Τον Οκτώβρη του 1984, η Γαλλία συγκλονίζεται από μια υπόθεση που ακόμη ως σήμερα είναι γνωστή ως "η υπόθεση του μικρού Γκρεγκορί": ένα τετράχρονο αγοράκι βρίσκεται πνιγμένο και δεμένο χειροπόδαρα σε κάποιο ποτάμι, σ' ένα μικρό χωριό. Δεν φέρει σημάδια βίας ούτε κακοποίησης. Οι ενδείξεις οδηγούν στο συμπέρασμα πως ο θύτης ήταν πρόσωπο οικείο στο παιδί. Ποιο πρόσωπο όμως ακριβώς; Σε μια τόσο μικρή και κλειστή κοινωνία, όλοι γνωρίζονται μεταξύ τους και όλοι είναι πιθανοί ένοχοι, με πρώτους τους ίδιους τους συγγενείς του παιδιού. Οι έρευνες ξεκινούν, η υπόθεση παίρνει τεράστιες διαστάσεις, τα μέσα μαζικής ενημέρωσης καραδοκούν, την εκμεταλλεύονται όσο γίνεται περισσότερο, η δικαιοσύνη αποδεικνύει τις αδυναμίες της και η κοινή γνώμη διψά για έναν ένοχο.

Χρησιμοποιώντας μια εναλλακτική αφήγηση, άλλοτε ουδέτερη, σχεδόν δημοσιογραφικού χαρακτήρα σε ό,τι αφορά την εξιστόρηση των γεγονότων, και άλλοτε σπαρακτική, σε πρώτο πρόσωπο, ο Φιλίπ Μπεσόν σκιαγραφεί το ζοφερό μικρόκοσμο μιας επαρχίας με όλα τα τυπικά χαρακτηριστικά που συναντά κανείς απανταχού σε παρόμοιες κοινωνίες: χαμηλό βιοτικό και μορφωτικό επίπεδο, εμπάθεια, θρασυδειλία, μικροψυχία, μνησικακία, απωθημένα, δίψα για εκδίκηση. Χαρακτηριστικά "ανθρώπινα", τα οποία πολύ συχνά φαίνεται ότι βρίσκουν για εξιλαστήριο θύμα τους την ίδια την αθωότητα.

About the author

In 1999, Besson, who was a jurist at that time, was inspired to write his first novel, In the Absence of Men, while reading some accounts of ex-servicemen of the First World War. The novel won the Emmanuel-Roblès prize.

L'Arrière-saison, published in 2002, won the Grand Prix RTL-Lire 2003. Un garçon d'Italie was nominated for the Goncourt and the Médicis prizes.

Seeing that his works aroused so much interest, Philippe Besson then decided to dedicate himself exclusively to his writing.

το ''παιδί του οκτώβρη'' είναι το χρονικό της δολοφονίας του τετράχρονου γκρεγκορί τον οκτώβρη του 1984 καθώς και όσων ακολούθησαν. έρευνες, στοχοποιήσεις, πεινασμένα μίντια, οικογενειακές έχθρες και δικαστικές διαμάχες περιγράφονται με δημοσιογραφικό ύφος από τον αφηγητή, με την μητέρα του μικρού παιδιού να διακόπτει την αφήγηση με τις δικές της εξομολογήσεις.
η αλήθεια είναι ότι δεν πήρα αυτά που περίμενα από το συγκεκριμένο βιβλίο που μοιάζει περισσότερο με ρεπορτάζ περιοδικού παρά με αστυνομική λογοτεχνία. νομίζω ότι το μεγαλύτερο μειονέκτημα του βιβλίου είναι ότι αντλεί όλη την τραγικότητα και το δράμα από τα αληθινά γεγονότα και όχι από τη γραφή του συγγραφέα.

Ο Φιλιπ Μπεσον παρουσιάζει διακριτικά την δολοφονία ενος 4χρονου κ τον δικαστικό αγώνα, τις κατηγορίες που υπεστη η οικογενεια κ την τελική έκβαση. 4 αστερια για την προσεγγιση ενος ευαισθητου ζητηματος. Ωστοσο, δεν θα μπορουσα να το θεωρησω λογοτεχνημα μια κ λειπουν αρκετές λογοτεχνικες φορμουλες.

Après avoir été déçue par mon précédent Besson, j'appréhendais un peu de me lancer dans L'enfant d'octobre mais ce fut une bonne lecture. L'auteur romance l'affaire judiciaire du petit Villemin qui a eu lieu dans les années 80 et m'a permis d'en apprendre plus sur un fait divers qui a pas mal secoué l'actualité. Un énième crime irrésolu qui nous laisse un sentiment d'impuissance désagréable.

On retrouve dans ce livre l'écriture fluide de Philippe Besson. Le thème de ce livre changé profondément de ceux d'habitude abordés par cet auteur mais le double point de vue (celui du narrateur qui évoque l'affaire de l'extérieur et celui romancé de la mère du petit Gregory)est très intéressant. Il permet de prendre de la distance puis de se retrouver plongé au coeur du drame.

Lu très rapidement, c'est un livre court. On n'y apprend rien, c'est un résumé avec de jolies phrases, entrecoupé de déclarations de Christine Villemin. Ca fait cher pour 14,90€ !

L'auteur m'a habitué à mieux.
Je n'ai décelé aucune nuance littéraire sur le plan de l'écriture pas plus que sur l'histoire elle-même.

It's the first time that I've ever read something written by Philippe Besson and I'm totally satisfied about this choice. It was a thrilling read; a heart-breaking story of a young boy whose killer perhaps won't ever be found due to wrong police turns.

It's not your typical narrative; the author adopts an objective point of view, and acts as an omnipotent narrator able to describe to the readership the emotions and feelings of all the characters involved in the persecution of Gregory's killer. Often, it felt like watching a movie-- another "Devil's Knot" for anyone aware of the case/movie.

Besson's delicate writing and his elaborated prose compose an enigmatic and appealing crime report/novel tracing the chronicles of Gregory's murder. Perhaps the only drawback is exactly this report-like narrative, which triggers the author's deatachment from the main events. However, his amazing tecnhique of woving a touching and perplexing drama adopting a movie's flexibility and quality, surely pleases the most strict judge.
