**4.5 Absolutely Delightful Stars**
I LOVED this novella! It is a captivating and heart-warming story and made a lovely interlude between the darkness and intensity of the other books in this series. It brings together two secondary characters from the previous books – Lord Byron Cartwright, the Earl of Wyndham (friend to Lord Ian Blake, the hero of the first book, The Dark Lady) and Clare, Duchess of Duncliffe (stepmother to Mary, the heroine of the second book, Lady in Red).

"A Lady Undone" by Maire Claremont is the 2.5 novella in the "Mad Passions" series. It's the story of Clare, Duchess of Duncliffe, stepmother to the heroine Mary from the second book "The Dark Lady".
When we met Clare in "The Dark Lady" she was a very young bride set to marry the evil Duke of Duncliffe. And by evil I mean, he's suspected of killing his wife (he did) and then institutionalized his own daughter for witnessing the crime. Right? Book #2.5 in Máire Claremont’s dark and dramatic Mad Passions series, featuring vulnerable gentlewomen tyrannized by cruel and manipulative men, only to rise up strong and survive in the face of all odds.
Máire Claremont is a wonderful new voice to the historical romance genre with her strong debut last year, The Dark Lady, and the first book in her Mad Passions series. Claremont’s books remind me a lot of the works of Lorraine Heath, and not just because both set their stories firmly in the Vict ...more

I didn't realize I had missed this novella & had to remedy this situation! This was about the very young widow of the heroine's father in Lady in Red, with her hero being the man who helped save the heroine in The Dark Lady. Clare thinks she is completely closed off to ever being with a man, due to the abuse she had suffered, most recently in her marriage to a horrible older man. Byron was ready to settle down, but was completely surprised by his instant attraction to Clare. He breaks her down g

Clare, Duchess of Duncliffe has really had a hard life. After a short but abusive marriage to a much older man she is now a 25 year old widow. She is dedicating her life to helping women who have found themselves in similar positions. By doing this she has made a few enemies and has been receiving threatening letters.
Her step daughter's husband has enlisted the help of Lord Byron Cartwright, the Earl of Wyndham. He is to protect her and find out the source of the threats.

Novella: Clare is Mary's stepmother (from the previous book) and lived with the abuse from the Duke of several years. She is now working to help other women in the same situation, beaten by their husbands, brothers, etc. When her life is threatened unless she stops, Mary and her husband, the Duke of Fairleigh ask their friend Byron, Lord Wyndham to help discover who is behind the threat. As they end up hiding out, along together, two lost souls find happiness with each other.

I hate to say it but this was disappointing. I've been wanting to read this series for awhile and I'm on the fence now.
I wanted to give this 1 star but gave it 2 because I really did like the plot. I know this is a novella but it was rushed and had no substance. I think it would have been better off as a novel then the story could have the time it needed to become more developed. ...more

This novella was a quick read about Clare (Mary's stepmother) and Lord Byron. When Clare is threatened, Mary and Edward ask their friend Lord Byron to help protect her. While Byron hides Clare away, they each spark something in each other.

Short, as novellas are, but sweet. I wish there could have been more information about Byron. He was enticing in a calm way. I'm happy for Clare to get her HEA. Makes me want to go back and re-read the series again.

I liked this book. I actually thought it was better than the previous books, even though this was just a novella. The relationships didn't seem as cheesey as in the others (especially the 2nd book), and the characters were interesting.

Rounded up to 4 because I don't often like novellas but this one was enjoyable and rather well done. Hard to get much character development in 150 pages but both individuals felt likable and real (enough) to me and I enjoyed their story.

Not a huge fan of novella because everything happens way too fast to be believable. Case in point here.

Loved this addition to the series, wish it could have been full length...really liked the h/h. This is Mary's step-mother's HEA and if anyone deserved one...she did.

“I am saying that there are things more wondrous in this world, more full of magic than we could ever imagine. And I, for one, despite the terrible things I have seen or perhaps because of them, choose to believe in them. If my thinking means I can have feelings for you after twelve hours of acquaintance, then yes, I am a romantic, Clare, and I am not afraid to admit it.”
