Iris may have been dumped by Jane a year ago, but she still isn’t over her. So she boards a plane to Amsterdam, hoping the physical distance will help. But once there, she finds herself in the middle of nowhere, with no wallet, no map, and no idea how she got there. Some ancient-looking ruins beckon, but once she’s inside, the floor collapses, and she begins to fall …straight into another world.
She literally lands on Anandra, a magical woman in a magical place far away from Earth and anything and everything familiar. Anandra is, admittedly, smoking hot, and Iris quickly falls into bed with her. Anandra offers to help Iris get home, and they embark on a journey rife with danger, excitement, and lots of hot sex.
As she travels the land with her new lover—and as they close in on a new, mysterious threat to this world—Iris begins to wonder if Anandra might be just what she needs to finally move on.
Looking for F/f kinky sex with a smoky hot rating? Out of this world measures up when it comes to great sex. Iris is a character in a bad country song. Her girlfriend left her for another man. She's lost her luggage. She has no wallet. She can't find her hotel for her "finding me" vacation. When she is lost in the middle of nowhere, she finally cries, gives up and meditates. Yes, mediates - breathe in, breathe out, breathe in … This is where the story turns weird.
Iris falls through some rabbit hole and ends up in another world with a superhot woman. This woman is a lesbian who can lick Iris's pussy so well that Iris has out of body experiences. Not sure what is going on, Iris and this sex on the stick, Anandra, decide to go on a quest. This quest is to find a way to send Iris home while delivering a message to the Queen.
Let's cover the good stuff first. The sex is amazing. These two go at it like bunnies. With a little help of magic, sex toys appear out of the sky and land next to the two nymphos. Every hole is probed, licked, stroked and sucked. There isn't a part of Iris's body left unexplored by the insatiable Anandra. The sex scenes are erotic and well written. For those who want hawt lesbian sex, this is the book for you.
The characters in this book are also mediocre. Iris is annoying from the start. She's a whiny little thing who can't do anything right. She's the type of person people avoid because she can't plan and anything that can go wrong, she causes it. Her thinking ability seems to be klutzy. Unfortunately even at the end, Iris is kind of a dud. Anandra on the other hand is sexy, independent, brave and self-sufficient. Too bad her role is more of sidekick sex-toy than heroine.
From a world building and plot perspective, this book needs work. There are threads which are left hanging as well as an over abuse of ex deus machina. Anandra's parents were killed or missing from a war which is mentioned several time yet goes nowhere. Characters come out of nowhere to fix the latest problems. The setup to introduce these characters are a bit sketchy. For example, Iris's grandfather just happens to be the innkeeper in an inn they patron is a bit too pat. The way magic Iris can suddenly use her magic based on some flowers and a song is a bit of a stretch too. After a while, a reader just expects rabbits to be pulled out of Iris's ass to save the day. There is little rhyme or reason how these conflicts are so easily resolved. The ending is anticlimactic. This book is recommended for the flaming hot lesbian sex scenes.
‘Out of this World’ turns out to be somewhat of an understatement since this story is way, way out of this world in a delightfully entertaining fashion. Plus having the *Earth* woman who is astoundingly catapulted to this non-Earth world tumbling into her soon to be lover's bedroom upon arrival certainly set the tone for the super sexy elements. Additionally it provided a marvelous conduit via the original bedroom's occupant into the magnificently magical qualities of this new world. This book is such a romp yet establishes and develops some really profound themes within its sometimes fairy tale like atmosphere. I think it is a classy, A-1 winner!
Iris is so innocently amusing especially with her preoccupation about sex. Trying to follow her therapist's suggestion she ends up in the most astounding pickle of a predicament. Where is she? How will she ever get back to anything familiar? Will she ever have sex again? There goes that *sex* stuff once more as tears came to my laughter-enthralled self from so much more than just Iris's desire to get laid no matter where she is! Who Iris really is, where Iris has really been transported to, and how did she get hooked up with an astounding woman who seems to like sex even more than Iris does? What a brilliant start to a phantasmagorical story that comes replete with a tremendous cast of characters, and a prodigious out-of-this-universe planet with all manner of critical events about to unfold that will save or lose this environment's way of life. Incredible!
Anandra completely won me over with how she dealt with Iris's astounding arrival. And could I possibly imagine what she wants to do with Iris before anything else evolves? I was rolling on the floor laughing my innards out. Luckily Anandra, this world, and Iris step up to the plate and evolve alongside this nearly unreal adventure. This book could have simply gone on to be a ten-book anthology for all the extraordinary components that were given life, breath, and dimension. I had my socks knocked off multiple times as things uncoiled. Oh and by the way, the sex is fantastic, too. Stupendous!
In perhaps the understatement of the year, I really recommend this book. Iris unfolds, blossoms, and evolves beautifully. Anandra was a constant source of amazement, skill, and phenomenal adaptation. These two women along with all the spectacular exploits they survive are not to be missed. Luminous!

After 43% I have come to the conclusion I'm not really all that interested in finishing this book. So I'm marking it as DNF.
The world building was kind of interesting, and the sex was exceptionally hot at first. I'm not that interested in the characters. Anandra feels very flat and 2 dimensional, and Iris is bland and uninteresting, at least to me. While I commend her for trying to get on with her life after a bad breakup....throwing herself into something new...she literally falls into this new world. And just sort of...accepts it and follows this strange woman without much question after one night of hot passion. Iris's strength appears to be in her sexual awakening with Anandra. While Iris is no stranger to sex, this new woman brings out a side of her she always wanted to explore but never had the guts. While that bit was pretty good, Iris doesn't really appeal to me much as a character. She's too trusting and accepting of strange and weird things.
Everything feels kind of...convenient in the form of magic in the book. Particularly in the want something and oh look! it appears way. It was kind of amusing at first, particularly when used during sex play, but got old very fast.
The writing is pretty good, nice and descriptive. The world building was okay. But I'm finding myself starting to skim and really not that interested in how it ends. I would definitely read something else by this author, this particular book is just not for me.
Thank you to Netgalley and Bold Stroke Books for approving my request to read the title.
For once, I’ve found a lesbian erotica novel that has good proofreading, a solid plot, and steamy scenes that don’t make me cringe. And it’s not every day that I find one of those.
Let’s get into a bit more detail here. First, the synopsis. Protagonist Iris finds herself trying to make a new beginning and get over her ex by traveling to Amsterdam. In a taxi from the airport, the world around her changes – she falls asleep in said taxi only to find herself waking in a beautiful woman’s bed. Predictable scenes ensue, but again they don’t make me cringe! It’s so very exciting. Now her new lover Anandra reveals herself to be from a different world, a world full of magic. And Iris is stuck in this world. Anandra and Iris set out to find a way back to Iris’ world, and lots of steamy sex ensues.
While I find the plot secondary to the sex scenes, which is my main complaint with this book, it does fulfill its niche. However this does mean that the characters come across as rather flat and, dare I say, unfulfilling? Not that everyone is going to find this one a drawback, but I feel it fair to lay out my own observations here.
Now, on to the writing itself. It’s pretty good! It’s solidly constructed, titillating without being over-the-top, and the grammar is excellent. For a grammar perfectionist like myself, finding a well-edited and proofread book from a small publisher is a major bonus, and a gift not to be taken for granted.
As a further bonus, the lesbian relationships are seen as legitimate things, which again is a surprisingly common problem – a book features lesbian/bi/queer protagonists, only for their relationships to come off as slightly (or not so slightly) inferior to their straight counterparts. And sex is seen as a positive, not something shameful or embarrassing, which is yet another good point for this novel.
Overall, I’d give this a score of 4 out of 5 if you’re looking for some steamy lesbian erotica, and a 2.5 out of 5 if you’re looking purely for a solid fantasy book that just happens to feature lesbian protagonists. I am giving it three stars here because the plotline is weaker than it could be and it does rest purely on the erotica element, which overall weakens the book.
The author, Maggie Morton, published her book with Bold Strokes publishing. Out of This World was published this year and if you enjoy it, Morton has published quite a few other books in the same general vein, all erotica, and most a bit more spicy than this one.
“Out of this world” was published in 2014 (August) and was written by Maggie Morton. This is Ms. Morton’s fourth novel.
I obtained this novel for free through https://www.netgalley.com for review. This is an erotic fantasy novel. This story is told first person by principal character Iris. I would definitely categorize this book as ‘R’ due to Mature Language and Mature Situations.
Iris is devastated when her partner Jane suddenly leaves her. To get back on track she travels to Amsterdam on a solo vacation. She falls asleep in a cab from the airport, then wakes up in the middle of a field. She goes to explore a nearby building and falls through the floor of the building. Iris lands in the bed (literally) of beautiful Ananda.
Iris soon discovers she is no longer on Earth, but in a world with magic. Iris sets out with Ananda to find a way back home. Iris is attracted to Ananda and the two girls often share a steamy intimacy. Along the journey she develops deep feelings for Ananda. Iris is also caught up in a plot by the evil Queen Tressa to take over and discovers unexpected details of her family history.
If I exclude the many steamy sex scenes and just look at the fantasy story, it is pretty simple. I also felt like there was little depth to the two principal characters. I spent five hours reading this novel and have to say that I only feel that it is worth a 3 out of 5.
I got to read Out of This World by Maggie Morton thanks to the Goodreads First Reads Giveaway.
This book was not my style and I admit that I entered to try something new and unlike what I usually read. The approach to storytelling was really one-dimensional and childish, which was awkwardly paired with intense BDSM sex scenes. I don't usually have problems reading books with sex in them. I never got much character development to care enough about the people in the story, especially not enough to be interested by their sex life. Some of the details that were included were silly which made it hard to take the couple or the story seriously. One of the things that I think people want from fantasy/adventure stories is to get lost in the world and there were not enough details or depth given for an audience to do that. The villains didn't come off as menacing and I never believed that the girls were ever in any danger. The story became really repetitive as Iris and Anandra went on their journey (lots of food, sex, talking animals, and fortunate coincidences like animals wanting to let the girls go).
The story outside of the couple wasn't half-bad but the author never widened the scope much to make anything else a focal point. You were only given the minimum of context and only when it was vital to move along in the story.
It is an erotic tale of a lady's journey to getting over her ex-girlfriend and finding out who she really is. After a bad breakup Iris jumps on a plane to take a trip to let loose and try to move on. Instead she is sent to a different world. A world with a beautiful woman who helps her find out who she is.. in so many ways.
On to the juicy part. There was some oh so steamy scenes (with a little kink thrown in) and lots of them. The plot itself was second to the steamy scenes but it wasn't lacking! A few twists and turns will keep you turning pages.
An enjoyable read with a lot of hot sex scenes in every single chapter and sometimes even more than once. So yes it is that type of fantasy that it will make you feel sizzling under your skin and in other parts of the body. At first I thought that the book was just written for the tossing around in bed and other surfaces but then some kind of plot emerged. I felt Iris was better described as a character than Anandra but then maybe that was actually what the author wanted to show through the book. I found the plot could have been developed a bit more, given more twists and turns, toss it up with a pinch of unexpectedness.
On the whole it was a pleasant lesbian sexy summer read.
Dared my self to read combination of two genres and found that it wasn't my cup of tea. The idea of how the other world looked like was too childish for me (And I can't discribed the whole points that made me uncomfy, one of 'em was too many kinky sex scenes). I dared my self and I lost.
