Liberals and the “homosexual agenda” that AIDS was ignored and not talked about in the 1980s…and not, you know, a policy decision made by the decidedly not-Liberal Reagan Administration because they saw AIDS as a way to eradicate the “gays.”
Lastly, Hal here is really sad that the USA is never mentioned in the Bible, because he’s a flag-waving Nationalist, and he draws the conclusion that it must be because the Arabian-Russian-Chinese-European Alliance is successful in destroying, or at least handicapping, the USA before the Second Coming. Or Hal, and hear me out, it could be because this tribe of sheep herders who lived in a small slice of the Middle East thousands of years ago, had no idea that the continents of North and South American even existed. I mean, I don’t hear you lament about the lack of reference to Australia…Although, based on his other crazed interpretations, I find it strange that he just didn’t make it up and say that the USA was named something else in the Bible, as he draws the same old trope that Magog is obviously Russia. I’m not sure why, if the Bible is so accurate, it’s just not called Russia.
At any rate, Hal here was pretty positive that, whilst the Apocalypse might not happen in the year 2000, it’s most likely going to happen sometime before and or shortly after the year 2000, thus making his title nothing more than a sensationalist grab to appeal to millennialists. And here I am, in 2023, an Atheist, Humanitarian, Leftist, Queer, chuckling at his absurdities. Can you imagine living this feverish life full of hate and anger, just seething about how everyone is out to get you? Hal seriously needed help.

I can not understand the blindness this man has.
He mentions several times that fulfillment has taken place in 70AD:
- Daniel 9:36 (page 28 and 148)
- Luke 19:44-54 (page 35)
- Luke 21:33-24 (page 42)
If he would only stick to that fact and investigate the witness of Josephus and Tacitus, he could see all had been fulfilled in "this generation" just like Jesus said in Mat 24:34, the generation between 30 and 70 AD.
Too bad, Lindsey predicts a lot, keeping a way out if it does not happen. Well, it wont.
There will be no Rapture at all. It is a fantasy born in 1830, and is not found in Chruch history.
And the great tribulation was the time of the Jewish war before Jerusalem fell.

My friend Deborah lent me this and I couldn't put it down. Fascinating reading and still very relevant. However, I found some of the really right wing stuff hard to swallow.

LINDSEY ADMITS "I AM NOT A PROPHET" AND EXTENDS A "GENERATION" UNTIL PERHAPS 2067
Harold Lee "Hal" Lindsey (born 1929) is a best-selling author, who is currently host of "The Hal Lindsey Report" TV program. (He formerly hosted International Intelligence Briefing on TBN, but the show was removed as being too "pro-Israel"/"anti-Arab"; he provides the financing for the Hal Lindsey Report himself.)
He wrote in the Introduction to this 1994 book, "for 25 years, I resisted the mammoth undertaking of writing a book that would go beyond where 'The Late Great Planet Earth' left off, mostly because prophetically meaningful events were occurring so quickly. I wasn't sure how a book could do justice to the subject. Instead of focusing on writing prophecy books that might be out of date by the time they reached the stores, I devoted my attention to radio and television shows, video and audio tapes and a monthly news and prophecy journal. Only now, as mankind approaches the third millennium, do I feel like the Holy Spirit has provided me with the proper perspective---the Big Picture, so to speak---on the mind-blowing experiences of the modern world...
"Is there anything magical about the year 2000? I don't think so... I do know this: The final seven-year countdown leading to the return of Jesus could occur even before the year 2000... Jesus promised us that the generation that witnessed the restoration of the Jewish people to their homeland would not pass until 'all these things'---including His return to Earth---would be done. The Jewish people declared the rebirth of their nation in 1948. They recaptured Jerusalem in 1967. A biblical generation is somewhere between 40 to 100 years... you do the arithmetic. No matter how you cut it, there's not much time left." (Pg. 2-3)
He admits, "I will admit that one prediction I made has not yet occurred. I suggested 25 years ago that we could expect to see some limited use of nuclear weapons in the world... I'm not copping out, though. I still say something like this scenario---whether it's nuclear arms or chemical weaponry or biological warheads---is likely very soon... I also said that 'IF' a generation was 40 years and 'IF' the generation of the 'fig tree' (Mt 24:32-34) started with the foundation of the State of Israel, then Jesus 'MIGHT come back by 1988.' But I put a lot of ifs and maybes in because I knew that no one could be absolutely sure." (Pg. 6)
He explains, "Many biblical scholars have pointed to the fact that a generation in the Bible is generally regarded as 40 years. Some people point out that 40 years has already passed since the rebirth of Israel and Jesus has not returned. Well, folks, we simply don't know for certain how long a biblical generation is. In addition, we're not certain when the final countdown began. Did it begin in 1948 when Israel was reborn? Or could it have begun in 1967 when Jerusalem ... was recaptured and reunified under Jewish control? We simply don't know and that is the way God wants it. The Bible repeatedly warns against date-setting ... God wants there to be some mystery involved in this process." (Pg. 144)
He says, "But, Hal, you might ask, weren't you surprised by the crumbling of the Soviet Union? Isn't that an event that runs counter to Bible prophecy? Hasn't the Soviet Union's power been somewhat diminished? Let me answer that this way. I am not a prophet. I have never claimed to be. In fact, over and over again I have tried to explain that I am simply a student of the Bible. What I know about the future is limited to what I can gleam from the pages of [the Bible]... So, of course, I could never have imagined the precise scenario that led to the end of the Soviet Union." (Pg. 191) But he still argues that "he [the Antichrist] is alive today." (Pg. 232) And "it sounds like the New Age movement is preparing to justify the persecution of Christian believers." (Pg. 292)

I read this book when it first came out in 1994. I read it again this year, but it wasn't as good as it originally was. I think my views have changed some since then. It is very interesting to compare his biblical view and light of 25 years of History. Definitely worth a read!

Maybe not quite as good as the earlier books as a lot has been repeated, but still filled with questions and wonders as we watch prophecy fulfilled before our eyes every day.

Although not as powerful as his earlier books, Lindesy has filled in the gaps since his first book, TLGPE. One does need to have either read the first book and be a student of eschatology to understand certain aspects of this book. I found it slightly repetitious but slightly informative.
