Journey of the Magi is a lighthearted, sweet romance that will warm you down to your toes. I giggled at the funny moments Barbara Edwards created, and enjoyed Dan and Noel, as well as the children, Holly and Nicholas. While I was reading the first chapter I actually felt cold . . . in Florida heat. I loved the fact that Noel didn’t think Dan was handsome at first, which was refreshing but like Noel I fell for Dan’s compassionate ways. I wish there were more men like him! I was caught off guard b ...more

I really enjoyed this sweet romance by Barbara Edwards. The children are adorable and the hero is wonderful. The heroine is brave and determined and she pays the hero back for his kindness by taking care of him, though he doesn't know it until it is (almost) too late. Journey of the Magi is a quick and heartwarming read. ...more

Sweet little romance

Sweet romance and second chance at love. Characters were pleasant and plenty feel good factors around Christmas time. Recommend reading.

Journey of the Magi by Barbara Edwards tells a slightly different Christmas tale than you might be thinking, just on a glance at the title. In this story, widowed Noel Martin shows up in a Minnesota diner seeking shelter from a winter storm. The diner’s owner, Dan Longstreet, offers she and her children a meal and a place to sleep that night. Noel piques Dan’s interest and when she asks for a job, he gives her one.

Noel has promised to get her children home to Connecticut for Christmas, and so d

I enjoyed reading this touching story of two lonely people meeting at an inconvenient time. It is a simple story that is easy to read; the perfect afternoon escape for the upcoming holiday season. Bad luck and tough times hang over Noel like a menacing black cloud, but she has her mind firmly on her goal and is determined not to break her promise. I admired her gumption and steely resolve even as I berated her in my mind for missing the forest for all the trees. Fate generally has a way of getti ...more

Noel Martin, a down-on-her-luck widow, runs out of oomph in a Minnesota snowstorm. Café owner Dan Longstreet has a history of collecting strays and his big heart prompts him to help Noel. He offers her a job and a place for her and her two kids to stay.

Noel accepts the help, making sure Dan knows this is temporary because she’s promised her kids that they will have Christmas in Connecticut.

A fire at the café puts a difficult spin on their professional and blossoming personal relationship, and th

With a deft touch of her brush, word artist Barbara Edwards paints an endearing story that showcases the true meanings of Christmas--love, sacrifice and the wide-eyed hopes of children. This is a sweet romance of two lonely people who have an instant attraction to each other while their hearts are heavy with fears and long-denied dreams. Ms. Edwards gives us several twists and turns in the plot, but it is her attention to detail, her ingenious stroke of the brush that breathes life and love into ...more

A sweet romance, but definitely could and should have been fleshed out a lot more. It's like this story wants to be a Harlequin Romance when it grows up. Great story idea, but if half stars were allowed I'd give it 2.5 stars for the constant feeling of being rushed through the story. The author sets out to pack as much as she can in 77 pages instead of detailing anything. As my first exposure to this author I feel safe in saying it's probably my last. ...more

This holiday short was perfect for an hour's relaxation away from holiday preparations. I love a heroine with grit and Noel has that quality in spades. Her determination to honor her promise to her kids and herself is admirable. The hero is a lovable bear of a man and they make a perfect couple, even if they might communicate a bit better.
Enjoyable read with the right amount of sexual tension.

I’m Barbara Edwards and a native New Englander. I’m a graduate of the University of Hartford with a Master’s degree in Public Administration. I write poetry for myself and novels when I need to tell a longer tale. I’m fascinated by the past so naturally turned to writing historical romance.
