A treasury of facts, trivia, memorabilia, and behind-the-scenes glimpses, complete with a full pictorial montage of the film's 684 scenes. Hundreds of photographs and illustrations of the most popular movie ever made.
We currently have this book at our house because my daughter is doing a class project on Margaret Mitchell's Gone With the Wind, and my quick perusal of the pictures turned into cover-to-cover reading. Any aficionado of the classic film would enjoy this book, though I wished the photos were in color (I actually read the 1983 edition, perhaps the one published in 1996 was upgraded). I loved learning about the other actors and actresses considered for the main roles, and how the stars felt about working on GWTW. My only complaint is that the author often referred to people and events that it was assumed the reader was familiar with, but that meant nothing to me. Perhaps those who were around for the 1939 premiere would have known what they were talking about, but today's generation (or even that of 1983) needs more context.
For better or for worse, Gone with the Wind is an iconic movie and for all that is wrong about it (I recommend this fantastic book: The Wrath to Come: Gone with the Wind and the Lies America Tells , I.... kinda love it. This book offers some really beautiful photogaphs from the movie set and offers trivia about the casting, the painful filming process and also about how the movie pretty much ruined the lives of everybody involved with the exception of Olivia Havilland. I would wish for a more comprehensive
Some interesting facts not only about who was chosen to be in the movie but also why they were chosen. I enjoyed the Book along with the phorographs. I've going to give this book to a friend of mine to read who is also a GWTW fan.I love that we can share books. Actual books.
